Help needed please for upgrading
I currently own a Palm Centro phone and am looking to upgrade. I am keen to keep the calendar, documents and contact facilities of this phone, which I hot sync to my Apple Mac using Palm Desktop 4.2.1. If I upgrade to one of the current HP smartphones, does anyone know if I would still be able to do that with HP WebOs? Also, can all my existing information be migrated over from Palm Os to WebOs? And how is this done? It is important for me to keep a desktop interface for viewing calendar and contacts similar to what I have with Palm Desktop. Is that supported in WebOs and on a Mac? Also, I need access to this when not online; will this be the case as I heard that the personal info on WebOs is stored in the cloud? Also, which of the current range of phones support this? | | Friday, November 12th, 2010 | 4:06 pm [ronnieee]

New Palm Pre freezing
Today I got my Palm Pre with sprint and so far not so good. First time I started it up the Palm logo stopped pulsing and after 14 minutes of waiting for it to start, I had to take the battery out and try again. Second time I got it to turn on. However so far it's froze up 3 times. 3 times in only 5 hours. Once was when I plugged the phone in while in the middle of writing a text, so maybe that had something to do with it. The other times it was just random. I don't have multiple apps or cards open, and it's frozen usually when adding a contact or writing a text. I've waited a long time to see if it would unfreeze itself but no luck, every time I'd have to take the battery out and restart it. I read that a screen cover can cause that but mine doesn't have one, I took it off. Any suggestions as to why this is happening, how to stop it, or what to do when it happens would be much appreciated! Thanks! xposted | | Friday, September 24th, 2010 | 6:41 pm [alleypat]

WebOS apps?
I need your help! I just upgraded to a Pre Plus. Now I need all new applications. What I'd really like is: - an ssh client. I had been using Pssh.
- an IRC client. I was using UpIRC.
- jabber/IM client. I had been using Chatopus and the default AIM client. It'd be cool to have something that could do ICQ, AIM, and multiple jabber clients (GTalk, Facebook, LJTalk) at the same time.
Other programs I used all the time: Filez, miniTones. I don't know if the functionality of either is built into the phone (probably not, at least for minitones). Are there webOS analogues? And, of course, any other (preferably free!) cool apps you know about. Thanks! | | Monday, March 29th, 2010 | 3:10 pm [slow_mo_panda]

Well, poo. 9:27 AM 8/28/09 · I'd like to thank, yet again, all the people that helped me track down a new PalmOne Zire 72. The new one is still working great and I'm enjoying it greatly. That doesn't mean my eyes aren't still on the horizon though. I like to keep aware of upgrades for the next best thing. Fry's hasn't been very helpful in that. For whatever reason they no longer carry any Palm products. What few they do have are leftover from stuff they previously had but never sold. I finally managed to checkout the Palm Pre at a local Sprint store. I'd heard about it, been pretty regular in commercials of late, and as I'd never buy an iPhone it seemed like a good alternative...excepting it really wasn't. In the first place, I like having my cellphone and PDA as separate entities. I can play a game while talking to someone on the phone this way, or look up information without interrupting a conversation. Also, I'm not of the mind to get an internet connection on something with such a small screen. I like a big old monitor or flatscreen that's close to the size of my head. The Palm Pre is largely geared for online & phone usage. It doesn't have a stylus as it's designed with a slightly different tactile interface. More often then not I use my nails instead of the stylus but that wasn't working here as it's more set for skin on screen contact. Can't imagine that's a good idea... ...there's a reason why the older models had a little thin cover you could buy for the screens to protect it from the oils that the body naturally secretes. You were supposed to keep your fingers off it as much as possible. Then again, when I was little they told us never to look into laser beans cuz it would damage our eyes and now there's lasik eye surgery. Whatta world. Another failing point for me was the screen size. It's much smaller than the one on my PalmOne. Overall, if I ever do get a newer model it's definitely not going to be this thing. Turning off a Centro
I have a Palm Centro. I know how to turn the phone off but not the whole device. Is there a hidden power off button somewhere? | | Sunday, May 24th, 2009 | 8:02 pm [princessheiri] |
Anyone who can solve this one, I'll love <3 you forever!!! It involves a Handspring Visor Deluxe... and Windows Vista, which I've basically read "Yeah, right, never going to sync. Ever." I've downloaded a few freewares and softwares that are supposed to correct the issue but I'm still getting nowhere. Everytime I attempt a hotsync a window pops up saying "Pocket Tunes Communication Error: Read/write error when communicating with your Palm Handheld. Please restart your music player and try connecting your palm to your computer again."
As far as I knew I didn't even think this Handspring could play music, can it? I'm not even trying to sync anything to it that involves music, just an old chess app and an electronic check register.
I've read everything I could find from google searches and more, and I love this little thing, its been super useful, but would love it to do what its supposed to with the computer apps too.
Help!!!!
Thanks, Hayley

Tungsten T Uh oh.
I have a Tungsten T that I bought only a month or 2 ago on eBay. Suddenly it won't accept input from the touch screen. If I'm in the memo menu, it will take me to the entry in the menu when I tap it (I have lists of things like Trader Joe, with the shopping list starting on the second line. Hope that makes sense.) Once I'm at the next level down - that is, at the shopping list entry, trying to write ont he graffiti space triggers the Record drop down. It doesn't respond to Done or Details, and if I tap below them, I go to the main menu. Is this a touch screen failure or a software failure, and is there any way to get the thing working again? It may have happened after the battery ran down. Now it shows fully charged, but that hasn't helped. Thanks! | | Sunday, April 26th, 2009 | 1:31 pm [evilgrins]

PalmOne Zire 7.2
When I went to my Niece's birthday I'd planned to take pictures and record the singing and cake presentation on my PDA. However, my PalmOne crapped out on me and then did something especially weird; blanking out to a completely white lit screen and refusing to reset no matter how many times I hit that little button on the back of it. The automatic deletion of all content and going back to the facto4ry defaults thing has been happening a lot lately. Really weird it always happens when I'm wearing a particular pair of black jeans. Kinda makes me worried they might be slightly irradiated (not being entirely serious here) and my happy place will soon be glowing in the dark. Fortunately that hasn't been the case so far. I can't figure what's up with it. My gameplan was to wait till it ran out of power, which despite the fact that I couldn't turn it off when it white screened took about 7 hours. Then hit reset and power it up again but now it's doing the exact opposite and I can't turn it on. There's a lot of stuff on it that I probably have backed up on my computer but the economy being what it is and still being laid off and I'm a bit finicky about what I look for in a Palm Pilot, don't want one with a phone built in or internet access, means I'm kinda up shits creek here. That and from what I've seen none of the new Palms have a camera built in. I kinda love that little feature no matter how lousy the resolution is. Anybody know where I can find a relatively cheap but fully functional PalmOne Zire 7.2? I've already skimmed craigslist with no luck whatsoever. Please forgive my utter stupidity. I have a palm tx. I love it. My husband has decided that I should get a pda/phone(so I'd have 1 less thing to lose carry). If I got a centro would it work the same as my tx, as far as the calendar & stuff goes? I googled, but now I'm more confused than before. I do not understand technical stuff at all, I was just looking for a simple yes/no answer, if that is even possible. | | Saturday, April 4th, 2009 | 9:59 am [selki]

