Oh My Goodness, Oh My Dayum...

I came across this video after the viral stir started.  The story is this. This guy named Daymon Patterson (Daym) has a whole web presence (facebook, twitter, you tube).  His main thing is to review different restaurants and food items (usually from the drivers seat of his SUV) via self video documentary.  The real action here is Daym's personality.  He is one of the blessed few who can connect with people through a camera lens. His energy is contagious.  What's more, his passion for food is contagious!  As I watch Daym eat and more-so, describe his eating experience, I really want to eat what he is eating.  And I want to eat it with him and share the experience.  There is no doubt that he feels the same way about food that I do.  And to watch him express that passion is internet gold.
Daym did a review of a double cheese burger combo meal from 5 guys.  His original review can be seen here.  This review started getting some buzz on the internet since he did it in April.  Well the Gregory Brothers (who are famous for creating catchy songs out of already funny you tube videos with a technology called songify or autotune, some of their past hits include "The Bed Intruder Song", "Double Rainbow Song", and "Winning Song") got a hold of Daym's review, songified it, and created a masterpiece.  So, here it is, enjoy...

Your welcome.

Provo City Center Temple Groundbreaking–”A Blessing and a Resource”

Saturday May 12th I attended the Provo City Center Temple groundbreaking.  It was a picture perfect spring morning in Utah County.  The scene (captured in the video below) was ideal.  Elder Holland presided over the meeting, which he instructed us was classified as an ordinance.  I was touched by several of the points made during the meeting, but one thought in particular stood out to me.  Elder Holland and others repeatedly referred to the new Temple as a blessing in our lives and a resource for us to use.  I thought of how this Temple was a resource to me and my family.  I have other resources that help me in my life.  I have a wife, house, job, a couple of cars, various insurances, several retirement accounts, and many other tangible resources.  However, because of the words about the Temple being a resource, I began to inventory the spiritual resources available to me.  I thought of scriptures, prayer, fasting, tithing, church curriculum, covenants, Priesthood leaders and home teachers, Prophets and Apostles, and even the church building itself also came to mind.  Not only my current church building, but the old 26th ward building on Camelback Ave. in Phoenix.  Also, my childhood home.  All of these places were resources that gave me the opportunity to come closer to God.  Then my thoughts turned to the Arizona Temple and the generations of covenant blessings bestowed upon me and my family there.  And then the true value of this new Temple became clear to me.  I will worship in this temple throughout my life.  I will go there to receive answers to my prayers and to hear the voice of the Lord, to feel the Lords peace in times of trouble and trial, to come closer to God and closer to my family.  I will go there to bless generations now past.  And maybe I will see future generations of my posterity enter into covenants there.  Truly this new Temple is a “blessing and a resource” in my life.

Madison Turns 1

Madie turned 1 year old last week.  She has been a wonderful baby.  She is smart, healthy, funny, and usually very pleasant.  She continues to be a little small, but she walks like a champ and knows several signs and a few words.  She continues to be one of the greatest blessings in our life.  We celebrated (late) with a small family BBQ at the house.

Bailey Plays Soccer

Bailey participated in the Provo City Pre-Kindergarten Soccer League this Spring.  This was her first experience with organized sports.  She exhibited some interesting behavior in the games and practices.  She was not very aggressive Bailey_Soccor_2012_2 (1)and mostly tried to avoid physical contact.  However, the most revealing behavior was her focus during the games.  She would follow the crowd of players around and stay on the periphery of he pack.  Her main focus was not the ball or the goal, she was laser focused on the social ramifications of each interaction on the field.  For instance, if she came in contact with the ball, she would give it a gentile kick and then survey the faces of the other players and crowd in a lightning fast Bailey_Soccor_2012_1analysis of what her “kick” meant in a social sense.  She was WAY more concerned about reading faces than about reading the defense.  If by chance another player allowed her some reciprocal eye contact (most of the other players were watching the ball, full time) she would break down into a silly fit.  As if she recognized some absurdity to the sport and hoping against hope that some teammate or even an opponent would recognize it with with her.
Thanks to the dedicated and patient efforts of Coach Wilber, Bailey did improve throughout the season.  She never scored a goal, or even got off a solid strike on the ball, but she was analyzing social interactions like a seasoned veteran.
