About the challenge
The 7th Annual NSBEHacks Challenge
This year, NSBEHacks invites participants to explore the mindful integration, use, and creation of artificial intelligence (AI) to solve pressing challenges. With the theme “AI with Purpose,” we challenge participants to design projects where AI is not just a tool but a transformative force, solving problems that would be otherwise impossible without it.
Participants are encouraged to focus on intentional and ethical uses of AI, creating solutions that demonstrate unique value derived from AI technologies.
Contestants do not need experience in creating AI algorithms; rather demonstrating how they can be used will suffice.
Requirements
What to Build
Your design may fall under one of the following categories
Generative AI: Leveraging AI to create media such as audio, text, images, and video.
Predictive AI: Using AI to forecast events or outcomes for preventative or proactive actions, such as climate risk analysis or personalized medicine.
Security AI: Implementing AI for enhanced protection, including facial recognition, breach detection, and anomaly identification.
Assistive AI: Tools that augment human capabilities, such as accessibility devices or cognitive aids for education and work.
Optimizing AI: Systems designed to improve efficiencies in processes like supply chains, energy consumption, or urban planning.
What to Submit
Submit a 2 min video pitching your design before 12 on Sunday!

Judging Criteria
-
Wow factor
How creative has the group been in solving the challenge? Is the solution impactful to the target users (Will development be beneficial to the black community)? Is it unique? Is it remarkable that someone could achieve this hack in just a day? -
Execution
Does the hack work? Is the hack testable? The hack does not have to be perfect or production ready, but does the idea come to life with their demo? -
Design
Did the group consider the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX)? How well designed is the demo? How are the graphics, or how is the human-computer interaction? Is it easy to use or does it require a lot of training to master the demo? -
The Pitch
Was the video engaging, well-organized, convincing, and appropriate? Were the problem and solution thoroughly explained? Was the reasoning well justified? Is the audience clearly communicated? Was it short and concise (max 2 mins). -
Ethical Considerations
Is human interaction considered in the solution? Have unintentional impacts been considered? Does the AI component (if any) add value to the solution (does it need to be AI)? Have biases in the system been considered? Sustainability considerations?
