In the wake of this town, in the heart of my town

Haven't posted since 2009, haven't logged in probably just as long, either.

It's nice to see what my 20's self was up to.

34, married, finally moved to California, then finally moved back.

I did OK.

LJ, nice knowing you!

Could this be the end for our trusty LiveJournal? If it is, then thanks for being there for me since 2001.

World Series Game 3 - I was there.

I've had a pretty good year for baseball games.

I've been to about ten Phillies games this year (including game 2 of the NLCS against the Dodgers), and been to games in six other parks (Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Nationals Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Dodger Stadium against the Phillies, Angel Stadium, and Petco Park).

But last night was by far, the best sports experience of my life. I went to Game 3 of the World Series. Imageamurderofone was lucky enough to snag tickets from the Phillies lottery, and I did not hesitate to say yes when he asked if I wanted to come along with him.

We had standing room tickets, which I really didn't mind -- I knew just being at the park for the World Series would be an amazing experience. All week we knew that the weather would be a factor, since thunderstorms were forecasted for Saturday night. At the very least, we knew that the game would be rain delayed -- in a worst case scenario, it would be pushed back a day.

Despite this, we still got to Citizens Bank Park at 5 PM (for a scheduled 8:30 start). This was especially crucial since we wanted to snag good standing room spots. One of the best things about the park is that the sightlines are great everywhere, as the concourses open up to the playing field. You could literally watch the game while standing in line for a hot dog and beer. With this in mind, we got to the park at 5 PM and set up shop behind section 122 which was located pretty much behind home plate. Kind of funny that our standing room tickets were $50 face value ($700 on Stubhub) and the seats that were 4 feet in front of us were $225 face value (upwards of $3000 on Stubhub).

When we got there, yeah, it was raining really hard. But we were all in good spirits, and under cover, so the rain itself didn't affect us -- we were just worried about how the hell to kill so much time. We stood there, and stood there some more. It also dropped from about 65 degrees to 45 degrees in this time too, which we in Philadelphia certainly aren't used to at a baseball game. We never play this late in October.

After three and a half hours of standing around before the scheduled start, and another hour and a half of rain delays, the game finally started just after 10 PM. Most of you have seen the game already and know what happened, but "Clutch" Carlos Ruiz was my hero of the game, with a solo HR to break a tie in the 2nd inning and a walk off infield single in a 9th inning where the Rays had FIVE INFIELDERS. And yeah, the game ended at 1:47 PM and not a single person left early.

We're now two wins away from a World Series championship for the first time in my lifetime.

I took a bunch of pictures and videos from the game, including some of the deafening "GARZA! GARZA!" and "EVA! EVA!" chants, which I will upload shortly.

NLCS!

The NLCS begins tonight... Philadelphia is absolutely crazy right now. This city and I have our ups and downs, but it's times like this that I'm glad to be here.

I have tickets to game 2 of the NLCS tomorrow afternoon. I just bought them on Stubhub, which I've now used twice in the past 45 days (I used it to go to a Yankees game over Labor Day weekend against Toronto). While it DID cost $153 a ticket for three tickets, it's actually less than I was willing to pay to be part of this crazy experience. It's happened only one other time in my life (the Phillies went to the World Series in 1993, when I was in 6th grade) and I'm just really grateful to be a part of this.

I'll be in Pittsburgh this weekend. The only thing we have planned is a trip to Fallingwater on Sunday morning. To anyone in that city, or if you've visited, give me some ideas on what to do!

A NEW CAR!

2009 Scion tC!

Thanks to my friend Dan at the Turnersville Auto Mall, yesterday I made my first new car purchase. Before this, I was driving the same car that I was driving when I got my license -- 9 years ago. But the transmission is on its way out, so it was time to cut my losses.

It was a lot better buying the car from him rather than a random salesman. It's a lot easier buying a car when you are friends with the person selling it to you and knowing that you aren't going to get ripped off at any point in the process. Plus, Scion has a "pure price" policy which means that what's on the sticker is what you pay. That helped a lot too.

But I love this car so far! I actually have POWER WINDOWS, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, iPod integration with the stereo (I can control it from the head unit or the steering wheel), and a panoramic sunroof! Plus I think it looks cool as hell. It's been a joy to drive, with a 2.4L 161-hp engine which provides decent pickup while still getting respectable gas mileage. It gets 29/21, but I drive pretty softly so I'm hoping to get better than those averages.

In my car research, I was really eyeing the Mazda3 for a while. But when comparing feature to feature, the tC ended up offering most of the same features (and then some), for $2,000 less. It was a no brainer at that point.

In related news, because I was buying a new car, and because I don't really live with my parents anymore, I also decided it was time to get my own auto insurance policy. That required registering this new car in Pennsylvania. And THAT required a Pennsylvania drivers license. So, sorry NJ, but after "secretly" living in Philadelphia for there years, I made it official last week.

Does anybody here use Twitter? I'm trying to build up my little Twitter network. Add me to your contacts if you use it!

Also, every time I try spelling it, I end up with "Titter" or "Twister".

Reggie and Kelly sing the hits

In the past week, Kelly and I spent too much time in cars while galavanting throughout Southern California. This is what happens when your camera also takes movies.

If you want to see pictures of our week, carry on.

day 5 and 6
Imagemoviescriptend
Day 5: Driving day, so we did not take many pictures. Drove from Costa Mesa in Orange County over to Hollywood. Got lunch at the Farmer's Market, and dinner at the 3rd Street Promenade, not much else happened. We tried celeb stalking at The Grove, but it didn't quite work out. Instead, the best I got was a guy that only bore a passing resemblance to Don Imus.

Day 6: Drove to Malibu in a futile attempt to find Britney Spears. Stopped in a CVS in Malibu where I bought green tea, and Kelly bought the new US Weekly. Went to In-N-Out in Culver City for lunch, then went to the Target in West Hollywood where we bought salsa and chips, and also saw Bumblebee from the Transformers movie. The night ain't over yet!

Tomorrow, our last attempt at celebrity stalking on Rodeo Drive, record shopping at Amoeba, and eating hot dogs at Pink's.

Day 3 and day 4

Day 3: Checked out of the hotel in San Diego. Stopped at Cardiff-By-The-Sea, which is a great little beach... got lunch at the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, then saw a Ducks vs Red Wings game at night in Anaheim.

Day 4: I needed a jacket, so we went to Fashion Island in Newport and I got one at the Original Penguin store. It was $98 marked down to $52. Holla! Then we went to Huntington Beach (Surf City USA), and visited the world famous Huntington Beach Pier, and bought the most incredibly tacky 1980s California postcards you can imagine. Some of you may be getting these in the next few days. We also narrowly avoided exploding in a gas leak. Adventures abound in California!

Today, we leave the OC behind for the City of Angels where we will be until Saturday. Commence celebrity stalking!
