MasterTank

What is MasterTank?

Mastermind and Think Tank events are terrible, but when you combine them, you get the world’s most life-changing event of all time, a MasterTank.

A MasterTank event, which has never happened before until now, includes ThinkMind presentations by every attendee. ThinkMind presentations are like if you took a TED talk, a keynote presentation, and a Ph.D. dissertation, and said, Fuck that, I’m coming up with my own shit a few days before the event, and shared that amazingness with a select group of like-minded people.

While ThinkMind presentations are great, the event mainly involves eating and drinking one's way through the host town, which in this case is Mexico City. It’s also where the conversations that typically happen in the hallways and bars of conferences occur the entire time you’re here. Additionally, it’s a tax write-off, we think.

When is MasterTank?

The first, and possibly last MasterTank, is October 21-22, 2025, in Mexico City, MX.

How did I get invited?

Zeph, AJ, and Jon meet via Signal video chat every few weeks. They’ve been doing that since the plague started in 2021 to stay in touch with each other because their therapists said it was healthy to remain in contact with other humans, even if that urge didn’t exist anymore. Fueled by the hatred of the loudest voices and the complete lack of quality control of industry conferences, they wanted to go somewhere, but only with people they liked and could learn from.

Zeph wanted to invite 100 people because he’s an extrovert, and Jon and AJ wanted to invite 1 person each. Since our trio is one of the last remaining democracies on this planet, we voted and agreed to invite 1 person each. You are that one person. If Zeph invited you, then that makes you more special than the people AJ and Jon invited, I guess, statistically speaking, because you’re 1 out of 100, or something like that.

What is expected of me?

Besides complete loyalty and a cult-like following, our expectations of you are to have fun and to only share what you feel comfortable sharing. The exclusive and intimate nature of the event is designed to foster trust and camaraderie. Zeph, AJ, and Jon will share things individually and amongst the group that may be personal, and the expectation is that whatever we say doesn’t leave the group. We hope you’ll do the same, and you can expect that whatever you say is considered private and will never be mentioned outside of this group.

ThinkMind presentations

The beauty of this event is that it's limited to just six people, and it's designed to be a trusted environment where what gets shared stays within the group. It's also meant to bring together great minds that can support and share insights. Keeping that in mind, Zeph, AJ, and I have a suggested format for our presentations.

  1. Tell your story (helps to know each other better).
  2. Describe where you are now.
  3. Share the future you want.

That last part is intended to stimulate discussion among the group and to gain insights from others. You don't have to strictly follow that format, especially if you have something in particular you want to present; however, that's the format we're planning to follow. Each person will have an hour to present and discuss with the group.

Random topics

Afternoon sessions will cover a variety of random topics. The random topics will be created by all of us, pooled together, and then blindly picked to lead with the group. The random topics can be, you guessed it, about anything. You can submit random topics you're itching to discuss, or that you've pulled out of your ass, or something absurd that you got ChatGPT to generate.

What's the agenda?

Monday, October 20

Everyone should be getting into Mexico City on Monday. Head on over to the ridiculously awesome crib we found via Airbnb, pick your room, and then do whatever you want–hang out, grab something to eat, take a siesta, etc.–until dinner. We might grab a nightcap after dinner, but nothing too crazy, so we’re fresh for Tuesday’s ThinkMind presentations.

Tuesday, October 21

Tuesday morning is free until 10 am. Feel free to sleep in, catch up on emails, get coffee, work out, jog, etc. We begin with three attendees presenting their ThinkMind presentations. Later, the other three people will pick random topics and lead the discussion with the group.

Wednesday, October 22

If you are reading this on October 22, congratulations, you have survived Day 1 of MasterTank. Wednesday morning is the same as Tuesday morning (do whatever you want until 10 am). We’ll start with ThinkMind presentations from the other three attendees, and the other three will lead random topics.

Thursday, October 23

No agenda. Hang out and do whatever you want until it’s time to fly back home.

What to bring

We should have you covered most of the time, and almost every place accepts credit cards, but you may want to bring $100 in pesos as a precaution.

Bring a pair of pants or jeans and a decent shirt or two for the one or two nice restaurants we'll be going to. That will also make up for my only wearing shorts and t-shirts, thus making our group appear more respectable.

Lastly, highs will be in the low 80s, and lows will be in the low 50s. Also expect rain. So bring whatever you need to feel comfortable in that.
