New Zealand

From the New Zealand Radio DX League:

This also affects Newstalk ZB on 927AM and Gold Sport on 1089AM:
“On 12 May 2025 RNZ will be retiring its aging AM radio transmitter site at Kairanga.
The Kairanga site provides AM radio transmissions for the Manawatū-Whanganui region on the 1449 AM frequency.
Listeners to RNZ National on the 1449 AM frequency will need to retune to either 101.0 FM or 567 AM to continue to listen to RNZ National.

Denmark

The end of MW broadcasting from Denmark.
Radio208 will be closed down in the course of May 2025 – so 1440 kHz (currently 300 Watts; previously 650 Watts) will go silent. After having been on the air since December 17th 2019.
1422 in Central Copenhagen has already been switched off some weeks ago. It never worked as anticipated.
And World Music Radio (WMR) stopped broadcasting on 927 kHz some six months ago; and will not return. WMR will however continue on shortwave and through internet streaming.

There are several reasons for closing Radio208. First – it is very expensive to run two radio stations. For the past few years I have paid some 530 euro monthly for music royalties. Second – some “anti-broadcast DXers” (no MW stations in my backyard please!) have been opposing the use of 1440 from Copenhagen. Third: it would be very difficult to get a new experimental license for MW from the Danish authorities as of July 1st 2025 (obtaining a permanent license is not possible). And fourth: I want to concentrate on WMR, as well as a new local, non-commercial FM-station (which actually will generate a bit of income from government funding – instead of Radio208 generating a lot of expenses).

Harbour Light of the Windwards 1400 kHz on higher power.
Acc. to a reply from the station they have managed to raise the power from 2 to 5 kW on 25 April and plan to raise to full 10 kW in the near future.

The Harbour Light is back!
I was very pleased to hear the Harbour Light back on 1400 this morning, with an ID “This is the Harbour Light of the Windwards broadcasting from Carriacou. The time is now 11.02”

It had quite a strong signal about ten minutes later. I’ve been watching for their return since they lost their tower in Hurricane Beryl on 1st July 2024. I’ve seen no evidence of even a carrier until today, but they are back a few Hertz above CBC, just where they used to be.  It’s a very commendable achievement that they should return to the air after such a significant setback. Well done, Harbour Light!

Türkiye

Yesterday, April 24, 2025, the TRT transmitter in Izmir was unexpectedly activated on 927 kHz. Presumably due to the earthquake, the cultural program was broadcast in good quality on 927 kHz in Salzburg until shortly after 11:00 PM UTC.

Türkiye

This evening I heard Turkey on MW for the first time in many years.
On 927kHz Power 927 from Italy was sharing the channel with Radio Bir from Turkey.
The language definitely sounded like Turkish so I cross checked with  the webstream from Radio Bir and also with a remote SDR in Cyprus (which wasn’t a good signal). Bir had time pips at 2200ut followed by news programme.
Reception on BDMR.
