Last Hours, Surprise addition, A few yards away

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Having our “Work To 8:30” shift cut an hour and being sent away early to enjoy the rest of 2008.

~ Meeting up with Aunt Jeannie, Liz, and Bob, at
Hawthorne Valley for dinner. Our crew originally thought we’d have today off, and so I planned to go out with them. Due to a vote on Sunday, the majority led us to unfortunately work until 8:30, rather than 6:30, and have Saturday off. I told my family I couldn’t join them for dinner after receiving our work schedule but, yay!, fate had plans of her own.

~ After arriving early at the restaurant at 8:00, I asked if our “Reserved For 8:30” table was ready. I was told it was being cleaned and would be ready soon. I sat in the hall and waited for my family to arrive. At 8:25, I went back in to see if the table was ready, and waited for my family. At 8:30, I was given the table, and waited for my family. I was given our bread basket and water, and waited for my family …and waited and waited and waited and waited. I got up to leave at 8:50, wondering if things were OK with my family. I heard a voice yell at me as I walked to my car. I thought it was the waiter ready to charge me for the bread stick I ate. I then heard my name and thought “How do they know my name? I never gave it to them.” I turned about and it was Bob. They arrived ahead of time and had been seated at 8:00, probably just before I arrived, and were finishing their salads at the opposite side of the room in which I just sat moments before.

Making Quesas, Day spent in, Smart Smokie

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Using my quesadilla maker for the very first time. I had received it for Christmas years ago and, even though I love quesadillas and often order them at restaurants, I never had never used it. It makes really good quesadillas and I’m sure I’ll be using it more often. One can of refried beans equaled to three 10” quesadillas –food for a few days!

~ Staying in my warm and comfortable home all day long on my day off

~ As I kneel on the floor looking for a newspaper article I saw several days ago, Smokie decides to stand on my back for a few moments. Balancing himself on all four paws, he reminds me of a dog I once seen ride on the back of an elephant at the circus. He then jumps to the top of a dresser he wouldn’t be able to get to otherwise. Smart cat!

Winter Songs, Melted Snow, Pet me Now

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Listening to Sarah McLaclan’sImage WintersongImage CD as I drive about this week-end. I checked it out from the library yesterday and I enjoy it so much, it’s such a warm and soothing sound, that I’ll probably end up buying a copy.

~ The snow on the sidewalk and driveway has melted away, thanks to the current spell of 40-degree weather.

~ Waking up in the middle of the night to Smokie head-butting my hand so I’ll start petting him.

Dad laughing, Tree lights, Graveyard wreathe

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Cracking dad up with silly jokes in regards to things we are seeing on TV, before we head out to Montana’s for dinner with the gang.

~ Driving past an apartment building at night and seeing a young couple, 2nd floor, decorate their Christmas tree that they’ve placed next to their window. Blue lights only.

~ The iron-barred entrance to Northview Cemetery, a small Dearborn graveyard, has a small wreath with white lights hung upon it that shines in the night

Mail call, Sweet scent, Wickedly fun WordJong

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After receiving a 1st class bulky letter in the mail with $1.17 placed on for postage, addressed to “Molly”, someone who doesn’t live in my house, I decide to track down the sender and deliver it myself, rather than write “return to sender – wrong address” and send it back to the post office. I look up her phone number on-line, call, and speak with a man who knows Molly, but not her address. After I arrive home from work I notice the answering machine light blinking. It’s the sender, who is very appreciative and happy I am helping her resend her nieces birthday card, giving me the correct number to write over my number and telling me to just pop it back in my box and the postman will take care of it. I am happy to help her, I know I wouldn’t enjoy needing to make another post office trip to pay even more money and send a card out twice.

~ Relaxing with the scent of Lavender incense permeating the air

~ Finding Club Pogo’s WordJong to be a most addictive game, as I play until 3:00 in the morning

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Playing the Club, Christmas toys, Cat calendar

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Joining Club Pogo, now I can play every day without those irritating ads popping up! I especially enjoy Trivial Pursuit, Word Whomp, and Jigsaw Treasure Hunter.

~ Receiving all four Webkinz, ordered from Amazon.com, for Anne and Sara’s Christmas presents in the mail today, especially cool since they each came from different locations. For Anne there is a love frog and a hedge hog. For Sara there is a squirrel and a reindeer. For me there is knowing that I don’t have to keep waiting and hoping that they arrive on time.

~ The lady who sits at my desk in the day shift has hung a calendar with sweet cat pictures on it on our wall. So cute!

