Well -- to whoever may be reading this, we've gone an entire month now with no activity. I think it's safe to say that Mallow Hallow is no long of interest to anyone. I'm very happy to have what little time I spent here with all of you. I had some great threads with people, and I hope the rest of you did as well. I'm sorry I wasn't able to keep the community alive -- my attempts at plot seemed to be too little, too late, it appears. And I know I myself wasn't exactly a paragon of activity in the end months. All I can say is that I was new to the job, and maybe my ambitions were bigger than my abilities. I did try, but sometimes, that's just not enough.

Sail, I did try to get in contact you a few times at first. If you think you can do something with the community, you're more than welcome to. Me? I'm off.

Thank you all for playing. Have fun out there.

All right, folks. AC/HMD for October has ended -- and if I was going strictly by that, we'd be down to seven characters who both replied and made AC. As it is, we are as of today at a grand total of fourteen characters currently in this game. The question has become, where do we go from here?

The fact of the matter is, Mallow Hallow was never really a large game, but recently it has become an tiny one, with not a lot to show in way of activity. We mods have tried to drum up some interest, but very little appears to have happened. So we leave the question up to you: What do you want to do about Mallow Hallow? Shall we continue on as more of a musebox/dressing room setting? Are there any further changes you think we can make to encourage the game to grow again? Should we just continue on as we are for now and see if things improve in the coming month? Please respond with what you think. It would be much appreciated.

Standard procedure:

✦ Reply to this entry with the characters you play. (If you would prefer a private space to receive feedback, you may link to your personal HMD and request comments to be forwarded there.) Each character must have at least one link showing they've met the activity requirement:

  • one post in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs, or
  • one comment thread of ten responses/ten comments overall in either or across both communities.

✦ Impart feedback to other players and their characterization, etc.

✦ Please be courteous to your fellow players and respect their wishes if they've linked a personal HMD.
✦ Anonymity and IP logging have both been enabled in order to prevent the abuse of the former.
✦ This HMD is mandatory and acts as the activity check for the game. We do not allow players to skirt past without commenting to the HMD. A danger list (to be the eject list within three days time) will be posted after the activity check's closure.
✦ The deadline for commenting to the HMD is October 31st, 11:59 PM EST.

I'm sorry, y'all. Mallow has been hitting the backburner quite a bit for me, lately, and it really didn't keep my attention. Many apologies to my new CR. I was looking forward to having fun with a blind Balfour, but it's not fair to anyone for me to just sit on a character, no matter how obscure.

Thank you all for the lovely time, but it is time for me to go.

So long, and thanks for all the fish~

So... There's a lot behind this, but I'm just... not up to re-saying everything all over again.

Basically... There's nothing left for me here and as much as I want to hang onto this game, I really can't anymore. Everyone has been great and I've really enjoyed my time here, but unfortunately it's time for my remaining muses to go home.

Thank you for everything and I really hope Mallow goes on because it's a lovely game.

Rapunzel, Yuuki, and Kimiko are going home.

Hello! I'm Sami, and I was here a whiiiiile ago with two OCs: Sephira and Fattycakes. I'm not sure anyone remembers them, but I'm back. This time, I'm bringing MiRa, a combat android from a Sentai-styled universe with a chip on her shoulder. Expect lots of crabbing about being a robot. I'm pretty excited about this event you guys have going on here- I'm hoping for a few shadow monsters for MiRa to fight, or, better yet, some actual character shadows (those are just a boatload of fun). Well, I look forward to playing with you all!

Fog event!

All right, everyone, we've got an event for you, to run through all of October! This one's a bit different from the ones we've had before. You see, this doesn't take place across all the districts. You remember that one district that disappeared, somehow? It should be there between Mallowhallow and Whitewood, except there's nothing here, almost like nothing ever was there?

No? It's okay, not everyone does. But they'll have reason to notice it now.

You see, it's back on the map. For the two people anyone who's been paying attention, it seems that overnight, the place has become a little less empty, and a lot more physically present: it's now the size of another district again, and covered in a very thick fog.

Orion and Tronctor get to explore it first, to see what's returned from wherever it wasn't, and then they'll send out a post on the network. After that, it's up to your characters to disobey or fail to hear about it in the first place and head in.

