The man behind your favorite 3D printsMaKim's path to becoming one of MakerWorld’s most renowned creators Rotating marble run tower. A remote water turret. A life-size LED Minecraft sword. Or the unbelievable Relic Rush board game - which you have to print for two weeks straight (but it’s absolutely worth it). Yes, you probably recognize them all. And you likely recognize the name as well - MaKim, the creator behind these incredible designs. But do you really know him? Did you know that this seemingly unassuming designer started 3D printing and learned how to design just… 1.5 years ago? For years, 3D printing belonged to people who took pride in dialing in the perfect first layer. On RepRap forums, Facebook, and Reddit, there were even groups called “first layer porn,” where users shared photos and videos of flawlessly laid lines - one after another. Then Bambu Lab arrived, and suddenly that stopped making sense… the first layer was always perfect anyway. And with Bambu Lab came a new generation of users - people who just design and print things. MaKim - or rather Matthew Kimbrough, his real name - is one of them. He came from outside the traditional “3D printing nerd” community. He approached it with a designer’s mindset, a graphic artist’s methodology, and the attitude of someone who wants to create something cool - not someone trying to master the technology purely for its own sake. And he started making things the old guard simply didn’t… Read his remarkable story and discover the behind-the-scenes journey of his most iconic projects: https://blog.bambulab.com/design-first-technology-second-makims-path-to-becoming-one-of-makerworlds-top-creators/