Stare down, A jewel of a bird, Fire drill

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Watching Smokie and a squirrel check out each other nose-to-nose on opposite sides of the front window

~ A beautiful Cardinal, the ruby of the bird world, flies onto the porch railing while I look at the snow outside.

~ A 10:00 PM fire alarm at work breaks up the monotony and gets us all huddled up as a group outside

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Traveling Telegraph, Holiday cards, Silly strings

TODAY I SMILED...

~ The work taking place on Telegraph, the main road that I drive 12 miles to and from work on, is nearing its end after a few years. What has been 35 MPH is once again 45 and more lanes are open.

~ Receiving pretty Christmas cards in the mail, some from people I haven’t heard from in quite some time

~ Smokie sees the tie ribbons on my bathrobe and seems to believe I’m wearing a new toy for him to play with.

Monday, December 8, 2008

Sweet treat, Friendly chatters, Angel invite

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Passing by a Ghirardelli’s dark chocolate and raspberry candy bar at Border’s , I can’t resist the temptation to splurge a couple extra dollars. Dark Chocolate and raspberry is my ultimate favorite candy combination. I savor a square in the car, enjoy a few bites later in the evening, and tell myself that I can make myself happy tomorrow by saving some till then.

~ Although I’m usually quiet and keep to myself, especially in bookstores, I enjoy a small conversation started by a lady near the bargain books, then one with a woman who begins speaking with me near the calendars.

~ Receiving my invitation to the Angel Club Christmas Party in the mail. It will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, at Ginger’s Tea Room. I’ve already planned for this and have requested the day off from work.

Sunday, December 7, 2008

Shoveled snow, Soda scent, Going home

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Backing out my car to go to work, I see snow has been shoveled from my front sidewalk by an unknown neighbor.

~ The scent of Faygo Rock & Rye fills the air after unscrewing the top off, and I instantly realize that it’s one of my favorite aromas.

~ We see the words “Waiting For Calling Assignment” pop up on our computer work screens at 7:00, followed by Joe yelling across the room “If you ain’t got a call, you’re not getting a call!” It’s always lovely to get off early!

Saturday, December 6, 2008

Games with dad, False Alarm, Good meal

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Spending the afternoon with dad playing an intense Checkers game, which ended with a three kings versus three kings tie, followed up with one and a half games of Yatzee.

~ Dad points to his card in the last game of Bingo played with 30 or so senior citizens, staff, and me, telling me he has only one more number before a straight line Bingo can be called. I whisper that we’re in a cover all game, so if it’s called, don’t yell “Bingo!” Naturally, as fate enjoys humor every now and then, that number is the next called. He looks at me wide-eyed. I say “don’t call it!” “…BiINGO!” I reassure everyone the game is still on.

~ Dinner at Max & Erma’s with dad, Liz, Bob and AJ was very good (and quite cheap!) tonight. I simply had a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup for my main meal, accompanying it with a overloaded stuffed potato.

Christmas greetings, Up and away, Bingo!

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Finding a pretty box of Christmas cards to send for the holidays, and they were on sale 50% off.

~ My co-workers laugh at how quickly I get up and run away from my desk at closing time. My new desk is on the opposite side of the room but I’m still the first to make it out. As I left tonight I joked back saying, “8:30 is 8:30!”

~ During Carole’s visit this morning she mentioned that dad was a big Bingo winner Monday night at his home, winning $4 on the final cover up. Go dad!

My Christmas 2008 Cards
"May the joys of this season be with you throughout the coming year"

Wing by wing by wing, Chop and tweeze, Snooze time

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Watching a beautiful group of birds fly about the sky, turning here, swooping there, almost as if they were connected in a single spirit

~ Tina mentioned that I look as if I’m glowing today; Karen said that I look different but she doesn’t know why. Perhaps it’s from chopping my bangs too short on Saturday, which lead me to wear my contacts again to balance my forehead, thus leading me to arch my brows which looked sort of bushy! It’s funny how looking better has originated from a mistake!

Image

Me "glowing" ...with some choppy-looking bangs!

~ Imagining this bed to be the most relaxing spot in all the world, until Smokie comes and cozily snuggles on my lap

New mags, The jokester's back, Classy hat dude

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Receiving my first issue of Good Housekeeping, a one year subscription I’m receiving free, thanks to Kroger’s. This is their Christmas issue and cheery Paula Dean is on the cover, making it even more delightful.

~ As I look into an old e-mail box I notice that my brother Steve is back on-line after having computer problems for quite some time. His funny jokes will once again be coming around to crack us up.

~ Walking out of the office I smile at Joe, he smiles back at me before I get to my words ”You always look so so classy with those hats you wear!”

...And speaking of Steve's jokes, here's the latest:

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. "In honor of this holy season" Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle", he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates" Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said "You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "These are Carols."

Helloooo Laptop, I Love It -Yea Yea Yea, Pleasing after tweezing

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Picking up my laptop from Best Buy. I took it in a week ago after it flat-lined and wouldn’t come back up. The moment I showed it to the Geek Squad it came on. He kept it a week for a diagnostics test. My bill was zero; I still have no idea what was wrong with it. It died as I was looking at an e-mail greeting card featuring a turkey being stabbed in a Psycho shower scene I was going to send my cousin. I think it scared my hard drive just a wee bit.

~ Still thinking about the movie Across The Universe, a video I picked up from the library and watched two days ago. When a movie stays in my mind and keeps me smiling two days after watching it I can safely say it’s one of my favorites.

~ Admiring my results after giving my eyebrows a much needed beauty treatment.

Monday, December 1, 2008

Danny Boy, Sweet Nibblin, Hello December

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Watching Daniel Radcliffe, one of my favorite actors, on Inside the Actor’s Studio. He has an easy-going and natural charm about him that makes me smile.

~ Nibbling on unbaked chocolate chip cookie dough; some dough is created to become delicious cookies, but then there’s dough that has a much shorter life span and is relished before it even makes the baking sheet. Yum!

~ Turning the calendar to a new picture

Thanksgiving Spread, Those Darn Brownies, Anne's Wishes

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Enjoying the wonderful food bought into our work potluck. I always love the mystery of not knowing what everyone has bought in; there’s always such an interesting and delicious assortment of food. In the following hours afterward, we can hear “Oh I need the recipe for this” spoken from all areas of the room.

~ Joe stands by my desk savoring one of my homemade brownies. He jokingly tries to seem stern, “I heard YOU are the culprit who made these… (chew chew chew)…I just want you to know… (chew chew chew)…that it took me a year to lose eight pounds…(chew chew chew)…and you, You, had the audacity to put Reese cups…(chew chew chew)…on brownies?...on Brownies???” He stomps off after informing me of my sin.

~ Coming home to find a new edition of Anne’s Christmas list she wrote for me sitting on my kitchen counter –all WebKinz, of course!

~ Finally watching “The Other Boleyn Girl”, a video that a co-worker lent me weeks ago, and liking it so much I almost popped it in twice.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Here comes the snow, Creative cans, Wise words

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Watching droplets of snow fall from the sky, slowly covering front yard leaves waiting to be raked

~ While choosing a can of Arizona Ice Tea from the vending machine it dawns on me that they all look like pieces of art, so beautifully created and designed

~ Reading an inspirational quote, written by Howard Thurman, I find on the blog “On Simplicity”, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive.”

Saturday, November 15, 2008

~ Enjoying a now rare night out, dinner at West Point Barbecue and apple pie dessert at Liz and Bob’s, with dad, AJ, Liz and Bob

Monday, November 10, 2008

Things We Remember, Honoring Veterans, Mail Mystery

TODAY I SMILED…
~ Treating dad to fish & chips, his favorite meal, at Mexican Fiesta, one of our all-time favorite restaurants. Even though his memory seems to be growing worse by the day, he remarks “I think I’ve been in here before” after we walk in.

~ A nurse, sitting behind the desk at dad’s eye doctor, stands and shakes his hand before we leave. With thoughtfulness she says “I won’t be seeing you tomorrow but thank you.” I find it a bit strange and wonder why she said it. It doesn’t dawn on me until we are back at his place, over an hour later, that tomorrow is Veterans Day and he was wearing his 51st Fighter Group hat.

~ Receiving November’s issue of “The Book of Alexia”, which used to be Alhambra’s mailing, in today’s mail. Once upon a time this 12-page pamphlet was free. Now it goes for $1.50 wherever it’s sold. I don’t subscribe to it but I enjoy it when I see it. I have no idea why this surprise was sent to me.

~ Listening to neighbors scrunch-scrunch-scrunch as they walk over the yet to be raked leaves on my front sidewalk

~ LarryG acknowledged my blog, stating it has "spectacular positivity", and gave it a Brillante Weblog Award! Such a sweetie!

Warm Muffins, Cool Sites, Not So Sick Days

TODAY I SMILED…
~ Carole and Sara visited, treating us with blueberry muffins. The enjoyment was doubled after Carole warmed them in the microwave.

~ Laughing at how long my bookmark list is growing as I find so many interesting websites from StumbleUpon

~ Sara, who was off from school due to (ahem) “illness”, had a twinkle in her eye and playfulness in her step, especially when next to Smokie

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

New Prez, Shed Happens, Save The worms

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Waking up to history, and hopefully a better change for the USA, after Barack Obama was voted in as president-elect.

~ Receiving a cute birthday card from Aunt Jeannie in the mail, showing a very pretty and fluffy cat with the caption “Shed Happens”

~ Shrieking when finding a worm under a wet plastic back on my backyard drive then finding a stick to carry it to the dirt and grass where it, in my naive mind, will find happiness once again

TODAY I SMILED…

~ A new family is seemingly moving in across the street, equipped with a dog. I find myself whistling over to it when the people step inside

~ At 2:00 I walk into the City Hall to cast my votes for election, expecting a long line. Surprisingly I didn’t even have to wait! At 2:20 I’m back in my car and heading home.

~ The lady who sits at Tina’s spot during the day left a bag of Halloween candy on their desk; Tina sneaks into the bag and takes some goodies out for herself. I soon find myself enjoying Reese cups after I jokingly ask if there are any.

Monday, November 3, 2008

Home Safe, Singing Carols To Carole's, Good Sale

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Enjoying the beautiful autumn colors throughout Hines Park, and singing along to the Christmas songs already playing on WNIC, as I drive to Carole’s house

Gnocchi Dumplings, Dad's Tune, Wanted: One Gerbil

TODAY I SMILED…
~ Seeing my favorite, and very old, white pot on top of Carole’s stove, full of gnocchi’s popping to the top

~ Dad tenderly rubs Anne’s foot back and forth singing one of his songs, with his lyrics, in only the way he can sing them. This song being “I’m not mad at yoouuuu, you ain't mad at me”

~ Anne whispers in my ear her new #1 choice for a Christmas present –a gerbil

Beautiful Tree Trio, Way Up High, The Place Is Looking Good

TODAY I SMILED…
~ The tree in my front yard is now full of beautiful orange leaves. The tree to its left has yellow foliage and to the right there is a tree in splendid red.

~ Staring out the window at work I watch high sky white streaks left behind from airplanes. The planes are so high they look minuscule. Knowing there are people in them is another reason to be in awe of technology.

~ Dearborn Italian Bakery, which makes the absolute very best pizza I’ve ever had, now makes unbaked quarter sheet pizzas! The scent of them being baked is as much of a gift to the nose as the taste is to the mouth. Tantalizing!

~ After trying to tear the stickers off my new drinking glasses and mug, and only being able to do it with shred after shred, The Question Club helps with a “soak it in hot water first”. Voila! It slipped right off!

Thursday, October 30, 2008

I've Known Angels, Scaaaary Rings, Jeepers Peepers

TODAY I SMILED…
~ Receiving a sweet Thank You card from Aunt Faith for the Seraphim Angel I gave her from mom’s collection. She chose the one with a bird fountain, I’m sure her birdie Charlie will appreciate that!

~ Tina, Stephanie and I each chose cupcakes with tiny plastic rings decorating them, Tina showed off her Dracula ring, Stephanie had chosen the ghost ring and I picked out the Frankenstein face

~ Tina liked my Peanut Butter Eyeballs so much she was telling pledgers on the phone about them. “We’re having a Halloween party and there’s so many good things back there! But I had one of those peanut butter eyeballs and that was enough for me!

Birthday Package, Welcoming Committee, Caramel Corniness

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Receiving a birthday package from Kristie, newly pregnant and due May 25th!, in the mail. She sent me a Horror Classics 4-movie pack, a mini digital “American Idol” camera, and a “signed!” birthday card. Being the frugal genius she is, she usually doesn’t sign her cards so I can reuse them ( ~though I never do! I like to keep my cards!)

~ As I drive up to my house after work it dawns on me that no one will be there to welcome me home anymore, and then I see Smokie, sitting in the front room window, watching my car pull in

~ After throwing back a handful of Better Made’s Caramel Corn in my mouth I take a swig of water and get a kick out of how it dissolves to just caramel crumbs

Monday, October 27, 2008

Dad's Song, Birthday Treat, Present To Myself

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Carole called to tell me how dad's doctor appointment was and to wish me a Happy Birthday. Dad was with her and he started the call singing his favorite rendition of Happy Birthday to me on the phone, "Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Gloom and misery everywhere, Pain, destruction and despair, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday" We grew up hearing him sing this, eh, "light-hearted" song on birthdays and it brings such good memories of him, I always smile when he sings it.

