Dream Tennis
HEATSICK - Dream Tennis - CockTail d'Amore 02 - VINYL ONLY * LIMITED TO 250 COPIES by Cocktail d'Amore
VINYL ONLY * LIMITED TO 250 COPIES - release date: 27th of July
CockTail d’Amore, the new Berlin-based label (and long-running monthly party) run by DJ/producers Discodromo and Boris, welcomes Steven Warwick a.k.a. Heatsick to the crew.
Heatsick, a brit from east anglia who now also calls Berlin his home, has built up a name for himself over the last five years, having released a number of limited edition cassette tapes and CD-Rs on labels like Alcoholic Narcolepsy and Not Not Fun. Now CockTail d’Amore gives his the prestige of his very first 12” maxi-single, “Dream Tennis”.
Heatsick’s latest odyssey is based entirely on sounds from a vintage Casiotone keyboard, with the majority of the keys missing, appearing something like a boxer’s smirk after losing a particularly brutal fight. But even with such a punkish approach, Heatsick’s experimental attitude finds him able to coax layers of melodic interplay and jacking rhythms across its ten-and-a-half-minute duration. Never before has his Chicago house influence shined through so clearly, for a new permutation on his style, what might be referred to as “kaleidoscopic music”, a term that Ron Hardy certainly would have appreciated.
Diego Morales of Santiago, Chile, a.k.a. Diegors, provides his own version of the track. Diegors is one of the key players from Matias Aguayo’s Cómeme imprint (under this alias as well as Fredi Michel) and fleshes out the more lo-fi sounds of Heatsick’s original into a panoramic, playful house number, like a spaced-out Mr. Fingers track.
Finally, on the flip side, a certain Norwegian royal figure filters “Dream Tennis” through his own prismatic lenses:
Prins Thomas needs no introduction to those already familiar with the so-called “space disco” sound of the last few years, but for those of you living in a cave (cavemen are the original bears, and after all, hirsute hunks are CockTail’s biggest fanbase), this Oslo dweller is responsible for the respected Full Pupp label and is half the duo Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas whose followers include not just European DJs but American indie rockers. This drastic reworking of “Dream Tennis” is made from 100% newly recorded audio, following the psychedelic sprawl of the original but with more of a live band feel, with dashes of kraut rock and acid.
So please have a taste – we’re confident that a second round of our CockTail will have you feeling the Amore!

Woman Machine
“In my music there is nothing to understand. It is so superficial that I can’t find anything to say,” Cacciapaglia writes in the liner notes, presumably in character as Steel. “My music is ingenuous, there is nothing inside it and it is for this reason, that I like it. It can be listened to while sipping tea, watching television, or while speaking with a friend. Even in a moment when one has nothing to do or is bored, the music can be listened to attentively and millions of little changes can be discovered. It is certainly not the ideal music; it is just one type of music.
“The computer has been indispensable. It is a marvelously poetic instrument that evokes the beauty of the new technologic environment and it gives everything a great artificial taste of grand actuality. This music can be utilized in many ways and listened to by different people, which is what makes me happy because I want it to be accessible to everyone. I would like it to be even more simplistic, in fact, and my aspiration is to uncover it on a weightless day – so weightless, in fact, as to have it fly away like a balloon.”

Poor Man's Expression – Technology, Conceptual Art, Experimental Film
With contributions by Stephanie Taylor, Sebestyén Kodolányi, Sebastian Lütgert, Henrik Olesen, Mathias Poledna, Sean Snyder, Daria Martin, Kirsten Pieroth, Martin Ebner und
Florian Zeyfang. Authors: Sabeth Buchmann, Anselm Franke, Ariane Müller, Branden W. Joseph, Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, Ian White and Axel John Wieder.
Sternberg Press, ISBN 978-1-934105-01-6.
as a point of departure we have assumed that there was once a close relationship between forms that now exist rather separately, namely the realms of visual art, experimental film, literature, poetry, music – and very much the development of technology, too. what is it supposed to mean that 16mm projectors now occupy their luxurious final performance sites at art societies and galleries, while iphone youtube (without open source codecs, to be sure) is the current way to watch a hollis frampton interview.
the other way around, isn’t the gentle entry of the genre of "experimental film" into the realm of "media art" of the 1980s and 1990s itself a transformation analog to general social and medial development brought about by the development of individualization and consumer society? in poor man's expression we have sought, through an advanced setting
("affirmative" neon light surfaces, and the exhibition's paradoxical bipartite spatial principle) to address the surrounding corporate architecture of the sony center as well as the film archive deep underground and the dark space of the avant-garde cinema.

Feeling A Bit Mental 3

"Early on, I learned to disguise my self in words which really were clouds. The gift of perceiving similarities is, in fact, nothing of a weak remnant of the old compulsion to become similar and to behave mimetically. In me, however, this compulsion acted through words. Not those that made me similar to models of good breeding, but those that made me similar to dwelling places, furniture, clothes.
W.B- Berlin Childhood around 1900.
