Be Prepared
WSU Emergency Management works with campus stakeholders to to prepare for natural, manmade, and human-caused hazards that might impact the university community, facilities and campuses. These events could range from minor disruptions to catastrophic impacts. While some incidents may be mitigated through planning and preparation, the immediate safety, response, and rapid recovery heavily depend on the readiness of WSU faculty, staff, and students.
WSU Emergency Management uses the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command Structure (ICS) established by FEMA as the framework WSU’s emergency operation planning. NIMS and ICS work together to create a cohesive approach to emergency management. While NIMS provides the overarching framework for managing incidents across jurisdictions and disciplines, ICS offers the specific operational structure used to implement that framework on the ground. Together, they facilitate effective emergency response, ensure the safety of responders and the public, and promote recovery efforts following an incident.