~ Enjoying half of the BIG "Sweet Obsession" chocolate bar Joanne gave me at work. She also gave me a bottle of Andre' Peach Passion wine. Yum!

~ Rather than driving about, seeking ways to entertain myself on my birthday, I gave myself time to rearrange my rooms and books.

MONDAY: The Bad, The Good, and then we go on

The Bad: Dad is in Bottsford Hospital since last Thursday due to blood clots in his leg.
The Good: I'm glad they caught them in time, and they're only superficial clots and not deep.

The Bad: Dad has tried several times to leave The Marquette House, and has even managed to escape two times -even though he's got a tether on his leg.
The Good: At least, for the time being, he has to stay in the hospital for a few days to get a shot everyday that his insurance will not cover if he returned to the nursing home. There is a "sitter" in his room round the clock.

The Bad: I have to serve on a jury court for the next few days. I'll be in court from 9 - 4 o'clock, then hightail it to work my job from 5 - midnight.
The Good: It will give me a couple extra bucks, and it's an experience I've never experienced before. The week will go by fast, I'm sure.

The Bad: I slept until 2:30 Saturday and didn't make it to the Ghost Conference.
The Good: It will be fun attending the workshops they'll have, one a month for 5 months.

The Bad: I got lost, as usual, in Detroit after I left my jury summons - turning what should be a half hour trip into a 90 minute tour, which included hitting one squirrel and almost a second.
The Good: I made it home and took a comforting afternoon nap

The Bad: Aunt Jeannie's grandson, or his friend, stole lots of silver change (no pennies, mostly quarters) that filled two mugs that were on my dad's dresser last week when they were helping her move her things out, and into her new apartment.
The Good: She should have everything out by the end of the week.

The Good: My birthday is in one week from today!
The Good: ...The Good will always come out on top.

~ Smokie persistently pushes my hand over and over to his head so I'll scratch him even though I'm barely awake and it's 5:00 in the morning

Ball of brains, Trivia pursuit, Din-din

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Buying a "ball of brains" for dad, AJ, Anne, Sara, and one for me. It's a see-through plastic, sort of like a stress reliever ball, full of tiny plastic brains. I give one to AJ and tell her "Here ya go, squeeze this when you feel you need more brains!" I give one to dad and tell him "Here ya go, squeeze this when you feel like your losing your mind!" I joke and tell them I'm going to put mine in the bathroom, for the times I feel like I shit my brains out.

~ Carole calls me from a birthgday party asking "We're all sitting here trying to think of the Kevin Costner and Sean Young movie, out about 20 years ago,..." I remember seeing it at the theater and Know I know it. After a couple moments of research (I was on the net) I answer "oh! here it is! "No Way Out!" "Thanks!" I love to be able to help with questions like these!

~ We find Saturday night dinner at Max & Erma's, where I dine on incredible Chicken Tortilla Soup and a scrumptious Chicken Salad Croissant, and enjoy a Pomegranate Fizz to drink,

Kookie monsters, Well spoken, Dad's words

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Listening to the song "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes" on the way to work and remembering cheaply created monsters I've seen on B-movies and Star Trek TV shows

~ Carole came over to tell dad that he'll be moving into a care center Tuesday, as I listen to her I admire her grace and tact

~ Hearing dad say "I thought you signed a movie contract" to Carole after she walked into the house; it's one of his pet phrases and one I hear several times per week after returning from work.

Sunny flowers, This is Halloween, 29 again

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Driving past the golden field of sunflowers next to Ford's World Headquarters

~ Driving past Halloween decorations some companies have already set up to amuse drivers passing by

~ Wishing Aunt Jeannie a "Happy 76th birthday" before she gently reminds me that she's "still 29"

Staying awake, Hello October, Happy Mary

TODAY I SMILED...

~ As I lay in bed, just waking up from sleep, Smokie sniffs my hair, nuzzles my neck, and paws at me, as if to see if I'm ready to get up and face the day. He wants to go to the living room but is making sure I'm coming down with him.

~ My favorite month, October, starts off with my favorite type of day, chilly and gray-skied. The beauty of October has a magic all it's own.

~ Co-worker Mary can finally say, after several months of searching, "We've found a new house and we know it's ours."

