CHARACTER NAME: Ratchet
AGE: SOMEWHAT OLD in cybertronian years, probably early to mid 40s in human years.
CANON: Transformers: Prime
CANON POINT: Post-Predacons Rising
FAMILY TYPES:
Dragon Roar: He’s part of this family due to the fact that he is very rash and outspoken. He is very stubborn when it comes to his choices he makes, and never seems to back down from them. While he might have people’s best intentions in mind, sometimes when situations are dire, he makes the wrong choice. But for the most part, he fights his hardest for his teammates, pretty much his family and those who are closest to him. He fights in both a physical and a medical sense of the word. Nor would he let anything bad happen to his fellow teammates, whom of which he considers to be family.
Virus Buster: While Ratchet has a tough exterior, he does have the ability to do what’s right and donates to a good cause. He knows when things are not right, and when to act in good favor of himself and others. He fights for the sake of good, and will never back down from a fight unless all other resources have been exhausted to their full extent.
Metal Empire: Ratchet is a very introverted as a being, and is rather distant to those of whom he is not close to. He is also a robot... man, who thinks on his toes and works with calculations. This family fits him as well, since it takes a while for Ratchet to open up to others, having such a hard shell in order to break into in the first place.
Nature Spirits: I wanted to pick a family that actually contrasts against Ratchet. While this class isn't very picky, Ratchet is rather peculiar as to how he operates. Not only that but Ratchet is very loud and will voice his own opinion if need be. He's very introverted, but if he were to have a more outgoing partner, maybe they will help them open up to people as time progresses.
APPEARANCE:
Being an ‘old bot’ it certainly will be reflected within his new human appearance here. He will be pretty stocky in appearance, having rather broad shoulders and a heavier build than most humans, having been in a war for so long on Cybertron and Earth itself. He’ll be around 5’11”, taller than the average human. He will be a ginger, reflecting his previous robot appearance with red ambulance colors, along with a bit of stubble on his chin. Anyone can see that his age is already coming into his hair, gray hair sprinkled at the ends of his sideburns. And he has some pretty thick eyebrows to boot. His eyes are of a bright blue color, reflecting how his robot body used to be coursing with fresh energon, which was their life force.
His attire will consist of a jacket of a light gray color, with red accents, a white dress shirt, and dark gray pants with large pockets (in order to hold medical supplies), also with red accents. Most of his attire is consistent with the color palette of his previous robotic form.
PERSONALITY:
Ratchet calls himself an old medic, and he couldn’t be farther from the truth. While he maybe an old pile of bolts, he still shines in more ways than one. With his rough exterior, there is a tender spark within the Autobot. This can be noted within canon, when he first came to earth, all the way to the end of the series and movie. At first, he despised human technology. He often grew frustrated with it. That was until three kids came along to change his outlook on humans as a whole. Ratchet didn’t appreciate little beings running around at his feet, with the possibility of one of them going ‘squish’. But as time progressed, Ratchet started to take note of how smart and strong these little life forms were becoming. And in time, he took them in as teammates, and even family.
At first, upon meeting Ratchet, almost anyone would note his gruff exterior. He is an introverted type of cybertronian, finding excitement in new formulas, such as Synthetic energon, or helping humans with their science projects (when really he did all the work himself, ushering the children to leave it up to him). When he’s engrossed in something, he dismisses others around him, wanting to concentrate on the matter at hand.
He is very smart, but he rarely gets to see the battle field. However, when he does, he can certainly deal some damage to his opponents, and can fight like any other warrior class. But he is primarily a medic, aiding his teammates whenever they are injured. He tries his best to heal them, but when he can’t fix an injury or solve a problem, it sticks with him for a long time. That was apparent as to when Bumble Bee lost his voice box. Ratchet was not able to recover a new one for him when Megatron had ripped it out of the poor scout. While Ratchet couldn't fix his voice box, he helped the young Autobot recover.
Most importantly, Ratchet is loyal. While he might be a grump, he does think positively for his team. While things might look dark for them, he attempts to think of the most effective solution. And he would never leave one of the Autobots behind in the middle of a crisis situation. He had been fighting in a war long before he made it to Earth, and he had lost plenty of teammates back then. Ratchet wouldn't let that happen here again on Earth. His loyalty is engraved into his spark. Even when he was on Megatron’s ship, working for him, he aimed to sabotage the Decepticons attempts to take over Earth.
When it comes to new people, it takes a lot of time to build up this old bot’s trust. He has a small family for a reason, because he can rely on each and every one of them, like they do with him and his medical expertise. He may get along with people in his own field, but he usually works alone, so that will be something to adjust to if it calls for teamwork with people he barely knows.
When working along side this 'old bot', he can either be of great use, or a pain in someone's side. Ratchet can often be found working on projects, working intently. But when others interrupt him, he can become irritable. This is probably due to his concentration being broken. He likes to be on track, and doesn't like to stray from the task at hand. For example, he got irritable whenever Wheeljack first called him 'Doc'. If anything, he first wanted Wheeljack to give him respect, especially when working along side him for the first time.
