The Mandalorian and Grogu     HD720p 29MB
Trailer for another Star Wars spin-off movie. The generic summary still reads: Once a lone bounty hunter, Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his apprentice Grogu embark on an exciting new Star Wars adventure. Sigourney Weaver will also be part of the cast, Jeremy Allen White and Martin Scorsese will lend their voices. Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book, The Lion King).
I had totally forgotten that there was already a short trailer last September. Also, the recent 30-second Superbowl spot that gives the feeling that this will be a Space Western: HD720p 9MB.

Toy Story 5     HD720p 34MB
Trailer for fifth installment of the animated franchise. Become acquainted with the new character Lilypad, a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet (Greta Lee) that makes Buzz (Tim Allen), Woody (Tom Hanks), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they have to go head-to-head with the all-new threat to playtime. Also new to the voice cast are Craig Robinson as Atlas, a cheerful talking GPS hippo toy and Conan O’Brien as the toilet training tech toy, Smarty Pants. Co-directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL·E, John Carter, Finding Nemo) and McKenna Harris.
I hesitate to mention it, but I don't think I've seen any of the previous films.

Pressure     HD720p 33MB
Historical drama based on a stage play. In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, the movie follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser) and meteorologist Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott) as they face an impossible choice - launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether. Kerry Condon, Chris Messina and Damian Lewis are also part of the cast. Directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai).

Redux Redux     Tlr1 HD720p 14MB    Tlr2 HD1080p 19MB
Indie multi-verse movie that garnered some favourable festival reviews. In an attempt to avenge her daughter’s death, Irene Kelly (Michaela McManus) travels through parallel universes, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again. With each kill, she grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.
Now in limited release in the US. Two different, short trailers to choose from.

Rose     HD1080p 28MB
Austere drama filmed in black-and-white set in the early 17th century. Somewhere in Germany, a mysterious soldier (Sandra Hüller) arrives in an isolated Protestant village. Slight and modest by nature, his face disfigured by a scar, this stranger declares himself to be the heir of a long-abandoned farmstead and produces a document to support his claim to the suspicious villagers. With the passage of time, he overcomes their doubts and, proving himself to be a hard-working, God-fearing man, becomes a part of their community. However, his quest for acceptance is built on a bold-faced lie.
Another showcase for Hüller's talent. Movie currently takes part in the official competition at the Berlin Film Festival.

Hey everynyan! It's me, Samifer, posting... on Dreamwidth...

I'd really like to get back into the habit of checking my reading page... :') Maybe next week... In the meantime I thought I'd use this post to write down some stuff I'd like to get done soon:

  • Start working on commission stuff I've been putting off (sketch for one; concept for other)
  • Make a page for Citrus Con 2026
  • Crosspost stuff I haven't crossposted to [community profile] teamflare
  • I'm like 99.99% sure there was something else I meant to include but now I can't remember it anymore

My hope is that my next post here will be my Official 2026 To-Do List (No Pressure But Still It Would Be Nice To Get That Stuff Done)... Until then, to try to get into the habit of posting art here, I'd like to crosspost my entry for [tumblr.com profile] perfworldweek! It's a comic I've had sketched out since December, but I used the ship week as an excuse to finally finish it. I think overall it took me a week-ish to make, which seems fair enough for a six-pages B&W comic with shading and some backgrounds.

I've actually been getting back into making comics FOR REAL since Legends Z-A came out, which is nice. Not all of them have been multiple pages long but I did draw a two-pages one, and I have two other thumbnailed (one is another two-pages one, the other is four-pages) which is more than I can say I've done comics-wise since like. 2022 probably. So, you know! Progress!

Anyway, here's the comic. Putting it under a cut and all of that. Be warned that it contains spoilers for Pokémon Legends Z-A!

troisième homme )

The comic has also been posted on Bluesky, Tumblr, and even AO3, if you want to check it out there!

Another thing that's on my 2026 agenda already is finally archiving my old French fic on AO3... I've made a pact with a friend who's doing the same thing. I don't know if it's going to help but it's nice to have someone to back you up. We're doing a buddy goal on the app Finch (no idea if anybody else who's subscribed to me here uses it, but it's one of those habit tracking apps... you take care of a little bird... it's not guit-trippy at all which is cool. It's actually helped me build some morning habits, I think???)

