i did a wip wednesday ask game over on tumblr yesterday for the first time in ages and ahhh it felt so good to get some asks and have an excuse to write just a couple sentences here and there. it's a lot of fun and i really should do it more often.

idk what it is, but i've been on a roll with writing recently? like, i started out this year strong, then petered out towards the end of january which is what tends to happen when i hype myself up with "i'm gonna start a writing habit! for real this time!!" but now i'm getting back into it and... a lot is happening?? it's a little baffling. it's not every day or anything, but it's regular, and i'm pretty proud of it. might even finish some of these WIPs i've been picking away at for ages

i think the main thing for me is i have trouble getting started. if something pushes me into writing a sentence or two, i can usually then ride a wave and get at least a few hundred words down. it's that initial couple sentences that are the hardest. not because of blank pages--most of the time i'm trying to add words onto a project--but because i'll just sit here like "i should write. i want to write. why am i not writing??"

i'm thinking it must be an adhd thing. it feels like an adhd thing.

in any case, i'm making reminders for myself now that a.) pressure to do things every day often makes my brain not want to do them, b.) i need to look into ways to get over that initial jump in because the water is, actually, fine and i quite enjoy swimming.

that metaphor may have gotten away from me. ah, well.
