On March 7, 2011 at 8:18am, we welcomed Eleanor Shuet-Yun Eng into our family. She weighed 8 lbs 3oz and was 21" long. She ate well and slept well and didn't vomit all over the place like her Big Sister. Breastfeeding was challenging for the first 2 months but we finally grew into it.
It was difficult choosing her name... once again we wanted 3 syllables, doesn't end in the letter "a", and not a name of anyone we knew. I liked the nickname "Ellie" and had to decide on a name to go with it so I chose Eleanor. Brian liked the name "Coraline" (because it was sort of like a 3-syllable version of "Quorra" from the Tron movie) but it reminded me of the dark (and disturbing?) Tim Burton movie (think rag doll with button eyes). Brian was finally ok with the name "Eleanor" after a friend mentioned that was the name of THE car in Nicolas Cage's movie "Gone in 60 Seconds. (What IS it with guys and cars?). So I guess you can say our 2nd daughter is named after a fictional
1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500.
Ellie's middle name was easier... the first character is her last name. The 2nd character is the same as the 2nd character as her older sister, which translates to "snow". The 3rd character I asked my parents to choose. See, how easy is that? =) It's pronounced "Yun" and means "happy". She is definitely one happy (and smiley) baby!
Special thanks to the Eng Grandparents and Poon Grandparents for coming to stay with us for a few weeks each! Couldn't have survived the first few months without you!
Here are some pics of Eleanor's arrival and first month of life:
