location Al Khobar

Al Khobar Art Corridor Urban plaza

In the heart of Al-Khobar, a once-forgotten zoo-garden has been reimagined through the FURDHA Walk project, a vibrant, linear public space designed to reconnect people with place, culture, and one another. Encompassing a Community & Art Center, a central urban plaza, and a shared street corridor leading to the waterfront, the project forms a cohesive civic landscape. It supports art programming, community gatherings, and flexible public events, breathing new life into Al-Khobar’s urban fabric through a contemporary, climate-responsive lens. Tasked with transforming a vacant stretch into a place of meaning and vitality, our team envisioned an inclusive, future-ready public realm, where art, shade, and walkability converge. FURDHA Walk now stands as a platform for daily life, local creativity, and shared identity.

Armani Tianxi Twin Towers

MLA+ was commissioned to redesign the Tianxi Twin Towers. Upon completion the twin towers in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in South- Eastern China, will be the tallest residential twin towers of the world. As part of the redesign the communal spaces on the ground floor and the tower tops, as well as the complete façade strategy where revised. The glass façade is decorated with a high contrast pattern that wraps the towers like a fabric. This powerfull design is executed as a modular, prefabricated system – an intelligent and cost effective way to combine expressive image and smart technical solution. During the design process, our local developer client Menli partnered with the international brand Armani/Casa to strengthen the branding of the project. Armani is responsible for the interior design of the project, which is currently sold as highend luxury apartments in the Chinese market. Two 222 m high residential towers, 110.000 m2 total floor space, residential with community plinth and restaurant and fitness club

Huaqiangbei Regeneration Masterplan

Huaqiangbei Regeneration Masterplan

Huaqiangbei Regeneration Masterplan

Huaqiangbei is a Shenzhen icon. It is the place where Shenzhen tech culture manifests itself in the most striking way. In the last 30 years the area has seen a transformation from early sweatshop factories to the electronic parts wholesale market of the world. With Shenzhen rapidly changing its character from a production city to a knowledge center, Huaqiangbei is transforming as well. The masterplan for Huaqiangbei uses the unique Shenzhen identity of the place and extends it into the future. Using the organisational principle of the computer’s motherboard, different functional units are allocated in the area – education, business service, education, R&D, incubation and – still – wholesale and consumer consumption. A series of new ‘sensors’ and plugins add these uses and elevate the relatively flat and low area into the third dimension, turning it into an iconic ‘supercomputer’. These plugins also question traditional program allocation. A vertical factory offers new types of production space on higher floors. A cloud academy offers lifelong learning and education right on top of the maker environment of the old Huaqiangbei.