That's about all I've got for today... I hope you're doing well, as usual! You should definitely check out what's been made for the ship week, there's some good stuff in there! \o/

spiderbread: (scared blob)

If you asked me how I felt about 'horror' media, my first instict is to say I can't consider myself an aficionado for the genre. I thought for a long time that I was averse to gorey visuals because of squemishness, or to jumpscares because sudden loud things in my face just makes my head hurt. But that's obviously a really simplified take on what counts as horror, and its not like the sight of fake guts or a screaming mascot can't be done in a good or bad way too.

The kind of stories I think I've enjoyed most that would fall under the 'horror' genre are definitely the ones that had me going "thats so cool 😲" either because of some terrfying or existential concept/premise I've never thought of before, or just something executed in a really striking/compelling way. Something doesn't even have to be 'scary' to fit that label for me, like halloween decorations, or 'spooky' shows like Courage the cowardly dog. At least that's just me trying to make sense of why I suddenly decided I wanted to watch a bunch of different horror stuff starting from last year-ish.

Not gonna share opinons about every single thing I watched, read or played though because there was a lot. Instead maybe to try and cover a variety of feelings, I'll just talk about one thing from each kind of media.

Among a bunch of movies, I watched all the
Final Destination films at some point

final destination 2000 poster

There's like five or six of these movies, I often forget the exact number. The first two movies I totally get why they're classics. In case you're reading this and you don't know of it, the first movie released in 2000 (I remember seeing a DVD for it! 👵) is about a boy who sees a premonition of him and his friends all dying in plane crash right before they're about to board a plane at the airport. He saves them all from dying in that crash, but then his friends start dying one-by-one under improbable accidents, like Death itself is coming after them to correct this mistake...

Watching a down-to-earth protagonist trying to save themselves and others from being killed by the very universe itself is really gripping. And honestly, there's something about the specific tone and aesthetic of a movie from this time that hits really well for me. A movie like this made this year might try too hard to be profound or artsy in every scene and be kinda minimal in its soundtrack, but in 2000 its totally fine to play action-scene strings during a tense moment or throw in a rock song somewhere. It's 'comfy' to me in a way. Granted I also watched Saw (Really good movie by the way...!) which was from 2004 which I thought was considerably more cinematic in its tone and aesthetic despite the even smaller scale of its events, so maybe Final Destination is just uniquely quirky in that way?

I'd say only the first two movies have an actual 'story', or at least one that matters! Like the first movie has our protagonist desperately try to figure out the rules behind Death's design and how to navigate it, and he does just a good enough job that at some points I truly had no idea whether he'd succeed in saving someone or not. The second movies follows a new cast, adds a few twists to the rules that act as a follow-up to the first movie's events, and reaches what I think is a satisfying ending overall.

And after that point, they definitely realised they had nailed down a pretty perfect format to keep pumping out movies because every Final Destination after that is more or less the same movie. Protagonist gets a premonition and avoids a terrible accident, death then stalks and kills the survivors one by one, ends with the remaining survivors thinking they're safe but then killed right before credits.

Not that I'm necessarily saying all of that is a bad thing though 😆! It's just that since there's no longer any mystery or discoveries about the mecahnics of death in these movies, it feels like the only reason to watch them is to the different and increasingly over-the-top-ways that people get killed. And that's like totally fine if that's all you want, but I definitely do prefer when there is kind of a story to chew on or concepts to think about in the background too. On top of that, I think violence and gore can be done in a way that's interesting, but the in these movies it's usually just plain gross which isn't to my taste 😅

Although despite me saying that, I actually really liked the climax in Final Destination 4 (which is just called The Final Destination, which lol because there were two more moves after) in particular. The protagonist rushes to stop an explosion caused by a fire breaking out near some explosive barrels. It takes place in just one room where the barrles are and should be simple, but stuff just keeps Happening to stop him, like the fire alarm breaks or a nailgun near him goes off. Its like a final battle with the villain in any other movie, except the 'villain' here is the forces of the universe itself conspiring to stop you. Thought that was really memorable!

A game I really like is the survival horror rpg called Look Outside
made with good ol' RPGMaker

Image

This game's pretty recent but I wouldn't be surprised if it's already considered a rpgmaer classic along so many others. The game in its entirety takes place within an appartment building where just about everyone has turned into some form of monster, and you have to explore the various parts of the building, finding supplies and making friends (or enemies) with all sorts of weird people/creatures along the way.

