So strange to be posting on DW/LJ: I feel like a foreigner peering around an unfamiliar city, not quite sure how the traffic lights work or what the road signs mean. But I like that feeling when I'm visiting somewhere new, and it's good to be back here, even if it's just a brief visit. So, hi!

The other feeling that's sheer bliss, as good as the adrenaline high after a good run, is writing. Not that awkward attempt to put down words when there's nothing in my head, but the feeling when characters are chatting away in my head, and I've just got to get it down. Thank you freece, and Kings Rising (aka Captive Prince book 3) for making me able to write again. Even if I don't manage anything more than the few pages of book 3 epilogue I've written today, it's been great. I honestly thought I wouldn't write again, and while in the scheme of things, that'd be no great loss, I was a little sad about it. Today, I'm happy.

I'm so sorry to be such a long time getting around to making this post. I kept hoping I could somehow run a battle this winter, but it's clearly just not going to be possible at the moment. I know a lot of you will be disappointed (hell, I'm disappointed), and I'm sorry I've been slow responding to emails/comments/messages about the battle.

As I wrote on the Porn Battle site, this isn't an end to the battle, just a hiatus. If at all possible, I'd like to run Battle XVI, maybe next January (that's a maybe, though, not a definite promise), and if anyone has any name suggestions for the Battle XVI, leave them here!  Also, if you have links to any other porn (or other) battles that you'd like to share, leave a comment.

I'm afraid a lot of this is cut and pasted from last year – I feel like I'm mad to sign up for yuletide, given that I couldn't even find time to write a proper new letter, but the very idea of not signing up for yuletide makes me too sad. It's also a bit of a placeholder: rough ideas only for my two 'new' fandoms, to be pondered over and fleshed out before assignments go out. Any passing person who knows the fandoms (is there much LJ traffic these days?) is welcome to give me prompt ideas!

We've had a wonderful mix of old fandoms and new, big fandoms, small fandoms, fandoms of one, new contributors and some who've managed an astounding number of entries.  I know fandom is migrating away from journals, but it's great that you're all still joining in on this.  Thank you.

I want to say a special thank you to bowserbabe who's been helping out in technical ways and doing fancy things I don't quite understand but that have been very useful! And many thanks to all the other volunteers (anitac588, muses_mistress, nocturnalrites, athenejen, kindness-says, bowserbabe, kayim, colacube, latxcvi, blackeyedgirl, random00b, sara_wolf, samuraiter and ximeria) who sorted prompts and helped me get links to entries up on the website. Porn Battle XV will be happening! I've had a few queries, so I thought I'd let everyone know now, rather than waiting until I've managed to sort the dates out (I'm waiting on work/family stuff for that). It should be the second half of January, hopefully!

It'll be exactly the same as last time, except with a bit longer between prompts closing and the battle opening, just to make it a bit easier to manage. And bonus, it'll mean there's longer to trawl through the prompt posts and find the most tempting prompts.

It's a darrrrrrk and storrrrrrmy day out. But I'm not letting a little storm change my plans, which are shopping for boots and a freezer and maybe a winter coat*, and seeing the Hobbit. Sadly in 2D - why is it so hard to find a 3D performance at a time I can make? Is it going to be spoiled a little by seeing it in 2D?

I haven't had chance to do another yuletide recs post - I want to rec all the stories I betaed, because they were all awesome, but it seems a bit iffy to do that. And I've only managed to read a few, mostly on the train which is why some of my comments were rather monosybillic - I'm crap at typing on my phone. But if you want to guess which stories I wrote (only 2 this year, my main story and a treat), I'll write a ficlet if you guess at least one right. Hint: there's a split infinitive in one - I only just spotted it yesterday, and now I can't find it again to edit it out! Also, both my stories this year were slash. But no more clues!

*From past experience this means I'll come home with a bookcase, a scarf and a pair of jeans.

My glee couldn't be put into words when I opened my yuletide gifts on Christmas day! I feel so incredibly lucky and grateful, and just utterly overcome in the best possible way.

I haven't got around to talking about my love of the Captive Prince novels yet - I've been too busy repeatedly rereading book 2 and impatiently waiting for book 3 - but my love for Laurent in particular has no bounds. And I got a wonderful Captive Prince fic for yuletide, which splendidly assuages my immediate need for book 3! It's full of gorgous descriptions, and best of all, Laurent overcoming his stubborn refusal to admit how he feels.

