I specialize in the areas of International Relations, International Security, Critical Security Studies, conflict management and ‘post-conflict’ peacebuilding, necropolitics and everyday forms of violence, foreign policy analysis, transitional justice, the international politics of the Global South (with a focus on Africa, the Middle East and South Asia), and critical intelligence studies. Having lived and worked in various parts of the world, I bring a global, critical, decolonial and feminist perspective to my research and teaching.
My research has been published, including the co-authored book, Militias and the Challenges of Post-Conflict Peace: Silencing the Guns. I have published in the areas of International Security and Critical Security Studies.
I have extensive research experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Nigeria, Jordan, Egypt, Myanmar, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda, and international development work experience in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Bangladesh, India and Nepal. I have previously taught at various universities in Canada and around the world, including at the LSE, London Metropolitan University, American University in Cairo, McMaster University, Concordia University, York University and St. Francis Xavier University. I have also worked as a Senior Policy Advisor (Intelligence Policy) with Public Safety Canada.