This game is actually a good example of what I said about liking horror that fits a more 'spooky' label like Courage. I say that because this game is only actively scary maybe half the time? The rest of the time its eithr really funny or sweet or just classic exciting RPG action. But even when its not actively trying to unsettle you, its filled to brim with so many amazingly terrifying designs and concepts. Grotesque body horror mutations, parasites that take over your mind and body, dopplegangers stealing your face, a car that eats you... There's no shortage of creative monstrosities to run into. I really love the wide variety of things you can come across.

Some events or plot threads are existentially terrifying. And then right afterwards I can run into another story that's just plain goofy. And it all manages to feel cohesive. Like one event that's really memorable to me is when you watch a guy get infected by a worm that enters him through his eye and splits his body apart. Then his severed head goes off to violently take over a different guy's body by replacing that guy's head while keeping him alive... 😨

On the other end of the spectrum, my favourite among the large cast of possible party members is when you befriend enough cockroaches, a bunch of them will collectively come together into the shape of a man in a trenchcoat and join your party to repay your kindness. 🕵️‍♂️🧡

I like it a lot, and apparently there was a really big update recently that added a hundred new things, so I'll have to check it out again sometime.

...Anyway, since its on my mind, here's a Touhou doujin music album I listened to a very long time ago

I was thinking about media that 'scared' me in a good way and suddenly got nostalgic over this. I think its relevant enough to the rest of what I've been talking about?

utsusu album cover

夢 (utsutsu, or Dream or Reality?) is an album from 2016 probably my favourite circle Diao Ye Zong (凋叶棕). A lot of RD-Sounds' works have been inspiring to me in one way or another, but this album in particular is really special. I've talked about the album many years ago in this tumblr post here, and I'm scared to look at my own posts from that long ago so I'm not going to 😑. Regardless I'll try to sum it up real quick here:

The theme of the album and all of its songs are dreams, obviously. The most prominent song centers on Sumireko and the idea of her being trapped within her dreams. It plays at the midway of the setlist, is called 無終祭 (Endless Festival) and is about being trapped in an endless dream, and marks the exact point of the album where the songs shift from being about sweet dreams to nightmares.

First thing I want to mention is that this album was released in 2016. That's two years before ZUN released Violet Detector, the actual official touhou game about Sumireko being trapped in her dreams! Talking about being ahead of the curve... 🧠

I like this album a lot but when it comes to Endless Festival specifically, I think I've maybe only ever listened to that song... once? But it was a really impactful listen. I'm worried about overselling this song because in truth its a fairly simple idea in execution. It starts off as a cheerful festive chant about having fun, but it starts distorting in places and then repeating unnaturally in places, arguably climaxing in a sudden moment where it just cuts to the sound of a flatline... before picking back up like nothing is wrong. (And then the themes of the album are carried through in the secret bonus true final song of the album but that's a whole other thing to unpack)

It's a pretty straightforward idea, but I think its wonderfully done and incredibly chilling, especially when taken with the context of the album as a whole. I enjoy a lot of dyz albums and the way some of them they carry a consistent theme or story throughout, and this album is probably a top example.

...I don't have a conclusion

At some point I'm probably going to watch the latest V/H/S horror anthology movies because I've seen the first several already, and rewatch a playthrough of Silent Hill 4 because I think that game is really cool.

[staff profile] denise posting in [site community profile] dw_news
Back in August of 2025, we announced a temporary block on account creation for users under the age of 18 from the state of Tennessee, due to the court in Netchoice's challenge to the law (which we're a part of!) refusing to prevent the law from being enforced while the lawsuit plays out. Today, I am sad to announce that we've had to add South Carolina to that list. When creating an account, you will now be asked if you're a resident of Tennessee or South Carolina. If you are, and your birthdate shows you're under 18, you won't be able to create an account.

We're very sorry to have to do this, and especially on such short notice. The reason for it: on Friday, South Carolina governor Henry McMaster signed the South Carolina Age-Appropriate Design Code Act into law, with an effective date of immediately. The law is so incredibly poorly written it took us several days to even figure out what the hell South Carolina wants us to do and whether or not we're covered by it. We're still not entirely 100% sure about the former, but in regards to the latter, we're pretty sure the fact we use Google Analytics on some site pages (for OS/platform/browser capability analysis) means we will be covered by the law. Thankfully, the law does not mandate a specific form of age verification, unlike many of the other state laws we're fighting, so we're likewise pretty sure that just stopping people under 18 from creating an account will be enough to comply without performing intrusive and privacy-invasive third-party age verification. We think. Maybe. (It's a really, really badly written law. I don't know whether they intended to write it in a way that means officers of the company can potentially be sentenced to jail time for violating it, but that's certainly one possible way to read it.)

