  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 60 years of happy marriage.

Could this be a case of ‘blind faith’ ?

Posted by Big John on June 28, 2012

I have a notice on my street door which reads …

“IF YOU ARE SELLING … WE DON’T WANT ANY … AND THAT INCLUDES RELIGION … SO PLEASE DO NOT RING THE BELL ! … THANK YOU.”

So this morning … Ding Dong ! Ding Dong ! … I looked out of the window and saw a post office van across the street. I rushed to the door (those buggers don’t hang about) only to find a grey haired man dressed in black and two elderly ladies similarly attired.

“We would like you to have this” said the man holding out a small leaflet.

“What is it ?” I asked

“It’s an invitation to a little gathering” he replied.

“A religious meeting ?” I questioned pointing to the sign.

“It doesn’t say anything about religion on that sign” said the evangelical nutter. “No, it doesn’t” echoed one of his lady acolytes.

Can there be such a thing as bible bashers’ blindness ?

In Isaiah 42:16 it says … “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them” …   After meeting this fairly tolerant athiest on a bad day, they might not be too keen to …

…tread my “unfamiliar path” again.
