One of my [many] guilty pleasures is reading young adult fantasy/sci-fi novels. Things such as Twilight, which I read before the hype was so huge. When I was at Target yesterday, I had the urge to pick up something new, and so I grabbed Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and completely fell in love.
Vampires are the 'in' thing right now as far as YA novels seem to go, but this one gave me a healthy dose of the faerie realm which I really enjoy reading about as well.
Enter our heroine, Aislinn, a 17 year old girl who can see into the world of faeries. It's a gift she's had all of her life, a gift her grandmother also has. She's spent her entire life living by three cardinal rules:
1-> Don't stare at invisible faeries.
2-> Don't speak to invisible faeries.
3-> Don't ever attract their attention.
As most stories go, the rules are always broken, but in the case of Wicked Lovely, they don't come off as being done because our heroine is incompetent or full of superfluous faults.

All in all, I adored this book entirely too much. Enough that I'll most likely pick up the other two books in the series later today to pour over this weekend. It's been a while since I've had a book leave me smiling like this one did. It may not have been deep by any definition of the word, but the enjoyment was more than worth the light read.
Now I just want to go prance around and play in this little world. Silly stories making me all wibbly. @_@
The above was not meant as a book review, and it's hardly coherent as one. So pardon any spoilers above that may put you off.

There's something completely infuriating about people on Livejournal all but begging for paid accounts. I admit. I think I begged once when I saw so many people doing it way back when, but then I bucked up and bought my own account and realised that I'm the only one who can really ensure my paid account if it's really that important to me.
But it absolutely disgusts me when I see someone constantly whining about how little money they have, yet they're posting about going to this concert or that, getting a hotel for this con, costumes for this... yet in the next breath they're talking about selling off all this stuff because they have no money to eat. And then to see them be all "...does anyone feel inclined to buy me some paid LJ time?"
...
LJ is not a necessity. A paid account is definitely not a necessity. Is it nice to have? Well of course. I'd miss all my icons, or the ability to expand comments, and all that jazz if it suddenly went away. But could I live without it? Of course I could.
So stop begging for things that you don't need. Concentrate on making sure you have the things you actually need... like food... and then go for the frivolous.
Oi.

Baaaaaw. Might I repeat: baaaaaaaaaw.
Jessie gave her two week notice today. She's starting online classes at a local community college to get her Human Services degree. And while I'm all "HIP HIP HOORAY!" for her, I'm also seriously bummed because I've just really gotten to know her in the past few months and baaaaw. But I know where she lives. >D I hope/think/believe we'll be friends beyond work, go out for drinks, yadda yadda, but still, this majorly sucks.

Today has been one of those days that just makes me smile. Why, you ask? Well first of all, I found a good friend of mine from high school that I have been searching for, I kid you not, around six years for. He happened to 'thumbs up' a post from a friend of mine on Facebook, so I added him and lo and behold, he had been kind of looking for me. So this made me happy. This guy meant a lot to me in high school and helped me a lot through my parent's divorce, so to find him again has made me very happy.
Also! Hubby found Me & My Katamari at the game store today! You have no idea how pleased this makes me! I have been looking for/wanting this game for ages and finally got my paws on it. This was an awesome find and I can't wait to crack it open... well once my PSP is charged again, that is.
So yes. Post of happy and awesome. Now to go search for some RP.
