Why did I agree to cover for Lonjid tomorrow?

I had the day off. I don't want to work lunch. It means I have to get up earlier. And not only am I working lunch, I'm the closer. Which means I stay until the early on server gets there at 4:00 PM. So from 11:30 AM until 4:00 PM, I'm taking tables.

It is kind of exciting, because this is the first time I've been allowed to close. I have more responsibility- I have to make sure the other servers did their sidework and swept their sections and stocked their condiments. And then I can sign them off.

Holy crap, I get to sign them off! I get to put my signature on one of their credit card slips! How should I do it? Should I just write my name (maybe in a circle, like Megan does hers)? Should I make a little squiggle (like Lonjid does)? Should I make a unique, unreadable piece of art (like John)?

Well, that's exciting.

What's not exciting is having to stay there until 4 PM. Most of the day is gone by then. And who knows, I might have to stay longer, even if I'm cut at 4. If I get a table at 3:30, and they're not finished at 4, I still have to stay there and serve them and clean up the table once they're gone.

But I will make more money than everyone else. I'll get more tables over the course of my time there than the other servers will. More tables = more tips.

But part of my sidework will still be plates. I HATE plates. They never go away. And even if you're on top of it, it's still almost always the case that you have to make multiple trips back to the dishwashing area to stock all of them since you can't carry them all at once (especially if they're different shapes, and going to different places).

So why did I agree to do this again?

Lonjid is sick. And I like Lonjid. She's one of my favorite coworkers. That's why.