Saw this in destina's journal, and I really want to play, but I have to go to bed now and be up and out early in the morning, so no play time until tomorrow afternoon. The Rectify icons reminded me: I don't think I ever said anything about Rectify while I was watching it, but I loved it. It had a quietness that drew me in to the lives of all the characters, and a depth that most shows are missing. Highly recommended if you haven't already seen it.

I have a stonking cold, and I was lying in bed this morning wishing I didn't have to get up and get so much done today. And then I opened my yuletide assignment and this huge grin spread over my face.

I'm liking the new operating system on the iphone/ipad. Bit of a shock when I updated and everything looked completely different, but it's good. Clean and simple. I like clean and simple and uncluttered.

I ended up writing four little snippets based on the prompts I got the other day - I need to take more train journeys. Though then there's typing them up - shame I can't just photograph the scrawl in my notebook and post that!

Tomorrow, I'm on a train for an hour or so, and I PLAN TO WRITE! Capitalization for emphasis and to drum it into myself that I'm going to do it. But I don't want to sit there for 55 minutes whining 'but what can I write, wah?' So could you prompt me, please? Full disclaimer, this isn't me taking requests, and I offer no guarantees that I'll produce anything you want to read or that I'd consider fit to post. I'm just after a starting point, and I'm being entirely selfish here.

So, could you give me an idea of a missing scene (from something you think I might have seen - my icons are a good clue, especially recently uploaded ones) or a picture and a character name, or a fandom and a quote, or a fandom crossover/blend, or something that might spark an idea. Thank you!

ETA: Maybe Hannibal, Teen Wolf, Welcome to Night Vale (though I've only heard about 1/3 of the episodes), Orange is the New Black, Rectify, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Orphan Black, Rivers of London series...? Or other things. Elementary? Warm Bodies? Haven? Um, I always go blank when I try to make lists like this. Some of these I'm not particularly fannish about (Night Vale, Orphan Black, Orange is the New Black, Hannibal, most of them really), but they seem like they could be fun to write.

Okay, so, the thing is, I am absolutely terrified of yuletide this year. But even more terrified of not taking part and missing out, because I so love writing for yuletide and that scrabble towards the end to write some treats, and begging hippos for a last minute beta (okay, that bit isn't my favourite) and the wait on Christmas Day for the archive to open, and the fun of opening up my story and sitting down to read. But, guys, I haven't written more than useless, unposted snippets since January!¹ January!!! So can I even still write? I don't know. But I do know that if I'm going to even think of attempting yuletide, I'll need some help. So is someone willing to, I don't know, coach me how to write again or hold my hand or kick my ass or something? And beta some random fandom? And talk me through panicking?

I'm trying to bribe myself into doing it by thinking about fandoms I could request (I love gifting fics, but obviously I do love getting fic too!). So here's what I'm thinking (bearing in mind that I want to avoid really tiny/non-existent fandoms because of the extra work matching they can cause, but I want to pick a selection that means I wouldn't favour any one over the others).

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. This is an easy choice, because Phryne Fisher is an awesome character, and the supporting cast are all fun, and it'd be an easy one to ask for because I'd love just about anything.

The Captive Prince. I'm so glad kaneko and tevere recommended this so heartily, as I'd never have given it a go based on the blurb, or kept going based on the first couple of chapters. But I ended up reading it online and then buying the ebooks and reading it all over again straight away. I have thoughts, and theories, and at one time I even had fic ideas (and a fic fest idea), just no opportunity to write them/run it, so there's plenty to explore here.

The Unusuals. Either Shraeger/Walsh or ensemble. One to make me happy.

The Gates. I'm always going to want more Dylan and Nick (or Dylan/Nick).

And then there are Eureka, Chicago Fire, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Richard II, Macbeth, Diana Wynne Jones novels, Warehouse 13... Look at me, being good and not picking a selection of obscure plays hardly anyone has seen!

¹ This morning for some bizarre reason I attempted to write femmeslash. Queen Margaret/Duchess Eleanor of Gloucester from Henry VI part 2. (As an aside, why?! I can't do hate sex, and that's all they'd have.) I wrote 3 sentences, read them, and winced.

ETA: I should probably have prefixed this post with 'hi, I'm not dead.' It has however been the worst/hardest/saddest/most exhausting 6 months of my life, which is why I haven't been around. But life is showing some glimmer that it might return to something approaching normal, so I'm going to try to be around a bit more. The Fall Fandom Free For All isn't going to happen this autumn, though, just in case anyone is wondering, but I'll cross my fingers for next year.
