*Character Name: Ratchet
*Character Canon: Transformers: Prime
*Age: Pretty damn old. THOUSANDS.
*Race: Cybertronian
*Timeline/Pull Point: Post-Predacons Rising
*History: Here
*Personality:
Ratchet calls himself an old medic, and he couldn’t be farther from the truth. While he maybe an old pile of bolts, he still shines in more ways than one. With his rough exterior, there is a tender spark within the Autobot. This can be noted within canon, when he first came to earth, all the way to the end of the series and movie. At first, he despised human technology. He often grew frustrated with it. That was until three kids came along to change his outlook on humans as a whole. Ratchet didn’t appreciate little beings running around at his feet, with the possibility of one of them going ‘squish’. But as time progressed, Ratchet started to take note of how smart and strong these little life forms were becoming. And in time, he took them in as teammates, and even family.
At first, upon meeting Ratchet, almost anyone would note his gruff exterior. He is an introverted type of cybertronian, finding excitement in new formulas, such as Synthetic energon, or helping humans with their science projects (when really he did all the work himself, ushering the children to leave it up to him). When he’s engrossed in something, he dismisses others around him, wanting to concentrate on the matter at hand.
He is very smart, but he rarely gets to see the battle field. However, when he does, he can certainly deal some damage to his opponents, and can fight like any other warrior class. But he is primarily a medic, aiding his teammates whenever they are injured. He tries his best to heal them, but when he can’t fix an injury or solve a problem, it sticks with him for a long time. That was apparent as to when Bumble Bee lost his voice box. Ratchet was not able to recover a new one for him when Megatron had ripped it out of the poor scout. While Ratchet couldn't fix his voice box, he helped the young Autobot recover.
Most importantly, Ratchet is loyal. While he might be a grump, he does think positively for his team. While things might look dark for them, he attempts to think of the most effective solution. And he would never leave one of the Autobots behind in the middle of a crisis situation. He had been fighting in a war long before he made it to Earth, and he had lost plenty of teammates back then. Ratchet wouldn't let that happen here again on Earth. His loyalty is engraved into his spark. Even when he was on Megatron’s ship, working for him, he aimed to sabotage the Decepticons attempts to take over Earth.
When it comes to new people, it takes a lot of time to build up this old bot’s trust. He has a small family for a reason, because he can rely on each and every one of them, like they do with him and his medical expertise. He may get along with people in his own field, but he usually works alone, so that will be something to adjust to if it calls for teamwork with people he barely knows.
While he’s hard on the outside, this Autobot has a heart of gold under that old shell of his, and he could save your life one day.
*Powers/Abilities:
Medical and science knowledge
Ratchet knows a lot about Cybertronian biology as well as the science behind most Cybertronian devices and anomalies. He’ll find himself usually engrossed in one of these two fields most of the time.
His medical knowledge is mostly limited to cybertronians. He has learned a few things about humans and how they work as well, thanks to Jack's mother who is a nurse. He learned how fragile humans were, especially when Raf, a young boy, was infected by dark energon. But he has only scraped the surface of human biology. With other robots, he could possibly with their medical needs. Ratchet is familiar with machines and creates his own machinery when he feels it's needed for his practices.
With this knowledge, he is very experienced with it. However, there are always new things in which rear their ugly heads in these two fields that could leave him stumped. That's where he may need to depend on the aid of other bots, after every resource has been exhausted.
Alternate Mode
Being a Cybertronian Autobot, he has the ability to take on a vehicle mode, which is an ambulance. It’s often fast and makes for a quick getaway for him.
Fighting abilities
Having been in the civil war on his home planet of Cybertron, Ratchet also has the ability to fight. There would have been many times when Decepticon forces would try and take out some of the medics, in order to weaken the Autobots forces. Often times, he can be seen fighting with large knifes, similar to scalpels, that appear when they take place of his hands.
*Inventory: He's just coming with the metal on his back. His whole being pretty much. I suppose you could include his health/healing scanner and his knives/guns he uses in battle. These are innate weapons he can make appear, to assist him in battle.
For the scanner, perhaps it could only find current ailments on certain robots only? Essentially it can tell if parts are missing from a Cybertronian or a part is damaged within one. But it wouldn't have the ability to heal anyone obviously. It's totally up to you guys!
*Starting Polarity: Surprise me! I don’t mind you guys choosing.

[The feed flickers to life and Ratchet peers into the communicator he has, tinkering with it.]
Blasted thing. My communications aren’t working. It must be scattered or something. [The video flickers and Ratchet smacks it a few more times, to make it focus again, grumbling under his breath as he looks around.]
Ultra Magnus, Bumble Bee… if anyone can hear this, I need help. This place it… looks like Cybertron but it’s different. I don’t know of you can triangulate my communications and find my exact location or not, but… Oh, what am I saying?
[He rubs at his face, his mind raking for ideas.]
What if this is some kind of… alternate dimension? Like that Shadow Zone the children ended up in. [He shudders at the mere thought of it.]
For all I know, I could be just talking to myself.

The last thing he remembered were Sparks. Sparks raining over all of Cybertron. It was both a beautiful and a horrific sight to the medic of the Autobots. He sat in his new medbay, having been keeping to himself these past few days. Organizing and cleaning up his new area did little to distract him from what had happened.
He lifted his gaze to the new monitors humming to life, his brows furrowed as his chest felt heavy. His lips pursed tightly as he let his hand slide across the console, hearing it beep. His arm swung by his side before he settled into his chair at his new desk. Bits and pieces of new projects, in which he had worked on earth sat on the surface of the desk, staring up at Ratchet expectantly. Ratchet’s heavy tired optics glanced over to the items and suddenly memories flooded his mind, back to whenever he was working on them. Talking with Optimus. Spending time with their leader. He almost froze.
This was it. Optimus was really gone. There would be no miraculous revival. No new and improved Optimus like what happened when their base on Earth was destroyed. That was it. His Spark no longer existed with them, and he was now one with the All Spark. His hand reached down, shakily taking up a piece of one of the projects, holding with care, as if it would shatter.
This was all he had left. Memories of his great leader. His teammate. His friend. What were they supposed to do without him? His sacrifice hit them all hard, and they were almost scrambling. But what would Optimus say now? The Autobots still hung onto one another, they were family. But without their brave and fearless leader, it was earthshattering for them all. They supported one another.
But Ratchet couldn’t face them. Not like this. He needed time for his own personal grieving. The medic wasn’t openly vulnerable like this among peering optics. Ratchet let out a shaky sigh.
“Optimus,” he said aloud, holding that small piece of metal in his hand, his voice almost cutting out.
“Why did it have to end like this? If we had more time, we could have figured out a way to save you. You didn’t have to—“
Ratchet’s optics widened as he suddenly saw the piece of metal in his hand suddenly snap at the sudden pressure his hands had brought. He gasped and tried to grab the falling pieces, only to watch them shatter into smaller pieces across the floor. The old bot fell to his knees and hastily raked the pieces in close, gathering them up into both of his hands.
He held the broken pieces close to his chest, letting out a half choked sob.
