I just got a 24-hour ban for saying that you should shoot someone... while playing Fallout 4.
A game where you LITERALLY SHOOT PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.

| Jun. 29th, 2019 05:56 pm ThinkPad Wireless Mouse X1 Bluetooth Pairing (I have to stick this SOMEWHERE!)
ThinkPad Wireless Mouse X1: It has both a dongle AND Bluetooth.
BUT: The mouse doesn't show up on the list of devices when you try to pair it over Bluetooth!
Follow these steps: 1) ON THE MOUSE: Turn off the mouse. 2) ON THE COMPUTER: Go to the Control panel under "Bluetooth & other devices" 3) ON THE COMPUTER: Select "Add Bluetooth or other devices" 4) ON THE COMPUTER: Under "Add a device" select "Bluetooth" 5) ON THE MOUSE: Switch to Bluetooth 6) ON THE MOUSE: Turn on the mouse 7) [and this isn't obvious] ON THE MOUSE: Slide the Bluetooth switch a TINY BIT FARTER and release. This activates pairing! And it's not in the original documentation! 8) ON THE COMPUTER: Select "ThinkPad X1 Mouse" on the list of available devices.
You'd think they'd label the pairing selection better. Or at all. Leave a comment

| Dec. 28th, 2014 02:46 am from Bryce Maryott's Facebook via IFTTT I have decided that: * The Boys From Brazil * Anna to the Infinite Power * Orphan Black all take place in the same universe, and are part of a larger story.

| Jan. 10th, 2011 12:27 pm Lunch Boxes So, I'm back to trying the lunch box thing. I've gotten a nice one from ThinkGeek, but in looking for ideas I've discovered I've been limiting myself in my web searches.
BENTO works decently.
TIFFIN apparently uses a different thought process in the food choices. Must research a bit further.
Wonder what other terms I should use...

| Nov. 26th, 2010 04:12 pm MacBook Pro Okay, lesson one - if you buy a Mac laptop, you have to make sure you are shaved and groomed the very first time you turn it on. Because it takes your picture!
They should warn you about that on the box...

| Oct. 21st, 2010 09:24 am Dear Google Dear Google Mail people:
I know that you can tell if there's bad people accessing my spare eMail account (that I don't really USE) - you have the ID and labeled it "weird" in a big red banner!
So why can't I set up something to block access from China?
No love,

| Sep. 29th, 2010 02:07 pm How DO you pronounce ASO? So there's a site called America Speaking Out that was all about tell in the Republican Party what they should be doing. As I voted for Regan (Yes, I'm that old - no I don't regret it. I remember who he was running against). I put forth my opinions as did many. I just got this in the mail:
( ASOCollapse )
Thing is, if you actually read the points that get the most votes as "this is important" and weed out the crap (lots of biblical quotes and hate speech - neither got too much interest) the things he talks about above really AREN'T what "the little people" think are important.
What a shock. Leave a comment

| Apr. 22nd, 2010 05:07 pm Lost story There's a story about a some business that was looking to mark the boundries of backwoods property they bought. They hired a "city" firm to mark the limits. The firm could only find three of the four markers.
So they were fired and a second firm was hired. Same result.
Finally, the county clerk told them to hire a specific local to mark it.
The local finds in it five minutes and sends them a bill. When the company contests and demands an itemized bill, he replies with "Marking the spot $1000, knowing where it is $4000"
Can anyone identify the story? 4 comments - Leave a comment

| Apr. 17th, 2010 04:53 pm Affiliate link redirection active again SO! If you have an out going link to Amazon (and who knows how many other outgoing links (like to Amazon):
http://www.amazon.com Amazon
If you click, you do get there. You also are losing what's called "affiliate" information and the (LJs buddy) are gaining the info. Basically, if you were making a penny promoting something, it's now going into someone else's pocket. Don't believe it, copy the link target above, then paste it into the something. The link above becomes: http://mouser.livejournal.com/503677.html?dr_log=-1&linkout=http%3A//www.amazon.com/
There are ways to turn it off - if you're logged in as a user. Go here for more info: http://tinyurl.com/y25xnww

| Mar. 20th, 2010 03:52 pm Thoughts on the Kindle I don't own a Kindle. I'm unlikely to, as there are programs for both the PC and the iPhone/iTouch.
Still I've decided there are two major points. They are the ones that are repeated over and over.
Point one - They make impulse buys for books possible again. While they're still way over priced, they're much cheaper then paperbacks. When I had my recent trip to California recently, I "grabbed" several books I hadn't read and was ready to go. And when I finished them I got the next book in the series at the SanDiego airport and which has a crappy gift shop in the terminal. (If you're curious, it was the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. I see why they made it into a series on SciFi [available on Hulu].)
Point two - you can't really share books. I *like* Dresden Files. I'd talk them up and share them. All I can do is talk them up, though. I *can* loan out my iTouch to people, but even those that don't mind reading on the screen are kinda bothered by it. And I can't loan it to someone else through the Kindle system (which would be a REALLY neat feature - "loan" a book and lock it off out of my stuff unless it's "returned" or I "take" it back by removing it from their system...)
I just hope they make the non-device readers suck less. They've got major features missing - no word search, no ability to make "play lists", sort order, etc. 5 comments - Leave a comment

| Mar. 19th, 2010 09:10 pm News on the iPod So I'm looking for news via podcast so I can load it on my iPod and listen while I drive. I'm already listening to Olbermann/Maddox but I'm looking for just a general new podcast. News of the day, that sort of thing. I *had* one, but I accidentally deleted it and can't find the source.
So I search for "News In Brief" and am happily suprised to find something with that description. It's rather short but a video, so I add it and keep looking.
Today I watched it....
...I didn't know the Naked News Network was still in business, let alone they had a free podcast... 2 comments - Leave a comment

| Mar. 4th, 2010 07:50 pm Beyond the veil After many, many years of neglecting her health, my last grandmother passed away last night. We weren't close (my family isn't, which should really shock no one that knows me) but my father and her kind of were. When the arrangements are made, I'll see about going to California for a few days to be with him.
I'm sure some of you have good wishes and kind thoughts. Direct them to the family you don't talk to much so they know that even when you don't talk, you still love them. There is nothing more expensive then regret. Spend that capital on making yourself just a little healthier so you can spend some time with those you're still close to.
And thank you for your thoughts.
