Greetings, all.
New community member here, so please forgive me if this is an inappropriate question. I looked through the archives but didn't see anything too similar.
My employer uses 4D on classic Mac OS (i.e. sub OS X) to serve database-to-web functionality. We're using 4D's built-in web server.
For personal web sites, I greatly prefer the Apache/PHP/MySQL solution.
I am trying to convince my employer to switch to MysQL for the back end, and PHP for the front end.
However, there are several issues that stand in the way of that.
1- How do you debug PHP scripts? 4D has a debugger built into the IDE. I haven't found anything like that for PHP. If you recommend something, please make sure it will work on Mac OS X (i.e. BSD Unix).
2- Performance. How well will MySQL and PHP scale? We compile 4D for use on our production servers, and they are very heavily loaded. Will PHP's interpreted nature be a stumbling block? I know this isn't the appropriate forum for MySQL questions, but if anyone knows of any MySQL benchmarks, I would appreciate a pointer.
Thanks for letting me ask. Help me convert my employer! Thanks. --eagle
