Indiana law allows drivers to take the Driver Safety Program (DSP) if they accumulate multiple traffic convictions, accidents, or points within a short period. Drivers with two or more convictions in 12 months—or under-21 drivers with multiple convictions, accidents, or both—may be required by the BMV to complete the DSP within 90 days, or risk license suspension. Accumulating 18 or more points within two years can also lead to suspension or revocation.
After completing an approved DSP, the BMV applies a 4-point credit to the driver’s record, which may help reinstate a suspended license. All Indiana drivers may also take the DSP voluntarily without waiting for a BMV notice, and the same 4-point credit applies. This credit can be earned once every three years and may help prevent suspension, lower insurance rates, and protect driving privileges. Driving records are typically updated 7–10 business days after course completion.
