This initial transmission is planned to begin at 0600 UTC on 6185 kHz, utilizing a modest 15-watt transmitter. Later 250 watts is planned. Plans are also underway to expand RealMix’s broadcasting capabilities to include a medium wave frequency as well.

The driving force behind this venture is Joakim Weckström. For further inquiries, this young gentleman can be contacted at [email protected].

We’re all eagerly anticipating the success of the test broadcast, and are thrilled to witness new developments in AM radio broadcasting. Wishing RealMix the best of luck!

Google translated from French:

February 24, the 66th anniversary of “Radio Rebelde, the broadcaster of the Cuban Revolution”. “Aqui Radio Rebelde La Voz de la Sierra Maestra, it is with these words that the radio of Ernesto Guevara known as Ché became known. The first transmission, which lasted 20 minutes, took place on February 24, 1958, at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, followed by another at 9 o’clock. It began with the first notes of the Invading Anthem, Captain Luis Orlando Rodríguez, Station Director, then read an editorial on the founding of the station. “Radio Rebelde was created to contribute to the necessary and useful orientation of the people in this decisive hour of the country, to make known the true intention of this struggle and to encourage and practice virtue wherever it is found, and to come together and love and live in passion for the truth as Martí said. “
In 1957, a few months after the landing of the Granma, Che Guevara realized how necessary and useful it was to have a radio which served to coordinate combat actions between the rebel troops and to break the silence, imposed by the dictatorship, on the progress of the war in the mountains and transmit directives and slogans for the development of the global struggle against tyranny.
It was Che himself who ordered the transfer of the equipment to the island and its installation on the Sierra Maestra in the province of Granma.
The radio was installed in a small house located in Alto de Conrado, near Che’s camp in La Mesa, Sierra Maestra. The transmitter, which was placed on the table, behind the microphone, was of the American brand, it was a Collins, model 32-V-2. It had a power of 120 to 150w and broadcast on short waves in the 20 meter band.
To escape central power, failing to be able to install a powerful transmitter, the guerrillas quickly equipped each rebel column with a small radio station, thus forming the Freedom Channel. At the end of the war, 32 stations from the guerrilla columns were connected to Radio Rebelde. Rebel who played an important and unifying role in the Cuban revolution.
On December 31, 1958, by order of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the station was dismantled from Che’s camp in La Mesa, Sierra Maestra and reinstalled in Palma Soriano. On January 1, 1959, it broadcast Fidel Castro’s speech to the people of Cuba live on Radio Rebelde.
It was in January 1959 that the clandestine radio station became the national transmitter of the new republic.
65 years later, Radio Rebelde broadcasts 24 hours a day a varied program of national and international music, news and sports programs in AM, FM and shortwave.
With the help of the Soviets, the station set up a national network and after the end of the USSR, it was China that helped Radiocuba – Señal Radio y TV
Another memory of the first broadcast still remains on the airwaves: the callsign of Radio Rebelde: the Invading Anthem is still the station sign used by Radio Habana Cuba Francés.!

Italy

This morning Feb. 27th, at 0600 UTC, thanks to the head-up of Roberto IZEROCDM, on 1584 kHz I tuned into the presumed Rimini (Italy) relay of Radio Luce and heard their sign on with the ID “Qui Radio Luce” (“Here is Radio Luce”).
So at last it isn’t presumed Radio Luce anymore, but it’s officially Radio Luce, Rimini (Italy). It seems that this sign on is the only moment in the day when they give an identification announcement. Some months ago I found their transmitting site in Rimini, just adjacent to the former site of RAI Rimini, now dismissed. Radio Luce broadcasts religious music and fundamentalist Catholic talks in Italian, with Radio Vaticana news bulletins on the hour.

The CRTC does not require hourly call letter Station Identifications but ISED, the federal government’s Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada department, does, for all individually licensed radio stations, other than the CBC. A rebroadcast transmitter does not have its own License, but is part of a parent station’s License, and must be 100% simulcast with the parent station. Only the parent station must ID itself, though some choose to almost mention their rebroadcast transmitters.
On the other hand, two separately licensed radio stations can simulcast but each station has to ID hourly. These days, with automation, most stations only ID their own station, though there are still a few holdovers from when the ISED regulations were originally written, before automation became popular, allowing multi-station IDs during simulcasting.

All times Eastern Standard Time (EST).
890 BC Dawson Creek CJDC
Heard just North of Toronto ON on February 23rd at 0038, with a much stronger signal than WLS-890 Chicago IL. Meanwhile, in Edmonton, CJDC is one of the only Canadian AM stations North of the city, which means the station is either very strong or nowhere to be heard, depending on Aurora conditions between Edmonton and Dawson Creek. Historically, CJDC has a special place in the hearts of many Western Canadian broadcasters, as it provided the first job for many of them, on AM and/or TV. Not just announcers, but also camera and engineering staff.

1330 SK Rosetown CJYM
DX conditions in Edmonton finally allowed CFYM-1210 Kindersley SK to be heard February 20th after several nights of failed attempts, checking against CJYM to determine the type of simulcasting in use. CFYM was at least 20 seconds behind CJYM, with each station doing its own ID, without mentioning the other. For example, CFYM was heard with a splitter “This is Our Music: Twelve Ten CFYM” at 0246 on February 20th. Obviously, there is no way to check now, but before they both began simulcasting CHAB-800 Moose Jaw SK, CJYM simulcast CFYM, and they appeared to be playing the same music at exactly the same time.

SRINAGAR: The engineers manning the AIR Medium Wave transmitter system are testing the system and there is a strong likelihood that the Radio will resume its services tonight after a four-day hiatus.

Informed sources in AIR Srinagar said they have been told by the engineering section that the transmitter is being tested after repairs for half an hour. Once it is all right, the services will resume fully tonight at any time.

The AIR Srinagar’s transmitting system located at Narbal has been down for technical reasons for the fourth consecutive day. It is old machinery and has encountered some serious problems. Radio’s FM services are running but not the primary service broadcast through its Medium Wave set-up.
