Last Minute Goal Complete!

Image

We have been working on a goal for the good part of 2019.  As a family, we have been reading The Book of Mormon.  What's changed about the goal for this year, is that we have been trying to read with questions in mind.  Before reading a chapter (most nights), Stephen or I will ask the boys a question of focus to listen for while we study.  These questions could be summaries of the stories, important lessons, repeated phrases that we want to remember, important commandments, etc.
After the reading is done, we discuss what we learned (or sometimes didn't learn.). Some of our favorite nights have been picking up on random and unusual phrases that have been repeated, like "tight like unto a dish," to describe the barges used to cross the sea.  Each night, the boys can earn up to 3 scripture points for correct answers.  When we reach 50 points as a family, we get a treat together!

This has been a year of changes in our Scripture studies.  We have seen Evan's readying slowly improve.  We have seen the attention span and motivation of all the boys improve.  I'm grateful that we will be doing a churchwide study on this scripture again in 2020 and can't wait to see the promptings we get for more goals in the new year!

Cooper Extravaganza!!!! (Perot Museum + Stars Game)

As part of the Cooper Christmas Extreme Edition, we visited the Perot Museum.  It was full of so much good, clean fun and learning that I didn't take a lot of photos.

The favorite part was this room, which was full of athletic activity.  The boys waiting in line to race really fast creatures.

Then, we rounded out the night with a trip to a Stars Game.  Fun and cheering and high fat/high caloric food was had by all!

Boys to Cole

Image

On the day after Christmas, it was back to real life for Stephen and me--Stephen to work and me to the doctor.  Since the boys were out of school, they came along.

I was excited to wear my new outfit that Ryan picked out for me!

It was a quick trip and then on to lunch.  Not too bad.

Christmas Day

We started Christmas morning with Santa gifts and stockings.
Then, there was a delicious Cowboy Coffee Cake breakfast.
We opened the last gift of God present and shared thoughts of gratitude for 2019.

Finally, it was present time!
My favorite thing about this was that this was gift exchange between family members and my opportunity to shop with each boy individually to help pick out something special for family members.

There were lots of great t-shirts and games and new technology and things for the house.

Christmas Eve

We had a lovely night before Christmas.

It started with our traditional hibachi meal.  Then, we returned home and put on the matching Christmas PJs.

Image

I'm so glad the boys have grown to love our secret stocking exchange.  It's fun to shop and fill the stockings in secret and to think of our specific family member in the process.  Then, we try to guess the giver on Christmas Eve!

Finally, the milk and cookies for Santa were placed and the boys went to bed.

I loved our small and sweet evening this year, and we all went to bed, with visions of Christmas morning.

Elves

When we unboxed our Christmas supplies, what wondering sights were before our eyes:
Such Christmas wonder and glee!  After Two years packed away there were FIVE, not three!

Yes, the Elves came back with a vengeance!  Five extra people in our house to take care of.  Good thing they don't eat here!
