A long time since I was on here. Tried a few weeks ago but couldn't login for some reason.
Whatever.
The basic update is that I am _finally_ done with the pain from the crash over 5 years ago. On the 13th of October I had the plate removed from my left leg. I was originally starting to plan this before the pandemic.
About 3? years ago I visited a Sports Orthopedist. His primary reaction, after getting history and seeing the x-ray was "What is that still doing in there". At which point the plans started.
Fast forward to this year. Surgery done. I was originally scheduled to be one of the first that day. Ended up being the last. And good thing too. There was extra work needed to be done to get the plate out.
At the top, as the Doctor was removing a bolt the head snapped. So he had to break off the top of the plate.
At the bottom...It turns out that the bottom most bolt had broken, probably fairly early. So the doctor had to cut a divot in the tibia deep enough to grab the shaft of the bolt for removal.
Fast forward 2 days. On the first night I took one high-test pain killer. The discharge instructions read 'using crutches or walker 100% weight on the leg as pain allows." The interesting thing is - there was no pain. I discount the pain from the incisions, and the different bone pain from the divot. But the pain that I was dealing with since the crash was GONE! I behaved myself and used my crutches for a few days. But was on my cane after that until the follow-up visit.
I no longer limp, and can even hop onto the left leg without any discomfort whatsoever. I still 'flop' my left foot as it's had 5 years of not working properly, and some pain in the right as it's learning how to _not_ support a bad gait. I expect that will all go away shortly.
I have a vintage dance next weekend, and I am so looking forward to dancing again. Next will be a visit to Glen Echo to try Lindy.
Whatever.
