ACTUALLY, I MEANT TO SAY IT LIKE THIS: HUSKY BASKETBALL IS AS HOT AS WASABIThu, Mar. 11th, 2004, 12:57 am
this is the first night i get to be in my room, catch up on other homework, and not spend my night in the CSE labs... thankfully that's all done, and mike (lab partner) even got the extra credit done. that is the first frat dude I know who is damn smart... 3.88 GPA, and he was working all night doing ther other CSE project. one of the few frat dudes who actually got accepted into an engineering major. props to him finals coming up next week, and then an EPIC winter quarter will be done... three years ago, who would've thought I would be in college at this age, building a robot, traveling to portland and atlanta for competitions, and having one of the best experiences of my life? SWAT was awesome, still is awesome, and i'm highly inclined to do it again next year... more later Wed, Mar. 10th, 2004, 07:27 am
i just got back an hour ago after working on the digital logic projects from tuesday 4 p.m. ... i have spent waaay too many hours in that lab. fortunately, it's in the new CSE building, meaning nice computers, comfortable chairs, supply of food and drink, good ventilation and lighting... even better, we finished the lab project. curious to know what we did? basically, we implemented parts of the software and hardware to display a key pressed on a key pad onto a computer screen. sounds simple, but think about it-- where would you start? how would you send data between hardware and software? it's not easy, but i've learned a whole bunch about digital systems and the 1's and 0's behind them... pretty cool stuff. hopefully the extra credit that i completed in this all-night will boost me to a 3.8 or even a 3.9. there are too many competitive people in CSE to get a 4.0 after these projects are turned in today, all i have left is a bit of physics homework and then studying for finals, which are now officially 5 days away. i am finding myself not so worried, maybe because i care less about grades and also because i did much better early in the quarter than i did in classes last quarter. the spring break is well-needed, and i hope to be doing fun stuff. time to go update the swat website with some new pictures and videos, so check it out at www.swatrobotics.org ... so there wasn't an update for a while, and i literally do not have anytime to make a good update. but i guess i might as well tell the story now. so we came back from the portland competition today, it was pretty cool, lots of fun. although our robot totally sucked, it didn't matter because we're going to nationals in atlanta regardless via pre-qualification... so we decided to take the regional as our chance to fix the robot and get it ready for nationals, because we can't touch the robot until the next competition... the whole spirit of FIRST and FIRST's mission really was visible at the event, and i really felt like it could significantly impact the hundreds of high schoolers there... basically, these robotics competitions are to show kids that science and technology is cool and interest them to be engineers. at first i didn't really believe in this, but being at the competition these past three days, which was in a real stadium, and with fans hollering and teams beating, and some seriously INTENSE robot action -- better than battle bots -- and the whole feel of a sporting even really does change people's lives. i know that as each day i do something related to SWAT robotics, i am learning alot and have the chance to do something positive. videos and pics will be posted soon on our site, but wait for nationals-- that's where the real party will be. we'll be at the Georgia Dome, where michael vick and the FALCONS run n' gun... 250 teams will be there, the competition will be off the hook. in other news, i am falling seriously behind in classes, and it will take a miracle to pull myself out of this hole. good thing i'm doing relatively well in physics so my monday midterm isn't as crucial, but i am worried that i won't be able to figure out my massive cse project due monday, along with the cse lab project also do monday. cheer me on! time to finish the physics notes. adieu! so no updates for a while, but here's one. on friday, i slept from 12:00 - 2:00, then from 7 p.m. - 1:30 a.m., then saturday morning i slept from 4 a.m. - 1:30 p.m... obviously i WASN'T tired from the 6 weeks of building the robot, and the fact that i didn't sleep till 6 a.m. on the previous 6 nights. i have a whole bunch of homework and other things to make up because we're heading down to portland next weekend, so i'll have to miss class on thursday and friday :-( but i think i'll have a ton of fun not much else happening... later for now Tue, Feb. 24th, 2004, 08:46 pm
so not a whole lot happening even though there should be. i guess people are procrastinating the fact that our robot is still not completed... but like i said before, procrastination is human nature. tomorrow will be THE night of miracles, because the robot ships on thursday... after that, only minor changes and problems can be fixed. stay put for updates on what miracles happen. next weekend we're heading down to portland for the regional competition... should be exciting and awesome, because regardless of how we do, we're still going to nationals in atlanta. played basketball today, our team had a MASSIVE comeback run-- four times our team was down by 6 points or so, and in the end, we were down 46-39 (playing to 50 points)... we scored 11 points in a row to come back and win. so we're 3-1 and one win away from the playoffs, which theoretically should be happening now but isn't. anyway, time to read about Finite State Machines and other FUN FUN FUN things. adios Sun, Feb. 22nd, 2004, 11:17 pm
just about to leave the CSE lab after successfully completing the digital logic homework... this was one fo the few homeworks that i actually learned alot by doing it! much better than lecture and the book! hopefully this week's friday quiz won't be so bad... only 4 days left till we ship the robot, and then the past six weeks, which really seem like six months, will have reached a fun, exhilirating, exhausting, ending. it's the final run, and we've got a robot that's going to steal thunder... !!! after that, i'll finally get to go home and relax just a bit, but not much because next weekend i'm heading to portland for the regional competition in portland. ok, going to head back to sieg and help out where i can. we're working on the controls board so it can be tested, let's see what happens. i'm out. |
