My Qualifications – How and Why I Teach

Early in my life I worked on completing my PhD in computer science so I could become a professor. I wasn’t interested in the research aspect of becoming a professor. Publish or perish held no appeal for me.

What I was excited about was the chance to teach. To stand up in front of a class room and help people learn and grown.

I love teaching.

I love the transformation that happens when a student realizes they can and do understand something.

While I didn’t quite jump through enough hoops for my PhD, I did gain some wonderful experience as a university lecturer through those years.

I’m now very happily teaching art and art business workshops. I have been offering both in person and online learning opportunities since 2011.

In 2014 I became a Co-Active® trained life coach and received my Certified Professional Co-Active Coach® (CPCC) in 2015 as a way to supplement the content of my courses..

The addition of coaching skills into my teaching curriculum allows my students to make meaningful, significant and lasting life changes in both their studio practices and in their lives.

My Intention

I have created at least 9000 textile paintings and exhibited and sold over 700 of them in the past 15 years, using the techniques, exercises, business practices and studio methodology I teach in my workshops.

In addition to art concepts and techniques, I dip into mindset and motivation topics during my workshops.

Although we focus on creating art, I believe in teaching to the whole artist, not just the paint brush or sewing machine.

My intention is to provide students with the vocabulary and tools they will need to go back to their studios with their own ideas and move forward with confidence on their own.

You can see samples of former students work and read their thoughts on my workshops on my alumni directory.

For my complete artist bio and resume see artist website lisacall.com.

I’ve compiled a list of publications, where you can read and learn about my techniques and mindsets for those times when an interactive workshop isn’t a good fit for you at this time.

I look forward to working with you!

“What I found in Lisa’s course was so far beyond my expectations that I can only say it has truly changed my life and the way I approach my art.

She provided me with information that lead me to evaluate and change how I manage my studio time, my design process and in some ways my life.

I now look forward to spending time in my studio each evening, No more creative slump.
