So, after a long delay here is part 3 of the bsbta-documentation. In case you have forgotten what this is about, check parts one, two, and three.

It seems the strength of bsbta is their compilations, reaching some pretty obscure niches of Danish diy music. Thus, this will be the focus of this post, along with a few non-compilation classics.

And dig that cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Prove It All Night,” done in such an effortless, barbital lush you’d swear the air was filled with mescaline.

Ignatz

George Herriman created Ignatz in 1910. It was a vicious mouse in the comic Krazy Kat. Ignatz' favourite occupation was throwing bricks at Krazy Kats head, who thought it was a love declaration from the mouse. The Brussels based artist Bram Devens uses Ignatz as his alter-ego for his own pile of bricks. Acoustic songs wrapped with effects and driven by improvisation and spontaneousness.

Sheldon Siegel

There are young, arrogant artists who think they will conquer the world from their studios in Belgium with their neo-realistic paintings and their hipster indie rock bands and matching uniforms. There are also other kinds of artists who translate the contemporary nihilistic climate to sharp pastiche and absurdist drawings. In that scene old patron saints are violated shamelessly by means of free improv. Gino Coomans (cello, music box), Erik Heestermans (drums, percussion) and Gerard Herman (sax, vocals, tapes) got together in the suburbs of Antwerp. With a shared love for free jazz and an aversion for taboos the trio explores the possibilities of combined action. They avoid the easy trap of maximum instrument volumes, and instead they reticently seek for a universe in which each musician can take their part at any point, or leave it to another. It is because of that particular attitude that Sheldon Siegel comes to amazingly honest instant compositions. Probably one of the most adventurous Belgian improv groups of the new decennium.

For those of you who havent noticed, the new SOL/blodtru-split old europa death chants is out as cd on Paradigms recordings. Heavy, ambitious, and well-produced (Danish) non-sunnish drone-metal with character. Paradigms puts it pretty well:

Vinyl- terror & -horror is more of an artistic project than a band. They are a duo that create installations, some of these are contraptions that play vinyl (see picture above). These vinyls are manipulated in different ways e.g. pieces of assorted vinyl are glued together for the sake of new sound. The result is unsettling loopscapes, churning like carousels of doom. It cracks and pops and squeals, sometimes jarringly so. A distant, rough and raw cousin to the music of Philip Jeck and others.

Fanø Free Folk Festival

Those of you yearning for an alternative to this summer's run of the mill festivals may just have struck gold. The Danish music magazine Geiger presents the first edition of Fanø Free Folk Festival set to take place July 23.-25. in Sønderho, Denmark. The mantra of the bookers is the loose term "Free Folk", and with its first round of confirmations the festival already boasts of an impressively eclectic line-up of both Danish and international artists. Add to that the bucolic surroundings of Fanø and you've got yourself a winning combination. File under: Potentially mind-expanding island getaway.

Årets koncert - for Danes

30. april præsenterer Raum Eins ovenstående uhørt stærke lineup i trøjborg medborgerhus, Århus. Hahn Kult er repetitiv wall of sound-stoner, hvis postrock havde været godt, ville det lyde sådan her. Ice Age er skærende postpunk - hvis joy division havde været fedt, ville de have lydt som ice age. Sexdrome - hvis punk stadig havde været fedt, ville det lyde som sexdrome. Dead Juice aftenens overraskelse.

Delays

It's been some time since the last post – slow times. While you wait for the next chapter in the bsbta-tribute, here's something that might be of interest:

Caves - The dry, heavy shape reaches out (remaster) . self-released 2010 . Cd-r ltd. to ~25
There has been some interest in the first caves-tape, being the occasion for this remastered reissue, presenting the tape as it should have sounded – crushed, very dry and loud bass-heavy drone-rock.

Being very limited, this should go fast. You can order it here (30 kr / 4 e and shipping) or pick it up at the Ark Tarp labelnight/releaseparty this Wednesday. It will be in a large pcib-related distro, which should be very interesting. Admissions are free, so show up.

And another recommendation. Relax with nature recently released three cds by Jonas Frederiksen, leaving behind the Dreamers Cloth-moniker and moving into less dophinish territories. More simple and less ambient, this is an interesting turn within the old aethetical sphere. All three are highly recommended.