Cat talk, Smelling sweet, Money out money in

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Chatting with a Michigan Humane Society volunteer who called to see how Smokie has adjusted "one year later". He asked "this might seem funny, but do you talk to him?...that's just a question my wife recommends I ask." I said yes and almost replied "and what's so funny about that question?"

~ Sunblossom body cream and mist had me feeling good and smelling sweet all day long after my shower. I didn't know sunflowers smell so nice!

~ On the same day we had to pay a pretty high AT&T bill we received our "$100 cash back" check in the mail and that money going out didn't seem too bad

Cute Hairy, Handling Matters, In Celebration

TODAY I SMILED...

Image
~ Meeting "Hairy Callahan", Bob and Liz's new puppy Golden Lab

Image

~ Carole came by to help with dad's auto insurance while his car is "lost but not forgotten", his bills, and to let us know he'll finally be able to move into Marquette House this week, a very nice nursing home to help him with his "Alzheimer's rehab"

Image

~ Welcoming Autumn and remembering mom on her "real" birthday at Mexican Fiesta and a trip to the cometary to say hi ...She was born on September 22nd but due to a mistake by her doctor, who wrote her birth date down as September 12th, she lived a lifetime of celebrating it on two dates!

New toy, Hippity Hop, Making Up My Own Hours

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Coming out of Best Buy with a brand new Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Camera

~ Waking up to Smokie looking out the front window at full attention and Aunt Jeannie yelling over to me "There's a rabbit on the lawn!" I dash up to see it before it hops away. I haven't seen a rabbit out there since I was a little girl.

~ As I drive to work I realize I'm leaving an hour and a half late, believing I start at 4:00 rather than 2:30. I rush there, apologize, and realize that the rabbit was probably an omen wanting to tell me "You'll be late, you'll be late, for a very important date!"

Waking and shaking, One good read, Three great choices

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Waking up believing I'm late for work, and scaring myself half to death for it, then realizing it's Saturday and I have the day off

~ Finishing Lisa William's "book, "Life Among The Dead", in less than three days...a rarity for me. It's such a good read.

~ Enjoying Applebee's with AJ, dad and Danny. I chose the "trio", a meal where you can choose three fine items out of several listed to create your dinner. I chose hot and boneless buffalo chicken, steak quesadillas, and chicken/bacon/cheese mini sandwiches. I also had french onion soup with extra cheese. Yum!

Dream hours, Back to #1, Can I have an E

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After waking up in the morning, and making myself downstairs, I realize that morning is actually afternoon, 2:15 in the afternoon, and I have to leave for work an hour later. I haven't slept that late for a long, long time, I had woken up earlier but I wanted to put more dream hours in!

~ "Welcome back!" Joe told me I'm #1 in collections again, a place I hadn't filled in weeks.

~ The office plays hangman together, led by Ish, while taking in Friday night pledge calls

Grave flowers, Perfect spot, New do for AJ

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Driving past a widespread green-grassed cemetary my eyes catch glimpse of a lovely orange and red memorial bouquet made even lovelier from the sun shining upon it.

~ Resting in my car 5 minutes before I have to start work I see a car six lanes behind me, and right across from the entrance, leave his spot. I happily drive right over to fill it.

~ My braid-wearing 75-year-old Aunt Jeannie came home with a short cut today, something none of us ever thought we'd live to see!

Howdy neighbor, Sweet Mary, Today's Lesson

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After backing out of my drive to go to work I give a small hand wave to the new man who just moved in across the street. He waved back and I repeated my action with a bit more oomph.

~ Mary stops by my desk during break and asks if dad has found his car yet. She's been searching the streets and has her husband and son doing so as well. She's very concerned about him though they've never met.

~ Reading in today's Dear Abby, by Jeanne Phillips, "My mother used to say there are two kinds of people in this world: those who walk into a room and their attitude says, "Here I am!" And those who walk into a room and their attitude says, "There you are!" The there-you-are type is always the most popular."

Hello Hairy, Trade off, Smokie's non-surrendering

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Sending Bob a "rapping cats" e-mail greeting card from me and Smokie The Cat to welcome "Hairy Callahan", his new Golden Lab puppy, home. "Kitty says what's up?!"

~ While AJ tries calling about to find the closest MCR store to buy a new phone charger. I do a quick search on the internet and find that she can get what she needs done at Wireless Toyz, mere blocks away. I drove her there and she bought me lunch at Leo's Coney -a nice little trade-off!

~ Smokie jigs and jags to and fro here and there back and forth and places his body in different configurements so he can't be placed in his cat bag and be taken for his shot. He isn't a cat that hisses or bites in a moment like this, he just works his body the best he can.

