  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 60 years of happy marriage.

Sophie looked nice, and only one medal.

Posted by Big John on October 7, 2017

I have often (perhaps too often ?) had a little rant about ‘er Maj’s sons and how they can’t keep out of the old ‘dressing up box’, but, blimey ! I couldn’t resist another one when I saw this picture of Edward wearing the ‘tropical’ full dress uniform of Commadore of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

I suppose that he thought it OK to wear this outfit as RFA vessels do transport Royal Marines to where the action is, and although he has the nerve to wear seven medals, he did only spend a few weeks training as a marine before deciding all that mud, sweat and those big tough men were all too much for him, and so, he dumped his uniform and flounced off to join the ‘luvvies’ of ‘theatre land’ where I am pretty sure he must have ‘rubbed shoulders’ with more than a few gay thespians.

On a more serious note, and bearing these encounters in mind, I have to wonder why ‘H.R.W’ (His Royal Wimpness) agreed to ‘pay homage’ to a serious ‘nasty piece of work’ named Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, who is often criticised by human rights campaigners over the country’s strict Islamic laws and lack of democracy, and where homosexuals are …

… hanged or stoned to death ?
