HAM IT UP!

My favorite type of mobile game is one that is simple to understand, yet hard to put down. Here are some sketches and mockups for a simple "endless runner" type of game I worked on that shows my process of development.

 The first stage consisted of just trying to come up with an overall theme, look, and feel. Here are some examples of my lead character. I played with the idea of a hamster-like creature flying through space and what that would look like. The chubbier the better!

Here is a wireframe I came up with that outlines the simple gameplay and features I might implement. When does the gameover screen popup? When can I buy something from the store? All these questions and more are answered here in the wireframe!

Now we're cooking! Here are some early-stage-revisions of the main characters. Intergalactic BFFFs. Pre-final rendering. What I wanted to do here was expand on the costumes and personalities. I've recently switched to using Manga Studio 5, which has a fantastic brush engine.

Here are some environment roughs for an opening shot. The goal here was to portray our new recruit arriving at his destination, a salvager trading outpost. Sketches were based on some photo ref. of various canyons and rocky places.

Ships Ahoy!

My current project requires me to design a ship for the main characters. A cargo ship. Capable of landing on the ground and docking in orbit. I'd imagine the functionality would be similar to the serenity (from firefly). The ship would be big enough for a crew to work and live in for days at a time, yet small enough to outmaneuver the occasional murderous band of space pirates. YAARG!

Here's a turn around for an upcoming sci-fi epic.

Some super rough sketches of a space suit. Wanted to steer clear of skin tight costumes and armor like what you would see in DeadSpace or Masseffect. The main purpose of the suit is being able work in orbit, safely.
