Money for Maxwell

 OK I lied. I have to do one more post before I start my February Photo a Day posts so I can tell you about what I did for Maxwells birthday. 

Since his birthday is so close to Christmas (ugh! I sympathize with everyone with a January birthday!) and he got a bunch of gifts already I figured he didn't need any more stuff! 

And when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he couldn't think of a thing. Well, what 9-year-old boy doesn't want money? So that's what we decided to give him. 

But I couldn't just stick some money in a card! That's no fun!

I went to the dollar store and bought a box of tissue and to the bank and withdrew $50 in one-dollar bills. 

Then I taped the bills together end to end.

I rolled them all on a toilet paper roll. 

I opened the side of the tissue box, took out the tissue and put the rolled-up dollar bills in there. I taped the first bill to the top of the box where you open it. Of course I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the box before I glued it shut but you get it, right? The idea was when he opens the top of the tissue box, he can just keep pulling a long line of bills out! 

Then I wrapped it up and prayed it would work like I wanted it to! 

It worked perfectly! He just kept pulling and pulling dollar bills out and everyone loved it!

I would say it was a success and now he can buy whatever he wants! I also was instructed by Levi to do the same thing for him for his birthday in September! 

So Happy Birthday to our sweet 9-year-old!

Happy New Year

 Happy New Year to you all! I was soundly sleeping at midnight! 

I have been working a lot lately, covering for a coworker who's elderly mom is having issues. The paychecks are nice but I need my time off too! 

There is not a lot going on right now. January is a birthday month for us. 

Today is Maxwell's 9th birthday! We will be celebrating him on Saturday. 

Rich turned 70 on the 4th. Shauna, Brad and the boys took us out to lunch. They gave him this card which I thought was cute!

My birthday is on the 12th and I'll be 69. I can hardly believe it! 

In other news, one of the residents where I work gets a lot of little packages delivered to him from Amazon and Temu. We always wondered what he was getting all the time and yesterday when I was delivering another package to him, I found out. 

His refrigerator is covered in magnets! He laughed when I exclaimed over it and gave me permission to take this picture! 

And I thought I had a lot of refrigerator magnets! They make him happy so that's a good thing!

Anyway, this is going to be a short post because I am getting ready to do my February Photo a Day posts! I can hardly believe it's time for that again! This year I actually have a theme!

Christmas Recap

Christmas was nice but very low key. I worked on Christmas Eve and then went to my brothers for our family party. I made 36 of these little hat ornaments in red and green and passed them out to everyone. 

A little Lindorf chocolate fit perfectly inside and they loved them! 

I also made 8 petal pouches with candies inside and gave them out to my friends and co-workers. 

Everybody loved them! I got my crafty on this Christmas and it was fun to do something like that for a change!

All the yarn and all the material for the pouches was thrifted so the most expensive thing was the Lindorf candies that went inside. 

On the 23rd we went to a service at a new to us church that is literally 1/2 mile from our house! It's one of those mega churches. The music and the production was spectacular and it was uplifting, joyful and very spiritual! 

We loved it and will probably keep going there. 

We celebrated Christmas with Shauna, Brad and the boys yesterday. We got the boys an air hockey table. 

So Christmas was fun but I'm glad it's over. I plan to spend this weekend taking everything down which is early for me. I usually wait until after the first of the year. 

We also did a 1000-piece Christmas puzzle and I liked it so much we taped it together. 

We enjoyed doing this one because the back was lettered so it was easy to sort out the puzzle and put it together in order of the letters. 

In other news this is what Max does when I sit on the couch.  

He puts his paw and head on my hand. He'll stay that way as long as I keep my hand there. 

One of the residents at work gave me this bag with some goodies. 

This particular resident gets tons of packages from Amazon and is always giving little gift bags to different people! 

She also has a "garage sale" a couple times a year for all the residents to come and buy anything they want! 

And she's 94 years old!

Next Estate Sale

The next sale I went to was in a beautiful house a few miles from where I live. 

Here's the picture I took. 

And here is the picture I took off of Zillow so you can get a little better idea of what the house looked like on the outside. 