Fall sports, New rags, Mail call

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Driving past a school football team all dressed up in their uniforms and in practice, one of the first signs of Fall

~ Buying four T-shirts in some pretty cool colors at that great fashion house CVS for under $10. A man passed me by while I was at the cashier and said "I didn't know they sell clothes at CVS!" I replied "Neither did I until just today, and check out these colors!" We were both just so geeked out!

~ Receiving two new magazines in the mail, Shambhala Sun and Body+Soul, on the same day I receive my yearly jury summons

Dazzling dream, Haunted York, Tina's Annie Lee

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Waking up from a colorful dream in which I attended our city carnival. All sorts of characters and roped off divisions under the big top taunted my mind. People stood in a line to look into a boiling pot. They said they saw nothing in it. When I looked I told the lady showing it that I saw faces in it. She said I didn't. I said that, yes, I did. She said I didn't because the police didn't allow it. In the next scenario I was suppose to play a stand up piano for the crowd because when I sat on a bench it squeaked. I said I didn't play and was then told I have "negative fingers". Throughout the day I thought of how I could make my fingers work magic.

~ While flipping through dad's stack of recent magazines, magazines I bring in from the box for him everyday, but hardly notice, I notice that National Geographic has a recent article about York, England, "the most haunted city in the world" they label it...a must read

~ After arriving at my desk for work Tina told me she didn't know I collected Annie Lee items, that she collects Annie Lee artwork too, she adores Annie Lee...she spoke so fast about her passion for Annie Lee collectibles that I couldn't tell her that the Annie Lee mug on my desk belongs to the girl who sits there in the day shift.

Safe and sound, Music to moan to, Dinner and dessert

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Hearing Kristi, a very good friend who moved to Houston two years ago, and her chipper voice on the phone letting me know that Hurricane Ike gave her no grief

~ Sitting in my bedroom on my day off, preparing my playlist for Halloween season, on a lovely gray and rainy day

~ Eating at Beaver's Creek with dad and Aunt Jeannie for dinner. I had French Onion Soup with extra cheese, Mac & Cheese, cornbread muffin, cole slaw and a Sprite. We each ordered a dessert. Dad ordered a ice cream sundae of sorts that he made me split with him. I ordered their plate of soft and warm chocolate chip cookies that I took home in a carry-out box so I can eat them during late movie TV

Angel Remembrances, On-line Laying Down, My Favorite Lady

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Dad's sisters visited, bringing a scrumptious Botana from Mexican Fiesta for lunch. Before they left I had each of them choose one of mom's Seraphim angels to take home with them to remember ma by. They were surprised at first but very happy I did so.

~ My laptop is now wireless! Yay! I never thought I'd see the day on which I can lay on my sofa and use a computer

~ Remembering my funny, sweet, and loving mom who would have been 74 years old today. She passed away on July 15, 2005 and there hasn't been one day that has gone by on which I haven't thought of her. She loved Bob Seger tunes, the color yellow, daisies, collecting angels and frogs, and having her back scratched often. She made my absolute favorite meal on my birthday every year -gnocchis ...And Good God How I Do Miss Her Gnocchis!!!

Tall and Tattooed, Photo flipping, Oh-so-Smokie

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Learning that the name of the handsome "tall-standing, tattoo-necked Tony" is really Carlos

~ Flipping through a stack of Photography magazines I picked up at the library to keep my mind entertained while at work

~ Seeing Smokie sit on the top of a bookcase with an oh-so-proud look towards me after a couple of days of an oh-so-challenging look towards them. He found a way to get up there though, being the oh-so-smart cat that he is

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Comfy naptime, Halloween decor, Special sauce

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After turning to lay on my stomach during a "before work" nap, Smokie decides to take a nap laying on my back

~ The lady who runs the small Hallmark/convenience store in our work building has kept a big pumpkin face metallic mug on her counter for the longest time to hold straws in. I mentioned to her once before how much I like it and she told me that I can have it one day. I told her again today that I really like it and she sold me her "originally priced at $8.99" mug for $2. I love Halloween decor and it will fit right in.

~ On the way home from work I stop at McD's for a grilled chicken sandwich and two small cheeseburgers -all three with Big Mac sauce. I just recently thought of asking for The Sauce to be put on my smaller burgers, 'tis so yum!

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Movie watching my pace, Chit chat, Cake for Ish

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Laying on my bed with my portable DVD Player finishing the movie I started last night, "Love In The Time Of Cholera".

