Hello lovely Festividder! Thank you for making me a vid!  (And a very warm welcome to those who just like looking at people's letters.)

I honestly wasn't going to sign up to actually take part in Festivids this year - 2020, what can you do - but then people nominated some awesome things that I love so here I am once again...

But in this year of all years, please make the vid that brings you joy to make it, whatever that may be, and I promise it will bring me joy to watch it.  :)

Music-wise, I am totally open to anything - and I mean anything, if you're maybe thinking something's too wacky and off the wall, or too cheesy or over-vidded, I am completely the person to try it out on.

I don't have any physical triggers, and there's nothing in any of these sources I'd rather you avoided.  I've gone for mostly kind of warm, joyful things in my requests, but if you want to do something that's critical instead of celebratory, or that does something a bit deeper or unusual, go for it, I'd be excited to see it!  If you want to use outside source, I'm happy with that too.  I would please ask though to please make sure you warn for anything (in song lyrics or outside source) that one wouldn't expect for one of these sources? (i.e. anything like graphic or sexual violence, animal harm, police brutality, racist/sexist/queerphobic imagery or language etc. - can't imagine it would come up for any of these requests, but you never know!)

Otherwise, these are all sources that bring me joy, and if you can capture a bit of that joy in vid form or give me feels you will make me very happy indeed. <3

Maid Marian and her Merry Men

Rewatched it all very recently and yep, still brilliant, still one of my favourite ever tv shows!  Marian is particularly fabulous but so much love for the whole gang and just the whole look and feel and madcap zaniness of the show. I love it to pieces but can't take it too seriously, so something completely ridiculous or off the wall would really work for me here. But if you want to take it seriously, that's good too. :D I love how tough and smart Marian is and how she never stops trying to be a hero despite being surrounded by incompetents who don't understand her vision.

Not really sure why I've requested this one again, except that I've never seen a great vid for this show and I feel like it was such a lovely, ridiculous wee thing of joy that it deserves one.  It's, once again, a source that's effing hard to vid, so if you already had a vid idea in mind, please make that!  If you want inspiration though: Debbie, juggling her two lives?  Negatus and his demons and their incompetent but vaguely endearing evil?  (LOVE the demons.)  An ensemble vid, with the general madness of Yonderland?  Minimal Stephen Fry would be great, because...yeah.

I love all kinds of vids in all kinds of genres - fun, sad, meaningful, silly, critical, celebratory, fast cuts, slow cuts, no effects, lots of effects... - and ditto music, my tastes are varied and eclectic and I love discovering new music as well as old favourites.  Vid what makes you happy, whatever works for you works for me!

There's also nothing in any of these sources that I'd prefer you avoid - and these are all shows or films that I love a LOT, so if you want to focus on something or someone I've not mentioned here, go for it!  I love surprises too.

After Debbie Reynolds' passing in December, I really wanted to make tamcranver  the Kathy vid she'd requested.  Alas, I then ran into the huge problem that there's virtually no footage of Kathy as an individual or her own journey in the movie.  (I mean, I knew there wasn't much but I was shocked to realise there's pretty much nothing - there's not even a clear, identifiable shot of her in the studio dubbing over Lina's voice ffs.)  So ha, that's worth a feminist essay in itself, but the upshot was that I ended up making something much wider and a bit darker and more bittersweet than I'd intended.

So very relieved tamcranver still seemed to enjoy it, as it strayed somewhat from the original request!

If you offered any of these sources, you are clearly a wonderful person with excellent taste and we're going to get along fabulously.  I'm so delighted to know you're going to make any kind of vid in one of these tiny fandoms, I can't tell you.  So no need to stress whatsoever about trying to make me happy or anything like that - as long as you're making the vid you want to make, the thing that made you offer this fandom in the first place, I'll be happy.  Optional requests are totally optional and only there to give you a bit of inspiration if you need it.

I love all sorts of vids, in all sorts of styles and genres, and ditto for music - my tastes are eclectic and open-minded. There's no genre or song I can't be sold on; if it works for the vid, it works for me. :)

There seems to be a bit of a theme with my requests this year – genuinely not intentional, several of my requests changed once I saw other people’s nominations!  But looking at them...yeah, they’re all daft, joyous things that make my heart happy and I don’t take too seriously.  So my requests are all in much the same vein; but one of the best things about Festivids can be getting something you never expected, so if you want to go in a different direction with any of these sources – critical of the source or sad or bittersweet or angsty or anything else - please do so, I’d love to see whatever you come up with.

