This is a monument to Russel Alger. He was governor of Michigan, President McKinley's Secretary of War, and a U.S. Senator. His best achievement, however, was founding the Old Newsboys Association that provides winter clothing for poor children.

I took the photos shortly after the sculpture had been cleaned. I like it better when the patina's had time to age a little.
Squirrels look so bold, but they scamper fast enough if I take a step forward.
