Emily Henry fans, meet your January Andrews.
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor will star as January Andrews in the film adaptation of Henry’s 2020 bestseller Beach Read, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Kuang, who also co-wrote the adaptation of Henry’s People We Meet on Vacation for Netflix, is directing the feature take from her own script for 20th Century Studios.
Neal H. Moritz will produce via his Original Films. Karina Rahardja will exec produce. Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes are overseeing for 20th.
The literary affairs team, led by Clare Reeth, spearheaded efforts to land rights to the book.
Beach Read follows romance writer January Andrews who no longer believes in love, and Augustus Everett, a literary writer enduring severe writer’s block. When the polar opposites find themselves living in neighboring beach houses, they eventually devise a plan to help each other get out of a creative rut. Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. January will take Gus to varied places that scream romance while he takes her to interview surviving members of a cult. They may be on their way to writing their next book, but they may just find love in the process.
When teasing the adaptation, writer-director Kuang told THR, “I really enjoy writing Gus in Beach Read. I have this theory that an Emily Henry hero is a Yulin Kuang heroine. I spent a lot more time like thinking about this woman’s words, and the thing that I am drawn to in her work, they tend to be like the heroes that are more aloof, withdrawn, cold. So I really enjoyed diving in there.”
Kuang, who had said at the time that they were currently casting, also reflected on going from working on People We Meet on Vacation to Henry’s Beach Read. “They’re very different books,” she told THR. “They both have that thread of Emily’s writing that feels like a warm hug. But I think they’re warm hugs after different events. They’re very different books, so I didn’t want to just copy and paste.”
Henry is so well known for her emotionally resonant love stories that the author has been called the queen of rom-coms. Three of her other novels (Book Lovers, Funny Story and Happy Place) are also in development to become films. People We Meet on Vacation, starring Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, began streaming on Netflix in January.
To say the “EmHen” book universe has a devoted following would be an understatement. Each of her five books went on to become best-sellers with the author having sold seven million copies in the United States since 2020, according to The New York Times.

Phoebe Dynevor is set to join Zac Efron in director Jody Hill’s latest feature film, Famous, a provocative Los Angeles-set thriller that explores the dark side of celebrity.
In Famous, Zac Efron (The Iron Claw, The Greatest Showman) will star in dual roles, playing both overzealous fan, Lance Dunkquist, and Hollywood heartthrob, James Jansen. The film is based on the acclaimed novel by bestselling author Blake Crouch and is adapted for the screen by Chad Hodge, who also adapted Crouch’s Wayward Pines trilogy into a series.
Lance Dunkquist has one asset that’s about to change his life – he has the face of a movie star. And not just any movie star – Lance is the spitting image of a Hollywood icon, James Jansen. A24 recently secured the domestic distribution rights to the film, reuniting with Efron after last year’s The Iron Claw, which grossed $45M worldwide and earned Efron some of the best reviews of his career for his emotional turn as wrestler, Kevin Von Erich. WME Independent and CAA Media Finance brokered the sale. Black Bear is handling international sales.
Famous is being produced by Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton for Esmail Corp. and Michael Sagol for Caviar. Executive producers include Nick Krishnamurthy for Esmail Corp and Allison Hironaka for Caviar.
Dynevor rose to fame on Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton, where she played Daphne Basset for two seasons, the first season remaining one of the most viewed on the streamer with 113.3M global views. Dynevor is coming off the best reviews of her career for her role in Netflix’s thriller, Fair Play, which premiered at Sundance 2023 was quickly sold in a highly competitive sale to Netflix. The film earned her a BAFTA nomination in the EE Rising Star category. She can next be seen in Inheritance which is being released in 2025.

Phoebe Dynevor had a little extra sparkle on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet — an engagement ring!
The Bridgerton star, 29, stepped out to the star-studded fashion spectacle on May 6 sporting a diamond ring. According to a report by E! News, Dynevor and fellow actor Cameron Fuller are engaged.
In April 2023, they were photographed holding hands during a PDA-filled stroll in London.

One image showed Fuller, 28 — who is the son of Hollywood producer Brad Fuller — with his arm wrapped around Dynevor.
While the two have kept their relationship pretty private, they did step out together publicly at Wimbledon in July 2023. They were seen laughing and chatting in the stands as they took in the tennis action.
Cameron has appeared on several shows over the years, including Insecure, Into the Dark and The Goldbergs. However, he is most known for his role on The Last Ship. His father Brad has worked on number of notable horror films, among them The Purge films, the A Quiet Place movies and 2010’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.
In addition to his acting career, Cameron runs a popular YouTube channel, Gregg and Cameron, alongside Wizards of Waverly Place alum Gregg Sulkin, where the duo does various challenges, shares vlogs and invites on celebrity guests.
In addition to showing off her new diamond sparkler on the Met Gala carpet, Dynevor celebrated a fashion milestone, becoming the first star to wear a Victoria Beckham look to the annual event. Befitting the night’s theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the custom pink lace gown featured delicate, hand-cut flowers and a long train.

DEADLINE – EXCLUSIVE: In a package that’s sure to heat up the marketplace right before the holiday weekend, sources tell Deadline that Logan Lerman and Phoebe Dynevor are attached to star in the romcom The Threesome for director Chad Hartigan. Ethan Ogilby penned the script, with King Richard production company Star Thrower producing.
Described as a high-concept, character-driven comedy in the vein of Knocked Up, the film explores the aftermath of one impulsive, seemingly innocuous decision. When a young man’s perennial crush leads him into an unexpected threesome, he thinks it’s his ultimate fantasy come true. But when the fantasy ends, all three are left with sobering real-world consequences, forcing them to take responsibility for their actions — even if it means compromising the lives they’ve always envisioned.
The package went out on the marketplace this week and already has drawn interest from a handful of suitors.
Lerman is coming off the Prime Video series Hunters, which is in production on its second season. He also is set to appear in the Sony action pic Bullet Train, opposite Brad Pitt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
Best known for her breakout role in Bridgerton, Dynevor most recently starred in the Sky Cinema pic The Colour Room and in a cameo appearance on Ten Percent.
