Nevada State University is excited to share that an official license plate is on the way! Senate Bill 181—sponsored by State Senator Michelee Cruz-Crawford and passed unanimously by the Nevada Legislature—was signed into law by Governor Joe Lombardo this past Friday, officially authorizing the creation of the Nevada State plate.
Proceeds from the license plate will directly support Nevada State’s new athletics program and help address food insecurity among students.
“We’re thrilled to offer our community another way to show their pride and passion for Nevada State,” said Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Nevada State University. “This license plate is more than just a symbol of school spirit—it’s an investment in our students, our athletics, and the future of Nevada.”
The license plate will be available to order through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles Fall of 2025.

On Friday, the NSHE Board of Regents took a major step toward a bold vision set in motion 23 years ago, approving Nevada State University’s first satellite campus in the heart of Downtown North Las Vegas.
In partnership with the City of North Las Vegas, Nevada State will be leasing a new three-story, 30,000-square-foot facility as part of the NLV Gateway development at Lake Mead Blvd. and Las Vegas Blvd. North. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026, with doors opening to students in fall 2027.
We are excited to expand our footprint in a city that’s already central to our student community. In fact, 1 in 5 Nevada State students currently live within five miles of this new campus. The North Las Vegas Campus will make it easier for current and future Scorpions to earn their degrees closer to home, work, and family.
We are deeply grateful to all our partners who made this possible:
- The @cityofnlv and Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown for a bold partnership grounded in shared purpose and opportunity.
- The NSHE (@nvhighered) Board of Regents, including Chair Byron Brooks, Vice Chair Stephanie Goodman, and Regent Amy Carvalho, for unanimously approving the lease agreement.
- Assemblywoman Daniele Monroe-Moreno for securing an appropriation to support this campus, the legislature for their unanimous approval, and Governor @joelombardonv for signing the bill.
- Our faculty, whose leadership will design and shape the programs at the new campus.
- And our generous private donors, including @nvenergy, for investing directly in this campus and our students’ futures.
Nevada State was created to serve Nevada’s communities. This new campus is the next chapter of that promise—and we can’t wait to build it with you, for you.

History was made as Nevada State University’s first women’s flag football team took the field at Allegiant Stadium! Ahead of the Raiders vs. Jaguars game, our student-athletes showcased their talent in a team Black vs. team White scrimmage on one of the biggest stages in sports.
“Moments like these remind us that we’re not just playing games; we’re building history together. We can’t wait to bring that same energy into our season opener February 2026,” Yvonne Wade, Nevada State Athletics Director.
Nevada State is proud of the accomplishments of this trailblazing team and the foundation they’ve laid for future student-athletes. As we celebrate this historic moment with Scorpion pride, we know this is only the beginning. First But Not the Last.

Proud mother and recent Nevada State graduate Jocelyne Acosta recently crossed the stage earning her psychology. 🎓
After becoming a mother at 18, Jocelyne refused to let anything hold her back and was determined to show other teen moms what’s possible with perseverance and self-belief.
“I wanted to prove to myself and other young moms that we’re not limited. We are capable of achieving greatness,” Jocelyne shared.
