Mobile & Gacha Gaming

About a week or so ago, I reviewed Sonic Rumble. Partly because I had been playing it for so long and genuinely liked the game, partly because I thought much of the critique was misinformed, as well as to bring forth what I thought was an issue underrepresented in reviews.

It was a balanced review that pointed out things I enjoyed as well as critiquing multiplayer issues. (It is difficult to accept a party invite if you are not in the app, making it harder to earn Red Star Rings.)

And this was greeting me in my mailbox just a day or so later!

This wasn’t any kind of existing promotion, I was just giving my honest thoughts of my own volition.

They also left a response to my main review in the Play Store. I'm very encouraged, as they seem very conscientious in monitoring player critique. I have not had a lot of time to play the game in the meantime (or test to see if they fixed the multiplayer difficulties) But it does make me optimistic for what is yet to come.

An emote I had been wanting for a long time finally appeared in the shop today...and I bought it!

I spent $10 to buy 160 Red Star Rings (I only spent a little over half of them on the emote, so it's more like $6 on this specifically).



I bought it with Surge in mind. She is very cute all asleepy ( ´ ꒳ ` ). It took a little self-debate, but in the end I impulsively bought it, with three minutes to spare before it disappeared from the shop! I was so frantic putting in my debit card info lol. But I had done a good job reaching my goals today, and I opted for dinner at home, so I managed to do it without feeling too guilty!

Also, something funny (unrelated) happened in the first game I used it in. I got an attack item right before I was going to fall to my death, and I targeted a Sonic player who was also mid-fall to see if I could gain enough momentum to get back on the stage. I guess it wasn't enough, so I just ended up dragging us both to our deaths XD

(That would be very in-character for Surge though, her whole thing in the comics is how she hates Sonic and wants to brutally murder him.)

...this is actually the first time in my life I have spent real money in a mobile game.

Oh hey Kalloway! I found out about this through your post in dw_community_promo, so I figured I would make an intro post.

I play some mobile games for side cash, but the main one I play for fun is Sonic Rumble. I like having a two hundred red star ring buffer (the rarest currency in the game) before buying a skin, but I broke my own rule to get this Surge the Tenrec skin last week.

Isn't she cute? She only appears in the Sonic comics, and I was so happy she got into the game!



I also got a Pirate Sonic skin through getting enough skin fragments through the daily claw machine. Sonic is my other favorite character. I've been alternating between Surge and the Sonic skin because if you play as Sonic 250 times, you get a silver nameplate with his silhouette on it. (Nothing like that for Surge yet, unfortunately!)



I don't see anyone else who plays the game currently, but if anyone does, I can give my friend code! I'm so glad there's a community like this!

As a conversation starter...do any of y'all have any soft "rules" when it comes to your mobile games (and do you often break them)? Anyone here like Sonic, or play a mobile game specifically because it's related to one of your existing fandoms? I'd love to hear it!
