Commander Gwendolyn D. Worthy, M.S., is a distinguished leader and a tireless advocate for Black Veterans across the nation. As a proud U.S. Air Force veteran and the first female National Commander of the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS), she brings a wealth of experience, strategic vision, and unwavering dedication to her role.
Commander Worthy’s career is rooted in a lifelong commitment to service. Her background in military and government operations underscores her expertise in organizational leadership and the delivery of essential services. Recognized by Marquis Who’s Who in America for both 2024 and 2025, she exemplifies professional excellence and civic responsibility.
Her academic accomplishments, including a master’s degree in organizational management and leadership and ongoing doctoral studies, reflect a continuous pursuit of knowledge and growth. Beyond her professional achievements, she is an active volunteer, promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity, further reinforcing her role as a changemaker in both veteran and civilian communities.
As National Commander of NABVETS, Ms. Worthy is committed to fostering unity and collaboration. Her leadership aims to empower regional chapters and amplify their collective impact, ensuring that the voices and needs of all Veterans are heard and addressed. Seeing the difficulties Black Veterans faced in accessing healthcare and other VA benefits, we were formed to serve as advocates to ensure they receive all benefits and services to which they are entitled.
Our diverse projects and programs, developed in harmony with community insights, aim to address the multifaceted challenges veterans face.
NABVETS was established to bridge the gap between Veterans’ needs and community resources, fostering an environment of mutual support.
Through community collaborations, we provide holistic support to Veterans, ensuring their skills and experiences are celebrated and utilized within our neighborhoods.
NABVETS plays a crucial role in offering a wide range of resources and support. Through our programs and services, we address the unique challenges faced by Veterans, such as access to VA benefits and services, employment/business opportunities, educational assistance, and housing. We foster a strong sense of community, advocacy, and mentorship. The resources provided help enhance the overall well-being and success of Veterans.
