MANRS for Network Operators
Apply NowNetwork operators have a collective responsibility to ensure a globally robust and secure routing infrastructure. Your network’s safety depends on a routing infrastructure that weeds out bad actors and accidental misconfigurations that wreak havoc on the Internet. The more network operators work together, the fewer incidents there will be, and the less damage they can do.
The MANRS Network Operators Program defines the minimum steps network operators like Internet Service Providers should take to ensure the security and resilience of the Internet’s global routing system.
Actions
- Filtering. Ensure the correctness of your own announcements and those from your customers to adjacent networks
- Anti-spoofing. Enable source address validation for at least single-homed stub customer networks, their own end-users, and infrastructure
- Coordination. Maintain globally accessible, up-to-date contact information in common routing databases.
- Global information. Publish your data so others can validate
Implementation Guide
An Implementation Guide documents deployment of MANRS Actions and is targeted at stub networks and small providers. The document also assists in checking if the network setup is compliant with MANRS.
Testimonials
SUNET is committed to robust global routing polices and MANRS is one of the best initiatives so far to help out operators with this. We hope with our participation that more of the R&E sector will sign up and live up to the norms. We hope that in the future MANRS will be the standard, not the exception.
Network Architect, SUNETAdherence to MANRS is an important commitment that operators make back to the Internet community. Together we aim to remove the havens from which miscreants maintain the freedom and anonymity to attack our network and our customers.
Claranet GroupAs one of the leading FTTH providers in the Nordic countries, we at Altibox care a great deal about speed and capacity. And because we constantly strive to attain the safest and most reliable Internet service for our customers, we have adhered to MANRS in an effort to keep revitalizing our worldwide community while building greater trust between each other.
Senior Network Engineer, AltiboxColoClue strongly believes in making the internet better by implementing security features sooner rather than later. We've been doing strict filtering based on IRR data for a long time; when RPKI became a thing, we soon implemented that too. We believe that the objectives of MANRS perfectly align with the goals of ColoClue, so it only makes sense to join!
Since its beginnings, Fiber@Home has endeavored to keep up a safe and strong system, sending the most refreshed prescribed procedures and, as a Transit provider, dispersing them to its clients with the end goal to get from them a dedication of conveying these accepted procedures in their systems also. Clinging to MANRS activity fortifies this position.
Since its beginnings, RedIRIS has striven to maintain a secure and resilient network, deploying the most updated best practices and, as a National R&E Network, disseminating them to its customers in order to get from them a commitment of deploying these best practices in their networks as well. Adhering to MANRS initiative reinforces this position.
Good network routing practice is the fundamental requirement for trust between providers, and ultimately creates a safer and stronger internet for customers. KPN is committed to providing secure and trustworthy communications, and by joining partners in MANRS, we continue to improve security and resiliency for all.
Chief Information Security Officer, KPNWe believe it is our responsibility as a network operator to deliver a secure and robust Internet service to our customers, and to assure our peers that the trust that the Internet is built on is delivered through these MANRS initiatives. For us it is a mark of quality.
Project Manager, WarianHaving been introduced to MANRS through attendance at LINX 102 we could see that this was a great way for us to be able to benchmark ourselves against recognised best-practice. In addition we benefit from being part of a community of like-minded organisations looking to make the global Internet more resilient and secure.
Kevin Herbert, Operations DirectorConnecticut Education Network originated as a research & education network and now functions as a Tier 2 ISP for multiple industry verticals. Responsible safeguards on the signaling plane ensure we're not contributing to the spoofing/hijacking problem, and membership in MANRS reflect our commitment to making the Internet a better place for our members and their constituents.
Gigastream is firmly committed to the underlying principles of the MANRS initiative and supports the community's efforts to increase the security, stability and dependability of the Internet. Through our participation in the MANRS initiative we hope to promote these efforts and encourage others to join us in doing so.
Director, Gigastream plcInternet routing security is, unfortunately, one of the major vulnerabilities of the cyberspace. All network operators need to take actions to mitigate the routing security issue. MANRS principles will be an important component to improve global routing security. It is our obligation and honor to join MANRS.
