| I think this is a great article about the kinds of relationships we make. Also, the beginning of "Gloria" sounds a lot like the beginning of Dr. Demento's "Star Trekkin'" to me. | |

| Please go read this post: http://community.livejournal.com/blackfolk/7591317.htmlBecause of this post I was motivated to sign up for this registry. It was fast (about 15 minutes worth of medical history and emergency contact information) and free (if you click the link there you'll get a promo code and you'll get your kit at no cost). You just get the kit, swab the inside of your mouth, and send it back (postage paid envelope included). If you're in the US, I hope you'll do it too. Edit: if you're in Canada, you can do the same here. | |

| I don't like pizza much. Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm from Chicago and supposed to like the deep-dish, but really not-so-much (ask me about the hot dogs, though, they're the best, srsly). I'll eat it to be polite, or if it's what's for dinner, but generally find most pizza kinda "blech". But I think I've found my pizza delight. "Gourmet-style" thin-crust. I'm sodium-sensitive now, so it's a treat, but nothing makes me go "yuuuuummmmm" as much as some of the pizza I've discovered in the last year or two. These are my two favorite five-nom pizzas. Best grocery store pizza: Culinary Circle Ultra Thin Crust Garlic Chicken Alfredo Pizza. When I first discovered this, it was always in stock. But they must have gotten popular this year, and now sometimes there are only a few out on the shelf (probably doesn't help that I like to go midnight-grocery-shopping). I cheer when I see that, though, because I'm all "yeah, this stuff is the BEST". Very garlic, very yum, but need a well-preheated oven and to cook it directly on the oven rack (not a pan), as the directions suggest. Best delivery pizza: Marcello's ( A Father & Son Restaurant ). We used to really like Leona's, way back before I had to cut down on salt (now everything there tastes like it's been rolled in salt), before they changed their menu and all the signature items we used to get went away, and before the quality became more mass-made (and before their entire website went flash). I never got the pizza, but liked the cheese sticks (they were like logs. they were fantastic.), salads, and deserts. But then, after a series of declining-quality experiences, we had to go on a hunt for a new favorite place. Marcello's left a well-timed menu on our door. They're pricier than I'd like, but the taste... it's amazing. We try to only order once a month, or every other month, 'cause we know it's a treat and we should cook at home. So now we're like, "It's the season finale of Battlestar - SPECIAL OCCASION!" or "First day of Spring - SPECIAL OCCASION!!" and so on. They don't have pictures I can find to tempt you with, so I'll give you the descriptions of our favorite "thin and crispy" pizzas. First choice - buffalo chicken: Buffalo (hot) sauce, fresh ground chicken breast, tomato, red onion and mozzarella cheese. Blue cheese available upon request (yes, you need to get the blue cheese) Second choice - garlic chicken, Mushroom and Fresh basil: Fresh ground chicken breast made with garlic and olive oil sauce, fresh mushrooms topped with mozzarella, romano cheese and fresh basil, seasoned with herbs and spices Also, they have a hot toffee apple desert pizza that's very nice. We got another menu on our door from one of those new, yuppie, trendy places opening up (hi, gentrification) and thought we'd try it last night. It was miserably bad. Next time I'll just stick with one of the above! - Tags:best pizza evar, blech, buffalo chicken, deep dish pizza, delivery, dude - what happened to leona's, garlic, garlic alfredo, hot toffee apple pizza, marcello's, nom, pizza, special occasion, thin crust pizza, yum

| The first computers I ever used more than once or twice were the Apple IIes - the first ever 'computer lab' at our school. We got them in 4th grade, and there were something like 9 or 12 for the whole school. More, even, than The Oregon Trail, I remember a program that we used to be rewarded with use of when we did really well (maybe in the gifted program?). The basic idea was a piece of paper with holes cut out and patterns or lines. Then, we were given a blank piece of paper and a hole-punch that only worked at a certain point onscreen and you could rotate or fold the piece of paper but you had to make it look like the one you were shown. I assure you, it was the height of 3D graphics with the being-able-to-rotate-the-paper part. We got our first telephone answering machine sometime around 4th grade as well - and we were one of the first people I knew to have one. ( And so on...Collapse )What else? | Quite a while ago, I saw this You Tube video... and I couldn't stop humming it and/or infecting others with the earworm. I got the thing stuck in my head and wanted to have it on mp3, take it with me everywhere, add it to playlists and all that jazz. I wrote to the band, asking if it was available for purchase anywhere. They wrote back to me today, and it's available on iTunes and Amazon and as a ringtone! I'm not sure what I like most; the absolutely sincere and me-style cheese of the video and song, the chord progression (which tends to make me start humming I bet you they won't play this song on the radio), or what. But I bet you it has to do with the (again, sincere, cheesy, and me-style) modulation/acappella/clapping around 2:50 into the video. I also love giving money via purchase to artists I like. And the Corrigan Brothers have successfully taken up nearly 80% of my idle-humming-while-doing-other-things for nearly two months now, so they fit that category. Besides, they returned my email!!!! | |

