Another Milestone for Calan

My little man is becoming such a big boy!  Calan is officially potty trained.

To tell you the truth, Cal was ready a couple months ago and would often go into the bathroom and use the potty to pee all on his own.  But with our recent trips to Dominican Republic and to Indiana (future posts) I knew it would be easier to keep him in diapers.  When we got home it was time to get serious.  IMG_2886

We bought a chart with plenty of awesome stickers.  We also gave him a pretty hefty incentive… a new trampoline.  We planned to get one this summer anyway, so this was the perfect opportunity.

From day one Cal did AMAZING!  No accidents for the first week.  We only had an occasional mishap while he was playing outside and didn’t leave enough time to run in and get the job done.

We are so proud of him!

Both kids were super excited about the trampoline.  They “helped” dad put it up.

It was so exciting.

We’ve already spent hours jumping… so much fun!

Good job little buddy!  You are growing up so fast!

We love you so much!

Fun at the Farm

The other day a friend took us to a little farm right around the corner from our house.  We even got a ride on their super fun golf cart.  The kids loved seeing all of the animals and feeding them.  They equally loved seeing all of the farm equipment- especially the backhoe.  We had a great time!

Now that we’ve met Farmer Johnson, he said we can come visit anytime.

We will be back, very soon!

A Milestone for Calan

It was only a few months ago that Cal figured out how to climb out of his crib.  I was super sad, because before that time he was a rock star sleeper.  Once he had discovered a world of playing over sleeping everything changed.

We decided to take the face off his crib so he could get in and out easier.IMG_8231IMG_8286
The other day our friend asked if we would like her son’s car bed… how cool is that?  What little boy wouldn’t want a car for a bed?  So down came the crib…
Cal and Daddy worked hard to take it apart.

Happy boy sitting on his new bed.
He also loves his new helmet and wants to wear it all the time. I love it!IMG_2792

What a handsome boy!

Thank you Mr. Lewis…

I just came across a great quote by C.S. Lewis, one of my favorite authors.

It hit me to my very core.  He said…

“Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different....”

Man, isn’t it the truth?

Both kids are changing like crazy right before my eyes, and at the same time, every day feels the same.  We just live our simple little life day after day.

This was only 6 months ago…

Ellie had only been walking for a month or two and Cal only had a few words he really liked to use.  Cal was 2 1/2 and Ellie was 15 months old.

Wow, that feels like a life-time ago.

Now Cal is 3 years old.   He is talking like crazy.  It’s so fun to know what’s going on in that little head of his.  He asks great questions and seems to listen and learn from my answers.  I love it!  Ellie is 21 months old.  She is not much bigger, still wearing a lot of the same 12 month old clothes, but she is sassy as ever.  She talks NON-STOP!  I love to hear her ramble on and on.  I think Cal is talking more to keep up with her- seriously.

They are typical siblings and have arguments about who had which toy first, but beyond that they are best buddies.  In fact, it wasn’t until Ellie could go to nursery that Cal would finally go alone without mom or dad.  Oh the influence of his 20 pound sister!

Here are a few of my favorite things right now…

~Cal still calls chocolate “Baka” even though he can say the word chocolate.  Needless to say, Ellie calls it baka too.

Cal loves to paint with his watercolors.

Cal loves to pour water from one cup to another… like a little scientist.

Cal has the BEST memory.  If I am looking for something I saw him playing with, 99% of the time he remembers where he put it, even if it has been days or even weeks.

Cal loves to pretend.  Play time is so fun!

Cal’s favorite toys right now are his trash truck, legos and his new bike from his birthday.

Cal is very polite (most of the time) and will say please and thank you.  He’s just started saying “No please” instead of no thank you and I love it.

Cal can count to 10 and he knows all of his colors, still working on the ABC’s.

Instead of baby, Cal now calls Ellie, “Ellie Belle”.

Ellie talks and talks and talks.  Often she and Cal have conversations that I can’t understand.  They seem to do just fine.

Ellie’s favorite thing to say is “My do it” She is very independent.

If she wants me to hold her, she will come up to me and say, “Hold you, mama”

Ellie is just over 20 pounds and can fit into most of her 12 month old clothes.

Ellie out eats Cal at every meal- almost double.

Ellie is the BEST little sleeper.  When we put her down and night, Patrick will say to her, “close your eyes Ellie Belle”.  She closes her eyes and we never hear a peep again.

Ellie can also count to 10 (calling 7, 11 just like Cal) but likes to say “lello” for every color.

Her favorite food, hands down, is “peanut-butter-and-jelly” and asks for it multiple times a day.

Both kids love our adopted kitty, Jinxy, the neighbors cat and play with her all day.

Both kids love books and reading stories.

Life is so good and we feel so blessed.

Ellie’s Newest Trick

IMG_8039

Ellie has a new trick.  She loves to pull this little stool out of the IMG_8041pantry and come “help” with whatever I’m doing.  She’s so tiny it scares me a bit… but Cal has been helping on this same stool since he was 15 months old and Ellie, at 18 months old, is equally tough as her big brother.  Cal has since graduated to a barstool so this is officially her stool.  She now has a whole new perspective on life- our life in the kitchen.

She is a good IMG_8055helper!IMG_8054

So proud of her accomplishment!

She also love to help wash the dishes.  For this task she need to IMG_8066be a bit higher and a kitchen chair works great.  By the time she’s done she is soaking wet.  This little apron helps… a little.  She takes her work very seriously.

We love you so much little Belle!  You are getting so big!  You make us smile!
