- I’ve been paying our bills (which will make Deb very very happy); but midway through, I ran out of checks. I went upstairs to the drawer where we keep the checks, but…all out. Deb must have taken the last bunch (she says I always accuse her of taking the last of the whatever without telling me, but I know she did it this time).
- So, I came back downstairs, and on an index card with a big fat Sharpie, I wrote a sweet note for Deb: “CHECKS?!“
- I went to get the mail. In the mailbox was the box of checks from the check-printing people. I came back in and tore up the index card and finished paying our bills.
- I’ve taken to drinking my water and my iced tea and my diet Coke with a wedge of lemon or lime and a sprig of mint.
- I buy the mint at Turner Farms. I walk into that little shed, and there’s a pretty bunch of mint all tied up nicely and in a vase of cool water. Who wouldn’t want that?!
- I didn’t know fireflies flew around and lit up all night long, but they do.
- I went outside at 3:00 AM this morning to check out the yowling and yowling and yowling from Henry. He’s been having it out with some other cat (who, incidentally, entered our house through the doggie door the previous night. Deb broke that one up).
- And there—in the most beautifully black night, against the black black woods—were fireflies quietly lighting up.
- I was spellbound.
- There was other stuff I wanted to tell you, but now I can’t remember it.
