updateish

A long time since I was on here. Tried a few weeks ago but couldn't login for some reason.

Whatever.

The basic update is that I am _finally_ done with the pain from the crash over 5 years ago. On the 13th of October I had the plate removed from my left leg. I was originally starting to plan this before the pandemic.

About 3? years ago I visited a Sports Orthopedist. His primary reaction, after getting history and seeing the x-ray was "What is that still doing in there". At which point the plans started.

Fast forward to this year. Surgery done. I was originally scheduled to be one of the first that day. Ended up being the last. And good thing too. There was extra work needed to be done to get the plate out.

At the top, as the Doctor was removing a bolt the head snapped. So he had to break off the top of the plate.
At the bottom...It turns out that the bottom most bolt had broken, probably fairly early. So the doctor had to cut a divot in the tibia deep enough to grab the shaft of the bolt for removal.

Fast forward 2 days. On the first night I took one high-test pain killer. The discharge instructions read 'using crutches or walker 100% weight on the leg as pain allows." The interesting thing is - there was no pain. I discount the pain from the incisions, and the different bone pain from the divot. But the pain that I was dealing with since the crash was GONE! I behaved myself and used my crutches for a few days. But was on my cane after that until the follow-up visit.

I no longer limp, and can even hop onto the left leg without any discomfort whatsoever. I still 'flop' my left foot as it's had 5 years of not working properly, and some pain in the right as it's learning how to _not_ support a bad gait. I expect that will all go away shortly.

I have a vintage dance next weekend, and I am so looking forward to dancing again. Next will be a visit to Glen Echo to try Lindy.

politics

I'll finally make this crystal clear without naming candidates.

I Hate, Don't Care, and am Ambivalent about three of the candidates.
I Love, Pull For, and Want three candidates.

I will fight tooth and nail to prevent one of my bottom three from becoming the Democratic candidate.
I will fight for my three candidates.

HOWEVER I will fully support WHOEVER is finally selected to run against the fascist currently living in Mar-A-Lago (North and South). Even while I need to hold my nose.

There are no unicorns. Stop looking.

Odd that I remember remebering a dream a few days ago, and I still remember last nights dream, which featured Cirque, a low mounted spot chair, an oversize microphone, being there for a q2q and a clueless director.

biking

Thanks to a co-worker I now have a very-Very-VERY reflective vest. So with the afternoon temperatures expected to be in the 50s this afternoon I biked in. Which I have raised my standards by lowering a number. The coldest start temperature before today was, I think 38. Today it was 31. And I was comfortable.

But I want more lights.

Interesting. And telling.

My mother just called me after, I presume, seeing A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. She told me that he is very much responsible for helping me become (somewhat) of a mench. As I was 'a hellion' until I started watching him.

hmmm...
After well over two years of pain and complaining I finally visited The Good Feet Store in Rockville. My hopes were low when the website and everything clearly visible was pushing full insoles. They focus - fairly well it seems - on using decent orthotics to correct flat feet and other issues. However, they actually did have medical grade (as opposed to cvs grade) heel lifts.

I have now spent a week with these in the two pairs of shoes that I swap regularly, and have noticed a dramatic difference in the pain in my legs and hips that stem from the shorter leg.
At least for our being a "lawfully wedded" couple. :)

Thirteen years and two days ago giraffeaholic came to chuppah.

And Thirteen years and nine days ago we both had our first marriage.

On our way to following our parents' examples.
The individual acts were wonderful. Although one didn't belong in the story, and another didn't belong in the story.

Which leads me to the stor. Yes, the y is missing, because the story didn't finish. The muse character, who is featured in ads, didn't work well, as she was not as active as the story led towards.

So a first. A show where I do not have any great urge to see it again.
[personal profile] leiacat responded with: Mountains, spiders, herbal teas.

Mountains: I'm a biker so love looking at. Hate (biking up). Love (riding down).

Spiders: drive me crazy as daughter was inculated (yes DW, it's a word) with a fear of them.

Herbal teas: Should not have the second word added. These infusions are lovely in their place, but as they generally contain no 'tea' are not such. :)
I _think_ that M.R. was up at 2ish am because of a spider. I curse the person (and I am fairly certain who this is) who led M.R. to this phobia.