I've registered for VidUKon 2015!  \o/  (Anyone else looking for a roommate btw?)

Been dithering about it for ages, but this has been a weekend of making scary decisions - in the last 24 hours I've arranged to visit a fandom friend in the Netherlands in April, and have agreed to sing in a festival down south in May again - so hey, why not complete the hat-trick.  :D  And it was a fab weekend last year, met some very lovely people - looking forward to meeting some of you again!

And speaking of scary things, I'd love to finish up one of the - ahahaha, not even slightly kidding - sixteen half- or mostly-finished vids on my hard drive, and submit it as a premiere.  With my record at finishing stuff recently, it's probably unlikely, but it's always nice to have a deadline to aim for!

Big favour, but would anyone out there be willing to look at a very rough, half-finished vid or two (or three) and do a bit of cheerleading/blunt-truth-telling as needed to help me figure out which one's worth trying to finish up in time?  ETA: fandoms are probably X-Files & Doctor Who, if that helps.  Probably.  Unless I change my mind again.  :p

I have to thank metatxt for my gorgeous Nashville vid, Coming Home to Me - if you missed it and you enjoy beautiful vids about the relationships between amazing, flawed, complex women, go watch it. One of those vids that gets you right in the heart, just stunning.

I made two vids this year - a Foyle's War vid as my assignment for dkwilliams and a Bend it Like Beckham Treat for jacquelee (notes at the posts). And now the anonymous period is over, I can FINALLY talk about Foyle's War because this show, you guys, this SHOW. You know how there are the shows you kind of enjoy, and the ones that you really love, and then the ones that just wham, smack you in the heart and bowl you over? This one was the latter.

Between work, a couple of trips down south, some family stuff, and a rather nasty bout of something flu-like, I've not had a lot of time/energy for fannish stuff recently...

(Except for a bit of Festivids admin, obviously; I sent out half the assignments a couple of weeks ago on a train down to London, praying for the creaky wi-fi to hold out, which was a very joyous if somewhat surreal experience!)

...but what I have been doing, from my sickbed (*pathetic cough*), is indulging myself in...something.  A source.  Can't talk about it - I didn't offer it, hadn't thought about it in years, but my Festivids recipient requested it and the request made me go 'ooh...' - but it's kind of a bit all-consuming at the moment.  It's so rich, you guys.  And, gah, full of heart.  And so pretty, and argh, I love everyone in it so much, but mainly the full-of-heart thing.  Oh, and completely unviddable, for reasons I wish I could rant about.

Of course, the sensible thing to do would be to vid the simple, straightforward request for the fandom I did actually offer, and then try to make the slightly bonkers, experimental vid I'm not sure I can actually pull off for the long, complicated, unviddable canon later.

Am I doing the sensible thing?  Am I heck.  *loads up the next installment*

Hello lovely Festividder!

First of all, thank you so much for making me a vid!  I'm so delighted and full of joy to know you're going to make any kind of vid in one of these fandoms, I can't tell you.  So no need to stress whatsoever, I'm really easy - as long as you're making the vid you want to make, the thing that made you offer this fandom in the first place, I'll be happy.

However, if you're the kind of person who likes a bit more to go on, I've talked some more about why I love each of these sources under the cut (this year with trailers videos for the curious).  I tend to focus on the positive cos that's the way my brain works, but I do love critical or contemplative vids as well - if there's something in one of these sources you want to critique, go for it!  Or if you want to do something joyful and celebratory or something completely daft or something bittersweet and poignant or something else altogether, I say go for any of those too.  Basically, you can't go wrong here.

Music: anything!  And I really mean that, I have very broad and open-minded tastes and don't want to restrict you in any way - if it works for the vid, it works for me.  I did say in my requests that I'd prefer not a song from the sources themselves, but if you've had a great idea along those lines I'm always open to persuasion, ignore me and use whatever music you want.
