New ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Movie in the Works with Screenwriter Pete Chiarelli (Exclusive)

Once upon a time, there was a TV show about three girls who went to the police academy and then became private investigators. And then Sony Pictures made a movie, or three, about them.

And now, Sony is reviving that franchise.

The studio is developing a new feature version of Charlie’s Angels, the female-fronted action and crime adventure franchise, hiring Pete Chiarelli, the known for the Ryan Reynolds-Sandra Bullock romantic comedy The Proposal as well as the adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, to pen the script.

It is unclear who is producing the new version although one source said Drew Barrymore and her Flower Films banner, which was responsible for the first big-screen takes at the turn of the century, are back for this new version.

Sony had no comment.

Netflix has acquired the U.S. rights to the forthcoming “Lord of the Flies” series from “Adolescence” co-creator Jack Thorne.

Sony Pictures Television announced the deal on Friday as “Lord of the Flies” prepares for its premiere at Berlin Film Festival. In addition to the U.S. sale to Netflix, the series — which launched on the BBC in the U.K. Feb. 8 — has sold in territories across Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Stephen Amell Cast As Hobie In Fox’s ‘Baywatch’ Reboot

Stephen Amell is the first star to be cast in Matt Nix’s Baywatch reboot for Fox. He will play the series regular role of Hobie Buchannon, a character from the original series.

The wild child Hobie Buchannon is now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch (played in the Og series by David Hasselhoff). Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started,” shared Nix, executive producer and showrunner of Baywatch.

‘One Battle After Another,’ ‘Frankenstein’ Top Winners at Costume Designers Guild Awards

As awards season chugs along, it was the Costume Designers Guild’s turn on Thursday, announcing the winners across film, television, short form costume design and costume illustration.

The 2026 Costume Designers Guild Awards, held at The Ebell of Los Angeles, saw prizes handed out to the costume designers behind One Battle After Another, Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good, while on the TV side, awards went to The Studio, Palm Royale and Andor.

The evening was hosted by actress Courtney Hope, with a number of special honors also awarded: the Career Achievement Award to veteran costume designer Michelle Cole, the Distinguished Collaborator Award to James Cameron, the Spotlight Award to Kate Hudson and the Vanguard Spotlight Award to Teyana Taylor.

Taylor, who has stunned on red carpets throughout awards season, noted in her speech, “I love building looks from the ground up — pulling references, blending eras, mixing masculine with feminine energy and street couture.
