MkV Sleipnir Grav-Bike Assembly Instructions

Image

Thank you for purchasing the grav-bike upgrade kit.

This kit is designed for use with the Primaris Outriders kit by Games Workshop.

The instructions below will take you through the build of a grav-bike step-by-step, alternatively you can watch this assembly video.

IMPORTANT! Please take care when working with resin, do not breath in resin dust.

Step 01 – Resin Preparation

The first step is to clean up your printed resin components. This should be done with a sharp hobby knife. It is not recommended to use clippers as the brittle printed resin will break and fracture.

Your kit will include the following parts: 1x Air Intake, 1x Bull-Bar, 1x Engine, 2x Front Grav-plates and 2x Rear Grav-plates for each bike.

When removing the resin supports take care not to clip off the connecting rods on the grav-plates. See image below.

Once all the printing supports have been removed the components should look like this:

Once the resin components are ready, the plastic outrider components need to be prepared. This will involve cutting up the plastic kits.

Step 02 – Plastic Chassis Preparation

A photo of the example plastic components before any cutting is done are included below:

Starting with the two main chassis components of the plastic bike, the wheels and bracing arms have been clipped off from both the front and the back. In addition the small sensors over the front wheels have been clipped off. All areas have been carefully sanded flat.

And after clipping and sanding:

The two chassis halves can now be glued together (make sure you have matching halves in line with the instructions provided by Games Workshop in the outrider bike box). Here are some different view of these components for reference:

Step 03 – Core Kit Assembly

Now the chassis is glued together and prepared for assembly, we can begin to construct the bike around it. The next step is to fit the handle bars (i’d recommend without glue), the core torso of the rider and the outer bike bodies. Please refer to the core kit instructions for the order and corresponding parts.

With the outer bike body fitted and glued in place, we need to flip the bike over and trim the details off of the bottom of the outer armour. These need to be removed so that the grave plates have a flat surface to fix to.

That’s all modifications to the core plastic kit complete. Now assembly of the resin components and the remaining plastic kit can be completed.

Step 04 – Engines & Air Intakes

The first item to fit is the resin air intake, this will slot into the prepared front of the plastic kit where the front wheel used to be. Once glued in place, the front bull-bar can be glued in too.

The second item to fit is the resin engine thruster, this will slot into the prepared back of the plastic kit where the rear wheel used to be.

STOP! it is at this stage that you can fill the holes in the side of the bike outer chassis and in the bottom behind the resin engine with green-stuff or similar filler. This should be done before moving on to Step 05.

Step 05 – Grav Repulsor Plates

The next step is to fit the grav-repulsor plates to the underside of the bike chassis. This step requires careful alignment.

The grav plates need to paired up with their matching partner. One will have connecting rods, one will have holes. There is no right or left, so don’t worry which way round you fit them.

Image

At this stage you will need to dry-fit the grav plates to the underside of the bike and decide on the spacing you want.

I would recommend starting with the front grav-plates as they have angled brackets which hug the chamfer on the bottom of the bike. See image below.

Image

The connecting rods will then need to be carefully trimmed to suit the spacing. I would recommend cutting a small amount at a time off of the connector rods and repeatedly dry-fitting the plates until the spacing looks correct. See image above.

Once happy with the spacing the grav plates can be glued together and on to the chassis bottom. I would recommend locating them so they just overlap the toes of the rider and sit flush with the lower part of the air intake. See images below.

The rear grav plates should be spaced to match the front ones (see red lines below, all these gaps are equal widths), carefully cutting the connector rods down to the designed length. These grav-plates glue directly onto the bottom of the bike.

Care should be taken to make sure they line through smoothly with the front grav-plates (blue lines below) and to make sure they align with the rear exhausts.

Step 06 – The Pilot

With the grav-plates glued in place the rider can be finished using the instruction provided in the base plastic kit.

I would recommend using perspex rod to mount the grav bike on its base.

I would also recommend drilling out the bolter barrels and exhaust pipes on the plastic kit.

I hope you have found this grav-bike assembly tutorial useful.
