I think it's great that there weren't any "honor killings" in Shakespeare's world, or else Romeo and Juliet would be really, really short.

I turned in my last papers about an hour and a half ago. I'm done with the first year of my PhD program, and now all I can do is wait and see how I did this semester.

I am completely exhausted, as I've been up since around 10 yesterday morning working on papers, and though I'm utterly thrilled with how they turned out, my brain is no longer functional.

But it's over, at least for a little while.

"Majoritarianism is: two wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner." - shamelessly stolen from the website of an IA professor.

How so very true.

She's home, again. And again, she's apparently doing better. Let's hope that this time, it lasts.

Chloe got worse. She started puking again this afternoon and tonight the bloody diarrhea came back. I had to take her to the emergency hospital. They're putting her on stronger antibiotics and doing more tests.

I had to sign a form saying that I wanted her resucitated if the worst happened...

I'm too upset to cry.

Chloe is home, and she's doing a little better, but she's definitely not back to her old self. She seems kind of pissed at me for leaving her at the vet overnight, but what can you do? At least she's home, and she's going to be ok.

Now, to figure out how to pay for that silly $275 vet bill. Merp.

My dog is in the hospital. She has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, and they're keeping her overnight... maybe even longer.

I miss her. I'm worried. They didn't want me to come visit her before the end of the day, because she was giving them trouble and wouldn't let them put in an IV. She's dehydrated and is being pumped full of antibiotics, and she had bloody diarrhea this morning. There was a lot of blood. It scared me - even worse, she had that look dogs get just before they wander off to die.

Thank heavens I have an excellent veterinarian, but it feels really strange to be sitting in bed and not have Chloe curled up next to me. I'm supposed to go check on her in the morning, and I hope I can bring her home. I want her to be ok. I know, she's just a dog... but she's -my- dog, and she's the only being on this planet who will always love me unconditionally and always be happy to see me.

*sigh*

I have found the most divine beer ever made, and it is Sam Adams' Longshot Boysenberry Wheat.

I want to melt now. Srsly.

There's so much freakin' pollen in the air that it's hazy. The park looks like one of those paintings where the background is insanely detailed, but hazed out a little.

My allegra can't handle this. My nasonex can't handle this. It's just plain miserable, and all health officials can say is that you should stay indoors. Screw that.

Damn, I wish it would rain for days and days. I miss being able to breathe.

There is no musical artist in this world whose music I can relate to more than Jimmy Buffett.

Man, I shouldn't have let my playlists gather dust for so long.

Why is it that, after my income has been cut in half in the past year, even though I always claim no exemptions on my W-4s, I STILL owe the federal government </strike>$256</strike>$166, after every last deduction of charitable donations possible?

Mind you, I'm irritated that it wasn't deducted from my paychecks, not that I have to pay my taxes. I like paying my taxes. I just don't like having to come up with extra money to send the federal government when the state of Georgia already makes me pay for my car tags and such on my birthday, which just happens to be the day before the federal tax filing deadline.

Dammit.

[Edit: More wrangling has gotten my tax liability down to $23. Gotta love deductions for having a home office. Whee!]

Who the hell steals only TWO wheel covers from one's car?

And caddy-cornered ones at that.

Odd.

Today, so far, has been one of those days where you have to remind yourself of just how difficult it is to balance your professional and private lives.

I want to scream, cry, and jump with joy, all at the same time.

Sometimes, life changes too quickly for our souls to keep up.

I think it's entirely possible that at times, we need to take a step back and take count of the whirlwinds we call life. I find myself wondering what I've gotten myself into, but rarely in such a questioning manner that I don't think it's all worth it.

I know it's all worth it. Absolutely worth it.

I could not be happier, but sometimes that is not enough to ward off the peaceful melancholy that my soul longs for.

It's entirely likely that you, dear reader, have no clue what I speak of... but that's okay. You don't have to.

My cup runneth over.

I need YOUR help!
I need some volunteers to test my recipes. Tonight was deep dish pizza (including the sauce, which is mega yum)... this week I'll also be cooking and writing recipes for:

  • creamy chipotle chicken pasta

  • scalloped potatoes

  • ziti with smoked bacon and peas in a light garlic sauce

I'm also open to creating anything that's specially requested... :) It's my goal to have five recipes written and done by the end of the week. I promise that ingredients won't cost too much - tonight's pizza was roughly $8 to make and in my opinion blows anything I could get from a pizza shop around town out of the water.

Let me know and I'll email the recipes :)

That does it. I need to plan a trip to Mobile. I need to see Kara and Jeanna and everybody else.

I will require:
A place to stay (with my dog, if possible) for the weekend (fri-sun)
Things to do (girly weekend? nails, opera maybe? downtown? anything goes.)
People to see!

Let me know. Sometime in the next month, preferably.

If I were to buy some paid account time, and if I were to buy you some paid account time too, would you help me redo my journal and webpage? Because it really needs done. I'm not 23 or married anymore, dammit.

As a devout lover of beagles, I think that man needs to be taken to the woodpile and beaten.

I would -never- trade Chloe for anything. Especially not beer, as much as I love beer. Besides, beer doesn't keep your feet warm at night or lick your face when you're upset.

The dog's licking my toes right now. I'm going to stop writing and go love on her a while.