Often, when stuck on the sidelines with his medical expertise, Ratchet feels the need to help out his teammates even more. Not only does he feel useless as a medic, for not being in actual battle, but he also feels as though his age is slowing down his teammates. He tried to once remedy that by creating Synthetic Energon. In other words, it was like steroids for robots. Unfortunately, Ratchet was too eager to please his teammates, having used an unstable form of the substance. For the most part, he had learned his lesson. However, some of those thoughts will still linger within him, especially due to the fact in which he will become human.
His old age does make him a little senile. He doesn't want to be seen as weak and useless, as somewhat exained above. He likes to do things his own way, and will often times shoo others away, unless he is in battle. Because then, he is more than willing to fight beside his teammates to the very end. The only time he will shoo others away is when he's working on projects or trying to solves a particular problem. He's been the only medic on his team for many many years. Ratchet doesn't want others wasting their time trying to figure out an equation when he can do it all himself in a less amount of time.
Science is his main priority, along with medical knowledge. For example, in one episode, Ratchet helps the human children with their science experiments. This is where his trait of being a 'control freak' comes to light. When the humans, and their respective robots ask Ratchet if they could help on these projects, he insists that they leave him to work on them alone. Obviously, the robot was intent on showing on his intelligence to the humans within their science projects. Of course, these were the human's projects; Jack, Miko, and Raf's projects to be exact. He wanted them to do well on their projects, while projecting his own intellect into the projects, which reflected cybertronian mechanics along with astrology. It really depends on what kind of situation he's in when this side of him emerges. But if it deals with Ratchet being able to show off his intelligence, he'd rather do it alone than work with others.
While he’s hard on the outside, this Autobot has a heart of gold under that old shell of his, and he could save your life one day.
HISTORY: Here.
SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON:
[A man comes onto the screen, looking like he’s shoving something out of view of the camera. He looks to be a little older than most, a little gray around the edges. But he addresses the device with urgency.]
Whoever is receiving this message, my name is Ratchet. I’m originally from Cybertron, and I was an Cybertronian and now I’m.. I’m this! [He gestures to himself, rather erratically.]
If anyone from Cybertron can hear me, please try and lock onto my coordinates. Use the space bridge if you have to.
[He soon looks off screen and shoves at whatever it was. It seems to protest, but it’s rather muffled.]
And whoever lost their pet, they can have it back! It won’t stop following me!
But Ratchet--!!
And how it knows my name is beyond me.
Again, if anyone can hear me, Bumble Bee, Arcee, Bulkhead… I acquire assistance immediately.
[And the feed cuts out with Ratchet yelling at the poor digimon to get away.]
THIRD PERSON:
When Ratchet awoke, he didn’t quite expect what he saw. He stood up shakily as he rubbed his head. Just what on Cybertron had happened to him? He was working in the med bay when all of a sudden, he fell into what he thought was stasis. As his vision adjusted, he noticed that everything was bigger, and closer to his own size. Strange. He took in a deep breath, but he flinched as he felt air pass his lips instead of his vents. His eyes lowered as he looked down at his hands.
He fell backwards with a loud drawn out shout. No. No he couldn’t be. Ratchet patted down his chest as he stared down at himself. Clothes. Skin. His hands run up onto his head. Hair. He could hear his new heart pounding his chest in anxiety as he slowly crawled to his knees.
“Calm yourself. This. This has gotta be a dream. A trick! Some kind of holoform like Arcee has.”
Swallowing hard, the medic found a nearby lake, in which he crawled up to. He peered into the sparkling clear water to see himself. A square jaw, similar to how his robotic form was, red hair, a bit of stubble. Ratchet lifted his hand, only to see his reflection respond accordingly. His hand flinched back as he used it to support himself, leaning further in to get a better look at his face.
“This isn’t a dream. This…” Ratchet’s bright blue eyes widened as he noticed something else waddling up beside him. It was brightly colored, cute, and seemed to look at him through the reflection in the water. Whatever it was, it smiled at him and piped up.
“Hello Ratchet!”
Ratchet gasped and scrambled back a few feet, only to sit back on his rear. His breathing was fast again, but he fought to keep it under control. What was that thing? And… why was he an organic? Why.. Why any of this? He threw his hand out at the creature, expecting for his knives to appear in lace of his hand but the creature only stared at the man dumdfound. Ratchet wriggled his hand a few more times before it registered in his hand that he had none of his original abilities anymore.
Ratchet shook his head, holding either side of it. His mind was flying a mile a minute with questions, but that was until he felt something approach him. His eyes redirected themselves at the creature and he quickly stood up to give them some distance again.
“What are you?!” he demanded as he he balled his hands into fists, “And where the scrap am I?!”
