"Rain blow my soul" is five tracks of twisted improvisational ritualistic multiinstrumentalist folk music. The remaining three cd's are works of old-fashioned electronical musick ranging from rather calm and etherially ringing icy northern atmospheres (Stories from the abyss) through the more obscure and surreal constructions of mannipulated acoustical instruments, vocals and (seemingly) found sounds of Brown Mystery to the more noisy and daring, disturbing, and, well, rowdy sounds laced together on Rowdy Behaviour. They are all well-produced and recommended. They are also, as the trúa website reads, very affordable - 25 kroner each.


The second announcement concerns the relatively new unit Danish vaishyas.

It seems that DV does pretty much the same as this nwd-blog, as its self-proclaimed aim is to "keep yourself updated on what happens on the danish underground experimental/avantgarde scene". These guys seem to have some things going on, so you should keep an eye out them. So far, they have made a couple of albums available for download, of which the Barad-dur-ones are recommendable.

Family underground

21st-century-psychedelic dronemechanics Family Underground must be one of the best established Danish non-computer-experimental-units these days. They have been releasing music as family underground since cirka 2003, but have been droning for even longer, making them one of the longest lasting Danish acts riding this particular wave. Thus, a documentation of their work has its place here.
Their discography is quite large, so here is an introduction to it, picking out one release from every year of existence.

Trulofa

It is difficult to say exactly what Århusian trulofa is, as the musical output as well as the people involved vary a lot. A thing common to trulofa is though obvious roots in oldschool electronical manipulative music as well as folk music. This record is a good example of that, as the music varys from nwwish collages and electro acoustic spheres to awkward march-folk, but still keeps the overall feel intact, strengthened by the diversity. That is, a feel of very freely instinctive creativity.

Gaeoudjiparl

The goodiepal, also known as Kristian Vester, is many things. Among those, he can be counted as one very prominent Danish composer / music theoretician / robot enthusiast concerned with the electronical music of the old school. Working under various names, in various projects, and with various other people, mr. pal has worked up an extensive discography scattered all over the world since the 90's. Today, he seems to be primarily occupied with making music capable of fooling computers that are slowly taking over the world without us noticing; directly (set sounds and images, advertisement, the internet) as more indirectly (check the interviews below). Please take the time to hear what the man has to say for himself, by watching/reading/listening to the media on these (or some of these) pages:

Alternately you can listen to the hacker-pack advertisements that can be downloaded here. They make up a fair presentation of, if not his musical output, then his sense of humor, which is very important when dealing with his music.

Brainwashed has made a vast amount of goodiepal/goodiepal-related music available for us all to download for free on this page and quite frankly, it really is a goldmine.

A cover reads '100% adventure trance', which is a pretty good description of some of the music. An other could be 'cultural hacking'. The music i very diverse, ranging from 8bit electronical scapes to sarcastically reconstructed teenrock, but primarily it has a feel of folk music and electronical music of the times when it was about making new sounds, as opposed to the preset-music of today.

Here is a suggestion of how to approach the archive:

3: The brand 7" discs . Parts goodiepalfolk parts advertisement-hacking. Parl has over the years worked for various large brands (coca cola, carlsberg, nokia..) occupied with commercials. He ended up stealing their sounds, quitting his job, and releasing those sounds as the hacker-pack, thereby freeing the sounds that make up a great part of our consciousness. This is a series of releases featuring some of those sounds - information-age-electrofolk?

bm . yellow hand

The yellow hand recording is now available as cd-r (as seen above). The cd has been a year on its way to this more 'official' release. It contains one long live-set consisting of four tracks, some of which are matured versions of tracks on earlier releases. It is not quite as trashy as the earlier tapes, though it can still be considered 'industrial freenoise'. Can be bought here or by contacting bm. Price: 10 kroner, 2€ for foreigners. This 3xcs box-set compiles two earlier releases by BM and the new release 'yellow hand'. Released today (june 16th) by pcib and Beyond Repair. Strictly limited to 14 numbered boxes. Can also be aquired through Beyond Repair, or directly in Dandelion records in Århus or Repo Man Records in Copenhagen. Price: 50 kroner. The box contains:

1: A remastered version of the first demo-tape 'released' back in 2005. Originally, the tape was recorded live and dubbed directly, meaning a more idealistical approach and hence a more 'idealistical' sound. This tape is the aesthetical twin. Trashy early danish non-computer dronenoise.