Palm OS will have emulator on Palm Pre!
Thanks to katsmeat, amblinwise[one], and tertiumquid for your responses about a replacement for my touchy Palm Zire 71! I found that, for whatever reason, taking the SD card in and out and fiddling with more resets and fully charging it seems to have restored it to normal ... for now. Further, I just read that the Palm Pre will have a Palm OS emulator, after all! Whoo! A smart move on their part, as it means they'll have up to 30,000 apps available for the Pre, and the apps are estimated to run 2x faster there. So I'm going to hang on and see if I can wait until then. Palm isn't doing the emulation themselves, but it will be available the same day the Pre releases through MotionApps -- click through to comment on what apps you'd especially like to see supported. I told them, "Space Trader v1.2.2 (GPL), PalmReader, Weasel, Address Book, Memo Pad, Date Book, To Do List, Palm Globe, Theremini, HandyShopper, NoMess, Patience (by Keith Packard), SameGame, map/metro apps such as Caltrain+". | | Friday, April 3rd, 2009 | 1:07 am [selki]

Latest/best PalmOS 5.x-compliant device?
I have a recent backup on an SD card from my Palm Zire 71. The Zire doesn't seem to be responding to its touchscreen any more, even after resets. Also, it had pretty much come to end of life on its battery. I suppose I could just look for another Palm Zire 71 on Ebay, but is there another later/better Palm device I should look into getting instead? My idea would be to restore from backup onto the new device (the SD card also has the backup/restore application on it). I don't need phone capabilities, but a camera would be nice. Maybe a Tungsten or something? | | Friday, March 20th, 2009 | 10:10 am [steverogerson]

Ringtone query
I have just bought a Centro. I sent a ringtone from my previous phone over to it via Bluetooth and it put it automatically into an application called Pocket Tunes. What I can't work out is how to tell the Centro to make that music file the main ringtone. In Pocket Tunes there seems to be no menu option to do this. Any suggestions? | | Thursday, February 19th, 2009 | 7:47 am [yuri_sisteble]

Offline Browser
I used to use "PDA Converter" but it is no longer supported and I am having conduit issues. I have had SOME success with Avantgo, but now Palm OS 4 doesn't seem to take it these days. Does anyone know a decent (and cheap) system for downloading web pages to my Tungsten|E for offline reading? That still works? Fatal error
When I hot sync with my computer, I get a fatal error message on the handheld that says: VFSBDCache.c, Line:3522, block runs inconsistent I then have to reboot the handheld to get it to work. The changes to the diary on my computer have not been passed over. It reboots fine but I still get the same error message when I try to hot sync again. I am using a Tungsten T5 and a Mac Powerbook running Desktop 4.2.1 and Mac Os 10.4.11. This has been the same for some time and I haven't had any problems until today. Can anyone please help? | | Thursday, January 8th, 2009 | 1:52 pm [teamnoir]

Help! Virus? - RESOLVED
I am not sure what happened but I seem to have some sort of Palm virus.
Hotsynched and charged it last night. There were no new installs or anything, which is the confusing part..nothing changed except for adding a few addresses and memo changes, why am I having problems? I can't isolate it to any particular application..
-It seems to be responding VERY slowly. Like several seconds between button clicks. It was never this bad before and now it's practically not usable.
-I also tried turning it on this morning and it would not turn on, even though it was fully charged last night. I've had the battery 'suddenly be dead' on me several times before. This time I thought to hit reset and it came on and told me the battery was EXTREMELY low and needed to be charged, even though it was fully charged.
-The IR keyboard isn't registering. I realized this before the other problems. I'm *hoping* it just needs new batteries, I will check that tonight after getting new ones. I can't get it to tell me the battery power or anything.
-This morning I tried using it after charging it again, and I think I've discovered the battery problem - I turn it off and maybe ten seconds later it turns itself on again.
Obviously this effectively renders the Palm (Tungsten E2) useless if I can't keep the battery charged because it won't stay off, or enter notes in a reasonable amount of time. Has anyone had this problem? Are there any solutions? It's only several months old and I use it a lot.
ETA: I was able to find the answer here: http://libraryvoice.com/archives/2007/01/04/my-palm-turns-itself-on/
Apparently all the problems were due to a birthday alarm and it being the first week of the year. Glitch on the OS. Changed the alarm and all is now well; it stays off, it's appropriately responsive to data entry, and the keyboard now registers just fine.