About that fog? It's not normal. It fools with technology's ability to scan it and scan through it, so any tricorders are next to useless in it. It's so thick, you have a ton of difficulty seeing more than about ten feet in front of you. What could that shape be, coming out of the fog? What is the scenery like?

Those sorts of questions are ones that only your characters can answer... except, it isn't likely to be something they'll be able to deliberately answer. (We think this post may help to explain this, and if anyone has questions about what's going on here, they're welcome to ask, here in this post!) People walking into a fresh area in the fog will have the most impact on that area, and otherwise are able to see places others' minds have left behind. It isn't just possible, but likely, that they'll come across shadow-things in the fog, and be able to interact with whatever creature or person it may be.

Please note that shadows are not actually that person or thing. They simply conform to expectations about what people perceive them to be. So while someone may run into their arch-nemesis, said arch-nemesis won't actually be an NPC in the sense that they're plotting behind the scenes; it takes the other characters being physically around them, to dictate their behavior and speech, puppeting them without realizing it.

However, this doesn't mean that a shadow can't gain a mind and become an entity of its own. It's possible that you might come across a [personal profile] notsoscaryshadow in the fog world at some point. And wouldn't you know it (and most people wouldn't, so it's okay, really!) there's been a shadow among you this whole time here in Mallow Hallow: Doll. That's right, [personal profile] hollowbutnotempty is a shadow-creature. Doll originated in a foggy dimension like this lost district has become, and was a product of others' minds, now a product of its own. Take what Doll says about things with a grain of salt, however: simply being a denizen of someplace doesn't mean you fully (or even mostly) understand everything about it. (If it did, all of us muns would be experts on all Earth subjects already, right?)

The fog event will begin Wednesday, October 2nd, and end Saturday, November 9th. And just a reminder: ICly, it's still about mid-summer.

There's a bonus to this big event, besides perhaps turning your character's own expectations against them: the area is so unstable that toward the end of the event, say about the last week of October and the first week of November, (Oct 27th to November 9th) it's entirely possible for other people's characters to get sucked into Mallow Hallow from wherever they were before.

You read it correctly: the last part of this event is a 4th-wall affair! Let all your friends know! We'll be letting characters in who have their own journals: canon characters, OCs, and just about every shade of in-between. We'll put up a sign-up page when it gets closer to the date, to approve characters joining us for this; we ask that characters joining us for this event have a post in their journal, or a link in it to a page somewhere, which has info about that character. (After all, it's nice to know a bit about the character you're playing off of!)

This could be a good opportunity to invite your friends in to test the waters, or even just have a few good threads in a fun setting. Potential applicants are welcome to jump in for this; what better way to test the waters than to play in the game itself?

There's also an extra bonus to this event: potential boss fights! There will be enough shadow-energy and shadow-material built up by the end of October that larger, more powerful shadows may appear in the fog. If anyone's familiar with Persona 4, they'll understand what it means for a character to find their own Shadow in the fog, and if they're not, don't worry: we'll put up a post that covers that, closer to the time for it.

We hope you'll have a ton of fun with this, since we're certainly looking forward to it!

Remember, there is a quick reapp procedure for those who have missed two or less HMDs. The mod asks you to please comment to this entry to make sure these are not missed. Please comment also with any other questions/concerns regarding the list.

Also, please remember that from this month on, there is an activity requirement for the community. Currently, it is:

-->One post in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month
AND/OR
-->One comment thread of at least ten responses/ten comments overall in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month

As actual activity requirements are a new thing to the community, I'm keeping it low for the nonce to ease everyone in while still encouraging activity. As we all get used to it, the requirements may change. we'll see.

Finally, look for a post coming up about our slightly-more-than-a-month October/Halloween-style event!

I'm sorry. But I'm dropping Kurenai. And I shall be focusing on Moriko Kiryuu and Kaname Kuran. I'm having a hard time catching up with tags lately, and I need to limit my characters. I'm sorry.

I really had fun with her. I swear. But I want to focus on these two VK muses more... because I'm sacrificing their quality if I try to keep all the muses active. T_T

Justy, Victoria, I'm so sorry, but those tags I owe shall be dropped. But I hope we can hit it off with my two vampires instead. PM me at my plurk timmy_krys with your thoughts.

Hello all! The week is over, and we do indeed have a new additional mod! Send congratulations to 'Sail, who plays our local Doll ([personal profile] hollowbutnotempty), who will now be assisting me with modly things.