It's a 4-bedroom, 4 bath house that sold in November for $671,000. 

I really liked this house.  There was not a lot of people there for a change, so I was able to get a few pictures.

The kitchen could maybe use some updating, like changing the color of the walls but I loved these glass front cabinets. 

This was one of the bedrooms. The wall mural was so pretty. 

Part of the upstairs hallway. The whole main level had these wood floors except the kitchen which was tiled.  

This is part of the finished walkout basement. There was a whole 'nother house down there! 

My guess is there used to be a pool table under this light.

There were a few interesting things at this sale. 

I really liked this dining set. 

I inquired about it inside. It was already sold and waiting to be picked up. I don't know what they were asking for it, but I seriously would have bought it and replaced my current set! 

I loved these two giant succulent pots.  

They were asking $65 each for them. I have nowhere to put anything like that though! 

I thought these were pretty. 

$15 for the tissue holder and $5 each for the soap pump and cups. So, $30 for the set. 

Pretty Easter decorations, 

The basket was $15. There was no price on the other two pieces, 

This mirror had a button frame. 

I've seen that before. It was appropriate for this room which was a sewing, craft room. It was $15. 

I liked this little storage shelf. 

They were asking $100 for it though! 

 

These light up owls were pretty. 

There was no price on them. 

Here's what I bought at this sale. 

A Santa hat to wear to work. I like that it says Merry Christmas on it. Silver bookends and that grey thing is a Bandi pocket belt. It will come in very handy when I walk outside to hold my phone and my pepper spray! I looked it up and they retail for $35. 

Total spent $3.50! Definitely a score!

I don't know if I'll be posting again before Christmas so Merry Christmas to you and your families! I hope it's filled with good food, family and good friends!

Unplanned Estate Sale

After mentioning a few times that the estate sales are winding down I went to two of them in one week. 

The first one was at a condo that I just happened to run across when I was out doing errands. 

I didn't take a lot of pictures of the actual condo, but I thought the entrance was pretty 

It was not for sale but Zillow estimated it at $375,000. 

There were some interesting things at this sale. 

This side table was interesting.  Compact for a small space

And then both sides opened up to make a bigger table. They wanted $26 for it. I thought about buying it but I already have a table that goes under furniture like that so I passed. 

I used to have this exact set of stacking tables. 

Pretty white piano.

They were asking $250.00. 

These white books looked interesting. 

Each one was geared to some place or some event, like The Story of The San Francisco Earthquake or The Story of The Liberty Bell or The Story of Apollo II.  

Little Disney characters on a carousel. 

They wanted $280.00 for it! 

This is what I bought at this sale. 

A little tea bag holder and a pair of really warm gloves! Total spent: $1.00

Christmas Decor

I'm going very light on the Christmas decorations this year. I just am not feeling it for some reason. That happens every few years! 

But besides the snowmen, I did of course put my miniature tree. and my little deer standing in the snow! 

Here is my new miniature ornament for this year. 

A pretty little angel. 

And our big tree of course. Every year I so enjoy the mornings when I just turn the tree lights on to enjoy with my morning coffee! 

Also the small ceramic tree that my mom made in ceramics class many years ago! 

I keep that one in our bedroom. 

That's pretty much all I have out this time. It's going to be a very low-key Christmas this year!

A cute little miniature Christmas scene! It was already sold. I took the sign off to take the picture. 

The cutest little magazine rack which I should have bought but I didn't! 

This beautiful crystal candle holder. 

 Here's something I've never seen before! A crystal Santa and reindeers! 

This little snowman is a cream and sugar set! It's another thing I wish I had bought but didn't! 

Something else I've never seen before. A stainless-steel wall phone!

Here's something pretty random for this sale. Night vision goggles! 

I could have spent hours digging through but after a while too many people get on my nerves! 

Here's what I bought at this sale. 

Two mirrored coasters, stainless-steel salt and pepper shakers, a glass container and 4 teaspoons! 

Total spent: $6.80

In other news: One of the residents at work has her walker decorated for Christmas. 

I think we should have a walker decoration contest for the residents! That would be fun!