Netchoice filed their lawsuit against SC over the law as I was working on making this change and writing this news post -- so recently it's not even showing up in RECAP yet for me to link y'all to! -- but here's the complaint as filed in the lawsuit, Netchoice v Wilson. Please note that I didn't even have to write the declaration yet (although I will be): we are cited in the complaint itself with a link to our August news post as evidence of why these laws burden small websites and create legal uncertainty that causes a chilling effect on speech. \o/

In fact, that's the victory: in December, the judge ruled in favor of Netchoice in Netchoice v Murrill, the lawsuit over Louisiana's age-verification law Act 456, finding (once again) that requiring age verification to access social media is unconstitutional. Judge deGravelles' ruling was not simply a preliminary injunction: this was a final, dispositive ruling stating clearly and unambiguously "Louisiana Revised Statutes §§51:1751–1754 violate the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as incorporated by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution", as well as awarding Netchoice their costs and attorney's fees for bringing the lawsuit. We didn't provide a declaration in that one, because Act 456, may it rot in hell, had a total registered user threshold we don't meet. That didn't stop Netchoice's lawyers from pointing out that we were forced to block service to Mississippi and restrict registration in Tennessee (pointing, again, to that news post), and Judge deGravelles found our example so compelling that we are cited twice in his ruling, thus marking the first time we've helped to get one of these laws enjoined or overturned just by existing. I think that's a new career high point for me.

I need to find an afternoon to sit down and write an update for [site community profile] dw_advocacy highlighting everything that's going on (and what stage the lawsuits are in), because folks who know there's Some Shenanigans afoot in their state keep asking us whether we're going to have to put any restrictions on their states. I'll repeat my promise to you all: we will fight every state attempt to impose mandatory age verification and deanonymization on our users as hard as we possibly can, and we will keep actions like this to the clear cases where there's no doubt that we have to take action in order to prevent liability.

In cases like SC, where the law takes immediate effect, or like TN and MS, where the district court declines to issue a temporary injunction or the district court issues a temporary injunction and the appellate court overturns it, we may need to take some steps to limit our potential liability: when that happens, we'll tell you what we're doing as fast as we possibly can. (Sometimes it takes a little while for us to figure out the exact implications of a newly passed law or run the risk assessment on a law that the courts declined to enjoin. Netchoice's lawyers are excellent, but they're Netchoice's lawyers, not ours: we have to figure out our obligations ourselves. I am so very thankful that even though we are poor in money, we are very rich in friends, and we have a wide range of people we can go to for help.)

In cases where Netchoice filed the lawsuit before the law's effective date, there's a pending motion for a preliminary injunction, the court hasn't ruled on the motion yet, and we're specifically named in the motion for preliminary injunction as a Netchoice member the law would apply to, we generally evaluate that the risk is low enough we can wait and see what the judge decides. (Right now, for instance, that's Netchoice v Jones, formerly Netchoice v Miyares, mentioned in our December news post: the judge has not yet ruled on the motion for preliminary injunction.) If the judge grants the injunction, we won't need to do anything, because the state will be prevented from enforcing the law. If the judge doesn't grant the injunction, we'll figure out what we need to do then, and we'll let you know as soon as we know.

I know it's frustrating for people to not know what's going to happen! Believe me, it's just as frustrating for us: you would not believe how much of my time is taken up by tracking all of this. I keep trying to find time to update [site community profile] dw_advocacy so people know the status of all the various lawsuits (and what actions we've taken in response), but every time I think I might have a second, something else happens like this SC law and I have to scramble to figure out what we need to do. We will continue to update [site community profile] dw_news whenever we do have to take an action that restricts any of our users, though, as soon as something happens that may make us have to take an action, and we will give you as much warning as we possibly can. It is absolutely ridiculous that we still have to have this fight, but we're going to keep fighting it for as long as we have to and as hard as we need to.

I look forward to the day we can lift the restrictions on Mississippi, Tennessee, and now South Carolina, and I apologize again to our users (and to the people who temporarily aren't able to become our users) from those states.

The Drama     HD720p 32MB
Interesting looking relationship drama about an engaged couple (Zendaya, Robert Pattinson) who is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. Mamoudou Athie and Alana Haim are also part to the cast. Written and directed by Norwegian Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself, Dream Scenario).
An earlier teaser that's very good at keeping you guessing what is going on: HD720p 19MB.
IMDb informs me that this year Zendaya and Pattinson will star in three movies together, the other two being The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three.