The new split between dreamers cloth and shiggajon was released on ikuisuus yesterday. Ikuisuus writes:

Smittekilde and Raphael Gimenes

Smittekilde is the mothership of primarily graphics-wizard Zven Balslev. Situated in Copenhagen, Smittekilde spreads out good taste all over Denmark (as well as other parts of the world), releasing, pressing, and distributing books, graphical art, and music by Danish as well as international artists. It's a really great thing, running for 10+ years now, that you should really check out if you haven't already done so. Go to the website:

Back in 2005, a compilation LP of more and less serious music by more and less obscure Danish (and a few just as obscure non-Danish) acts was released on smittekilde as "Smittekilde #9", 'replacing' the smittekilde zine. It is now available for free download here; link further down. The original pressing also included a "big fat silkscreened book by several artist". Besides, I recently made quite some discovery, that I hope more people would also come to make. I don't know much about this guy other than this: He is seemingly Brazilian-Danish, his name is Raphael Gimenes, and he makes the most wonderful psychedelic folk tunes straight out of Borup, Sjælland (close to Roskilde). I have only been able to find two myspace-pages containing 9 different songs:

Amazing stuff. 'light' acid-folk like it should be. Unpretentious folk-tunes, obviously beatles-inspired, soaked in etheral reverb, mildly psychedelic mind-tricks, and occasionally the usual indian acid-folk instrumentation. It's authentic and well-produced. Track names like "toys turned into rhapsodies", "sunfair", "the canticle of the sun", and "vor frelsers kirke" might be an inciation of the sound. All the songs are highlights. If you know anything about this guy, that I don't, you are very welcome to write me an email. Address further up and right.

A short update to bring to your attention, that the new geiger-magazine is out, this time bearing a review of a couple of the tapes on this blog. They got the name wrong, but all in all it's a quite pleasant review.

Claus Haxholm pt. 2 . Old stuff

So this time we have come to the past.
two records. released via the bsbta label in 2004.
in the summer of 2004 i was asked to play at spot festival, but i had only released a track on a bsbta sampler from the year before.

So Christian Kann (BSBTA labelboss) asked me to release more songs- which was gathered as "very small pieces of music and sound". I only had a crappy computer and the 60 secs recorder from windows. but still to this day i think i've got some good songs out of it. it consists of songs from 10-60 seconds(with one except- the last song, from when i discovered some "tricks"(naah not really) in the recording program). The sound on this record is more folky and guitarbased in contrary to the second EP i released, it's also far more critic and serious in it's sound than #2; Tyst Ep- eventhough the recordings of Tyst was made in the winter-spring of '03 it was first released a year later. i don't know why. perhaps i was'nt as sure of the recording's "quality" as with the Small Song EP.

The Tyst Ep is more light-hearted, spasmodic, and i mostly used keyboards, though the guitar as a "baseinstrument" appear in two tracks.

The sound was later (in the summer of 2005,re-made/produced/mixed till autum of 2006, i think) continued in a session with goodieparl van deer 2xsteen (voice and sounds) and the jazzdrummer kresten osgood (voice, beatboxing, and childrens keyboard), but was never released, and will not be, since i'd come to the conclusion that one disc of that music (though it might be considered "darker") should be more than enough.

But what these two lack in commoness of instrumentation, they both share the fact that everything is improvised, a thing i have continued to explore ever since- with one execption, my third Ep (which won't be uploaded here) - that had elements of impro, but most of it was composed and rehearsed (at least once). Now that should be enough of that;
here we go.

Hahn kvlt

Introducing one of the most interesting and promising Danish acts these days - Hahn Kult. A definite pcib-favourite. These two kids from Northern Jylland make their own kind of ambitious experimental black/doom metal and dark atmospheres/bad vibrations. While we wait for their debut album to be released (check myspace for samples), here are their two earlier demo releases:

Pretty much a black-noise-release rather than an actual bm-release. If the 90's was recording on answering-machines, this must be the 0's. Trashy, but it does just about everything a demo should do for an experimental bm-act. Very troo.

. Faces trilogy part II (split) . Bone structure 2007 . cd-r ltd. to 50 . download
Their second release - a semi-demo. Split with wicked messenger and ov korps. Here, HK has moved away from the noisy early recordings, and further towards structure, making their songs seem more 'focused'. They even make use of distinguishable riffs (!).

Caves

The Caves-project is many things; psych, industrial, classical music, drone, metal etc. This is the first proper tape-release.

Noise-rock = noise + a drummer. This is noise-rock. Distorted waves of organ-drones on top of minimalistic drumming. Layer upon layer of trashy tape-recordings. Very crushed and dusty sounds. The inlay says 'play loud'.

Obscurity

What is this? To be honest, I don't know, but it truly is obscure. Supposedly these are recordings made by one Carl Weismann in 1966 and 1952, documenting the incredible musical capacities of sanglærken (the lark - the bird).

The text roughly says, that the whistle of the lark only lasts 0,6 seconds, but when shifted 3 octaves down, it shows to contain 23 changing pitches. Listen for yourself: download

In addition to that, the Danish no-fi-trashcore / germanistic death industrial / shitnoise act Samenrasse just released their second demo. Idealistically as low-quality mp3. This time it's acoustic. Noisejihad

Noisejihad is a booker-team closely connected to Det Jyske Kunstakademi (The Jylland Art Academy) focused on bringing noise-music to Århus (and Ålborg) since 1997.

Marc Gade

A true gemm from the more obscure side of Århusian underground. This is an unreleased private recording of a set by Marc Gade recorded at a music festival in Århus Kunstbygning, 2007. One half hour of hypnotic collage/soundscape and dreamlike sound-images.