As for the looming Actual Activity Check, this is my plan:
-->One post in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month
AND/OR
-->One comment thread of at least ten responses/ten comments overall in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month

I'm starting out possibly a little low in the "comments" section simply because we haven't had a "real" activity check before, and ten might be easier for our playerbase to handle. It's late enough in September that I'm not going to require this to happen for this month, but with October looming, it might be a good idea to try and get in the habit. Suggestions are still welcome on AC requirements, however!

Hello it is I, the very non-manipulative vampire-loving, TIMMY!

So, if you check below on Terra's ooc-thread, Moriko Kiryuu is like a OC/AUish character. So mostly, its headcanon. But one thing is certain, she is the child of Zero Kiryuu and Yuuki Kiryuu. WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT!!! <3333

 Hey Mallowettes!

This is Terra here with yet another new muse. This time I bring you Kimiko Kuran from Vampire Knight. If you're wondering who that is, don't worry! Kimiko only appears in about... 3 panels in the last chapter of Vampire Knight. She technically never had an actual name to be honest. Timmy and I had to actually think of names, aside from Blithe and Tarei's help too.

Possible spoilers. View with discretion.
Kimiko is the daughter of Kaname & Yuuki Kuran. She has a sister (technically brother, but Timmy and I decided that it was a close match) that's the daughter of Zero Kiryuu & Yuuki Kuran. Because Kimiko is the daughter of Kaname & Yuuki, she's a Pureblood unlike her sister.

I'm ready to break some brains >B]

Activity has been lacking a bit around here as of late, and I'd like to do something to try and encourage people to post more. There have been some suggestions as to having an actual activity requirement for the game to encourage posting. I've considered this before, and my current feelings on an activity check for [community profile] mallowhallow are as follows:

-->One post in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month
AND/OR
-->One comment thread in either [community profile] mallowhallow or [community profile] mallow_logs a month

I figure something like this is easy to do, well-suited to our "one week IRL = two days IG" schedule, and still ensures that our current roster of characters would be doing things in-game. However, I'm open to comments and ideas! (Mainly about the comment thread -- should it be a specific length? Should it be longer if you don't have a post from your character in either main comm?) Any thoughts on activity requirements (even "I hate them, noooo") are welcome.

Thank you for your assistance!

Based on the response to the "End of August AC/HMD & Discussion" post, I've decided it would be a good idea to revive the mod applications so that the game can have a second mod. After all, I can't be online all the time (as a recent bout of never-ending thunderstorm proved), and having someone else to help come up with event ideas and other additions/tweaks to the game would be very helpful.

So! We have the return of the form from our previous bout of mod applications:

If you have any interest in helping to mod the game, please fill that out in a comment below. All comments will be screened. Depending on response, I hope to have the second mod picked by the end of the week. Thank you for your assistance!

Nic here o/ And this is Calum. As the title states, he's the Cheshire Cat c: He has typical Cheshire powers, including invisibility and teleporting and shapeshifting-which he really only uses to turn into a cat whenever he feels like it. His other powers he really only uses in defensive ways or to bug people, otherwise he can't even fight his way out of a paper bag :|

His hobbies include, of course, bugging people, napping, flirting, and in general being a nuisance. His favorite thing? Is hats. If he sees a hat, he'll want it. He'll 'borrow' anyone's hats or anything that is hat like. He generally gives them back, though he does steal a lot, hats aren't on that list.

I think that's about it. I'm looking forward to playing him here :3

Remember, there is a reapp procedure to get you back into the game quickly should you miss one or two HMDs! After that you have to app again regularly.

I'd also like to open up this post to talk about directions we can take Mallow Hallow in and what can be done with the game. We recently had a great suggestion from one of the players about a possible Persona-world-based event that could work very well as a sort of Halloween-based event for the month of October. Any further thoughts on that would be nice. Or any thoughts on anything at all we can do to keep this game fresh and interesting. Things seem to have slowed down rather a lot lately (and I know people get busy and have other things that they need to attend to), and -- I'd just like to get people's thoughts.

I've had fun here, but my interest in the game has been waning over the past few months and I can't seem to get it back, so I don't want to character-squat. Thanks to all who threaded with Hubert here, and may Mallow Hallow live long and prosper!