~ Listening from a back room to Aunt Jeannie talk for hours with a young insurance man about insurance, JFK's assassination, smoking, travels, and all sorts of various subjects

~ Celebrating Ish's birthday at work with a sugar-rich cake and silvery balloons. "Happy Birthday Ish! Yahhh!" His birthday was yesterday and he's a young 23.

Cool colon, Reading my mind, Chilling out while staying in

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Dad passed his colonoscopy test and we were to the hospital and back within three hours. While discussing the results the doctor showed us a few pictures of dad's colon and answered my question before I could ask "No, you can't take this home with you. Everybody asks if they can, I don't know why, but they do." My reply? "Bummer."

~ While dad was undergoing his test I walked to the cafeteria to grab something for breakfast. I put some sausage links and French Toast on a plate and went off to find syrup. I must have looked confused and a wee bit lost, a sweet man looked at me and helped with a "Are you looking for syrup? It's at the beginning section."

~ Staying home for the afternoon and evening to chill, relax and listen to the rain fall outside

Sunday, September 7, 2008

Sweet cereal, Brave little soldier, Off the hook early

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Delighting in all the pretty colors of a bowl of Fruity Pebbles

~ Dad bravely drank all of the "slightly disgusting" orange-flavored Nulitely and stuck to his one day "no solid food" diet, which consisted of jell-o and chicken boullion soup, to prepare for his colonoscopy tomorrow

~ We "pledge bullies" got out of work one and a half hours early tonight!

Bigger print, Sweet dream, Mint and Montana's, A few of my favorite tunes

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Trying on different reading glasses and deciding on a copper framed pair from Kroger's so I can wear them over my contacts when I wish to read the finer print in life.

~ Waking up from a dream in which I was getting to know tall-standing, tattoo-necked Tony (I believe that's his name) from down the hall in our work building; we were just about to go on our first date!

~ Enjoying Clam Chowder, warm rolls, rare Prime Rib with mushrooms and mashed potatoes with gravy for dinner at Montana's tonight. Dined with dad, Aunt Jeannie, Mary, Liz and Bob. For dessert we had Mint Chocolate Chip Cake. (While at Kroger's I showed dad a lemon merangue pie in one hand and a coconut merangue pie in the other and asked him which one he'd prefer. He had no preference so I settled for the mint frosting chocolate cake! Yummy! I love the combo of mint and chocolate!)

~ It's been fun making a playlist of most of my favorite songs on www.playlist.com for my web sites. Rather than putting them in order of preference, which I probably could have never done, I put them in alphabetical order. Here is the listing...for now.

Wild guess, Here comes mommy, Faces from long ago

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Hearing Tina say to a pledger upon answering the phone "Hi! I'll bet you $40 you don't know who this is!" I think to myself, if they guess correctly do we lose the pledge?!

~ Aunt Jeannie laughed as I walked in the door after work. She told me Smokie has been in the back room and very silent all evening -until she heard me pull in the drive, yelled out "Your momma's home!" and he came running out.

~ Seeing a picture of Lisa, the sister of my brother's best friend in elementary to high school, on classmates.com, I decided to send a note to say hi. She returned my e-mail with a quick note the very next day.

White eggs & ham, Wiggly arms, Good view

TODAY I SMILED...

~Aunt Jeannie made me a ham and fried egg on toast sandwich for breakfast that was mm-mm-good

~ Watching Tina, who sits in front of me at work, make wild and wacky arm movements to entertain herself as she watched herself in the window reflection making her calls

~ By laying back on my Papasan Chair and bringing my portable DVD player up oh-so-close that it's basically laying on my chest, I get so centered on the screen that it's like being in my own personal theater! Tonight I watched "Definitely Maybe".

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Sweeter scenery, Ready answer, Hello mommy

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Being able to use my laptop computer in a room with a nice breeze coming in whether than the computer that has been in our dank and dreary basement since 1999.

~ Telling the owner/cashier of our work building's store the price of the magazine I buy today before she asks me, something she does every week. She smiles and says, "You know me so well!"

~ After getting out of the car, when arriving home after work, I see Smokie jump from the window sill to the railing so he can see me and meow "hello" the moment I walk through the door

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Eye tricks, Music memories, Warm and chewy

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Enjoying 3-D special effects at the theater as I watch "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" at Emagine Canton.

~ Hearing the music of the "Car Culture" exhibit in Henry Ford Museum, taking me back to when I worked there nine years ago

~ Biting my first bite of a warm salted pretzel dipped in nacho cheese sauce as I sat in an empty theater 40 minutes before the show began