Minions & Monsters     HD720p 31MB
First trailer for the third instalment of the Despicable Me spin-off. It's the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.
Looks less funny than previous trailers.

Exit 8 - 8-ban deguchi     HD720p 29MB
Psychological horror thriller from Japan that follows a man trapped in an endless sterile subway passageway as he sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?
Despite apparently being based on a video game, seems well worth a look. Though you may think twice about watching it if you regularly walk alone in empty subway corridors.

Tow     HD720p 31MB
Uplifting drama based on a true story that follows Amanda Ogle (Rose Byrne), a woman living in her aging Toyota Camry on the streets of Seattle. When her car — her only lifeline — is stolen and impounded, she is thrust into a relentless legal battle against an indifferent system. What begins as a fight to reclaim her car evolves into a deeply human story of resilience, dignity, and the power of one woman’s voice in the face of systemic failure. Dominic Sessa, Demi Lovato, Octavia Spencer, Ariana DeBose, Simon Rex and Corbin Bernsen are also part of the cast.
Not that the path of the story is hard to guess, but the trailer already does seem to show a lot.

In the Blink of an Eye     HD720p 31MB
Sci-Fi drama with three storylines, spanning thousands of years, intersect and reflect on hope, connection, and the circle of life. A Neanderthal family, displaced from their home, struggles to survive, protect the children, and use primitive tools. In the present day, a driven post-grad anthropologist (Rashida Jones) studying ancient proto-human remains, begins a relationship with a fellow student (Daveed Diggs). And two centuries later, on a spaceship bound for a distant planet, Coakley (Kate McKinnon) and a sentient onboard computer confront a disease afflicting the ship’s oxygen-producing plants. Directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL·E, John Carter, Finding Nemo).
Looks and feels very emotionally forced. Critics were not kind after its recent Sundance premiere. Will start streaming on Hulu/Disney+ February 27th.

Dreamwidth is absolutely broken for me right now and I have no idea why LOL, but I wanted to make a post because it's been over a month and also I missed out on doing [community profile] snowflake_challenge (which I am a bit sad about...) and ALSO there has been shit going down that pisses me off and if that could be the catalyst that gets me to blog again I would not complain.

2026 has been... something. In many ways!!! But I'm determined to keep on keeping on and to have a good time no matter what... I never did end up making that post looking back on 2025 or whatever it was I wanted to do, but maybe that's for the best in retrospect... I'd still kinda like to write down stuff I'd like to do over 2026 though. So maybe I'll try doing that once, huh... Dreamwidth fixes itself on my end... (If it's still broken tomorrow I'll try to figure that out, or something...)

In light of the ongoing attempts to Crack Down On Pornography I've also been contemplating posting some of that on here, especially stuff I'm not as inclined to share elsewhere right now lawl. So there might be some of that in the future? If there is, rest assured the "worst" of it will be posted under cuts with warnings and probably friends only. So there is that o7

Anyway I picked the worst time to make a post because it's almost 2am and I need to SLEEP but here's a further quick rundown...

1) I'm still so deep in the Corbeau/L mines you guys. Check out the chibi I drew for my [personal profile] candyheartsex letter... I wanted to share it here a month ago and then I never ended up doing it so here it is now!!!

Image

2) THE PROTOMEN ACT III CAME OUT AND I'M STILL FREAKING OUT ABOUT IT INTERNALLYYYYYYYY literally listening to it right now lol. I ordered a physical album but it's going to be delivered to a friend in the US so I won't get it until the summer... Also I was so excited to get it I didn't think to check the rest of the store and now I'm sad I didn't get the The Good Doctor Part 2 poster considering it literally features my ship </3 Maybe I'll try to get it later... But in the meantime you should look at it because it rules...

3) It's [tumblr.com profile] perfworldweek right now!!! Actually saying this made me realize I forgot to advertize it starting on [community profile] fandomcalendar today OOP. Maybe this is what I should do before going to bed actually lmao.

Okay this was chaotic as hell and I have no idea what it's going to look like considering how fucked up this is on my end but hopefully it's not too bad ??? I'll see you later o7 wait before I go you should check out [community profile] pkmnkinkmeme if you haven't seen it yet... Okay now I'm leaving au revoir o7
