Her first blankie

To celebrate and in anticipation of our new little girl I spent most of yesterday making her a blanket.  I found a pattern for an heirloom cut chenille baby blanket from a friends fb post linked to this blog post from tipjunkie (thanks Bree, and I want to see pics of your blanket when you make it.)

aproximatly 7 hours and one really numb thumb (from cutting) later here it is!

I’m really happy with how it turned out and I think she will love it too.

New baby and Graham

I just realized I’m not sure I even posted about being pregnant on the blog- so here I am 19 weeks along- almost half way there and we also just found out it’s a girl!  Hannah is thrilled to be having a sister and Graham having a more limited understanding of the details of it all is indifferent.  He does like to kiss my belly goodnight before we go to bed- it’s very cute, and we talk about the baby in mommy’s tummy.  He is my ball boy lately, he loves balls.  Yesterday before dinner he and I spent about a half hour tossing the ball into the little hoop in the back yard.  He came to me holding the ball saying ‘hoop, hoop’ and whines until I come out to play with him.  I snapped a couple pictures of him while we were out there.

December in February

I was recently scolded by my much more pregnant than I sister for not keeping up with blogging (just kidding Chels)- her ‘nesting’ has included being a diligent scrapbooker, something I need to pick up on.  So here is a little of December… even though it’s February, oh well. haircut & halloween

Time again has gotten away from me.  Really I’d have to say we’ve just been having too much fun enjoying our ordinary yet wonderful life.  As to what we are up to: thanksgiving is approaching fast & to celebrate we remind ourselves of our blessings with a ‘give thanks’ jar, Hannah has been busy circling every toy in the target toy ad for Christmas, Graham’s favorite word is ‘uh-oh’ which he says all the time, yesterday he started blowing his nose by himself- so cute to me as his mother.  Yes I enjoy the simple accomplishments in life.

Lorne (with my consent) gave Graham a haircut, I loved his whispy long hair and cute curls but it was time for a haircut… afterwards I felt like I was looking at a different kid.  It makes him look so grown up now.

And here’s a bit of our Halloween this year- cousins party, and for the Ward party Lorne decided he wanted to dress up last minute- so I pulled out an old Alice in Wonderland costume I had and Lorne became the White Rabbit.  The kids were ‘a princess and a frog’ (I even bought the princess Tiana costume for Hannah- which she refused to wear ‘too itchy’,  so we returned it, and instead she decided on Jasmine- which we scored on sale at the disney store for half price.)

The scrapbook pages are my attempt to stay on top of book making… yes it’s November I know, better late than never, right.

Pumpkin time…

Two pumpkin patch field trips in two days…

there were hay rides, horses, chickens, a pig, a llama, a turkey, scarecrows, pumpkins, and gourds everywhere- Graham was in ball heaven, he loves balls and ran around the whole time picking up pumpkins yelling ‘ball’ and trying to throw them.

Graham also loved the scarecrow, he was really fascinated with it.

Here’s my classic reality shot, Hannah is doing some strange pose with her head and a fake smile while Graham is happily eating a piece of hay and flashing his squinty eye grin.

I love my kids, they are so fun!

Happy birthday hannah!

My little girl is four years old today, I can hardly believe it, where has the time gone and how did my baby get so big!  Hannah is my snuggler, my helper, a proud big sister, loves to have special time with daddy, loves to play board games, craft, cut and draw, share with Graham, sometimes bossy and sassy but also very sweet, she is miss long legs and is growing so tall, she loves the beach, loves playing with her cousins, playing dress up at Grammy’s, helping me in the kitchen, and was so excited for her birthday to come she could barely sleep last night.  I love you my Hannah girl, happy birthday!

(no birthday pic yet, that will come tonight at Grammy’s house)- earlier this month I let Hannah try on my wedding dress, she was in heaven and thought it was so fun pretending to be a bride.

Family pictures

I’ve been trying to get family pictures done for about 6 months (thank goodness the kids clothes still fit), but there were always scheduling conflicts, runny noses, and bumps and bruises that seemed to deter my plans.  Finally a week and a half ago we took pictures.  My talented sister Christal did a wonderful job, I am so happy with my pictures and already have them hanging up in living room.  She is really great with kids, if anyone is in need of pictures here’s her website www.christalphotography.com

happy birthday Graham!

I’m about a month late, but it’s taken me that long to transfer my pictures from the camera to the computer.  Life is full and busy, sometimes stressful (thanks to my strong willed 3 year old) and other times happy and peaceful.  I am grateful for it all and glad home and healthy.  Last year at this time I was just getting out of the hospital and recovering from a painful infection, childbirth, surgery and adjusting to a new baby- it’s overwhelming to think about… Today I can’t believe it’s been a year already and my sweet baby is now a walking, talking, laughing, smiling, happy little one year old!  We love Graham so much and had a fun little party to celebrate (monkey style), here are a few pictures.

Image

I made monkey cupcakes, a fun birthday banner (versatile for everyone’s parties, just added Grahams photos month by month to personalize it), made fruit loop necklaces, played toss the monkey bean bag to the bananas (I made the bean bags, also used as part of the party favors, and the banana mat is made out of felt), ate lunch,  made a mess with cupcakes, opened presents, and just spent time visiting with family.

Gardening update: Our first sunflower bloomed this last week, and they are about to grow over the wall into the neighbors pool.

that’s all for now, I’ve got to get Graham down for a nap, get going on my ‘Insanity’ workout (more to come on that later), and then off to swimming lessons.

Baby Bassinets

I recently found this really easy tutorial for a cute little fabric baby bassinet (found here) and have made a few for Hannah to play with and some to give away as gifts- I don’t consider myself more than an amateur seamstress but I love it when something turns out well.  My older sisters had similar fabric baby bassinets when we were little so making them was also a little nostalgic for me too.

this one is my favorite.

Last weekend we went to the temple, I stayed outside with the kids while Lorne went in with the youth (I’d gone down early for the Stake Relief Society temple day)- it was fun but longer than expected so I tried to keep busy finding things to do with the kids, we ended up in the car part of the time listening to ‘surf music’ as Hannah calls it (Beach boys) in attempts to get out the the howling wind.

I love this one of Hannah pushing Graham on the swing- it’s so fun to see them play together, I love my kids!

Mother’s day gifts-

Image(not the bag- I already had that- the flowers)

These are my new favorite thing to craft- felt flowers with fabric covered buttons.  They are truely addicting for me to make… let’s just say it’s my creative release.  I wore one to church yesterday on my blouse and have one pinned to my bag.  So easy and fun to make, check it out here.  And of course everyone recieved one for mother’s day (p.s. Chelsea yours is in the mail).

And today we have been busy gardening- sort of, really I’ve been de-grassing.  I want more garden space and the front yard gets the best sun so with the ok from my awesome landlords (thanks mom and dad) I started riping out the grass.  It is dirty, hard work but will be worth is to have the space for my yummy veggies and fruit to grow.

Here we go…

Image

about half way there, starting to get blisters on my hands, even with gloves.  I will have to continue tonight when Lorne gets home, it was a challenge to do at all with my little helper getting in the dirt with me.

The first part of the garden has really taken off (I have a secret, I fertilized with worm poo, it’s like black gold for plants and the best part was it was free.  Hannah and I harvested it from our worm bin a couple weeks ago- she loves worms) here are some of the tomatoes and my little herb pot.