| FLAME™ Body SprayI can't believe it's sold out. I don't even like Burger King much (except for the onion rings), and I still want this so badly. | |

| I'm not such a Christmas* kind of person. Neither am I Martha Stewart - most years I either put up some Christmas stuff or not, depending on if I'm in the mood. But recently, the One I Love Above All Others said to me, "I'd really like to have a tree and do Christmas this year..." So we have a tree, it's up, it's mostly decorated, and the cats and dogs (so far) aren't a) scared of it b) knocking it over and/or c) eating/playing with the ornaments. There are a few things that made this fun and awesome. We had recorded the Colbert Christmas Special, which was perfect to have on in the background whilst setting up the tree and decorating. The puppies really seemed to be enjoying it - the discovery process of sniffing everything and deciding if it was worthy was adorable. Also, Cthulhu is the right color for Christmas. *I like Christmas okay, when it's helping people or going to an evening or midnight service and stuff like that. But I don't like a month of red and green and consumerism and things and stuff and getting people things even if they don't want or need them or when you don't even know or like the person just because you need to give so-and-so a gift and forced social events and the fact that it's a hard time of the year for so very many people but everyone seems to be thought of as deficient if they're not "in the spirit" or don't want to celebrate it.
P.S. Why can I not find any downloadable/listenable copy of Throw the Yule Log On, Uncle John on the entire internets? Other than YouTube, that is.- Tags:christmas, christmas ornaments, christmas tree, colbert, cthulhu, cynicsm, decorating tree, doing christmas, fun with tags, icon intrepia made, misanthropic viewpoint, old madrigals i used to sing in college, santa cthulhu, throw the yule log on uncle john, weak google-fu, winter 2008

| LiveJournal will be down tomorrow for some period of time either more or less than four hours. Will you notice? If you'd usually be on LJ then, how will you pass the time instead? | |

| Days just fly by. At least this time I started to think about posting before 11:15 p.m. This NaBloPoMo thing might be good for me after all. This might be a very good time for a Public Service Announcement. Please do spread this information, link around, whatever you want to do - the account you save could be your friend's. Keeping your LiveJournal account secure1. Don't share your password with anyone. If you do (such as the case of an emergency, where you ask someone to post for you), change it immediately.Believe it or not, one of the most common account break-in scenarios involves someone who has been given the password. You probably completely, 100% trust your sister/brother/boyfriend/girlfriend/best friend/spouse/roommate never to do anything bad with your password. But fights happen and other things happen, and that's what's most frustrating about those account-break-ins. 2. Keep your email address secure, and make sure that you're in control of your first-validated email address.Your LiveJournal account is only as secure as your email address(s) and your email's password (make it a strong password!). If someone can get into your email account, they can reset your LiveJournal password. I recommend you go in and remove any old emails that you've ever used with your LiveJournal account. First, you should select the oldest email on that list that you have control over, and change your email address to that one. Once you've validated it, you'll be able to go in and remove any newer email addresses (any email added after the one you selected). For security reasons, the first-validated email cannot be removed at this time. Then, if you have old emails listed there that you currently don't have control over (can't get in, can't remember the password), you might be able to work with that email provider to get it back. FYI, Hotmail sucks. This is because they recycle old usernames. Go back to Hotmail and re-register your name. Keep it. Trust me, it's not just for LiveJournal - anything you ever registered to your Hotmail address is at risk. Really, just work to keep your name active there, even if you remove it from your LiveJournal account. 3. Check your login page every now and then.If you want to see all of your recent logins, you can do that here. If you think someone else has been signing into your account, do everything listed here - every single step, and in the order described. 4. Practice safe clicking.Yadda, yadda, yadda, you know the drill. Don't click on anything in any emails you get. LiveJournal will never ask you for your password in an email or other correspondence, ever. Don't click on memes, you tubes, or anything odd, even if they're posted by a friend, without hovering your mouse and checking the status bar to make sure that what you're clicking is for real. Edit: And run any and all spyware/virus/malware detection programs regularly: Spybot, AVG, AdAware, Malwarebytes, Avast etc. Is there anything I missed? | |

| I'm very un-hip. Sometimes I feel a little left out, but most of the time I really don't care, because there's only so much time in life to investigate things you may or may not be interested in.
List of things that people I know talk about and I have no interest in and don't really even know what they are past the name and topic heading:
- BPAL - Twilight - Fall Out Boy - Supernatural - LUSH (I've been to the LUSH site once to order a gift but don't understand the draw) - Harry Potter - dieting - 24 (the TV show)
Edit: to be continued as I think of more
Question: What do you feel this way about? What do people talk about, you know they're out there, people you like like these things, but you just really don't feel you want to go investigate at all? | |
