Need code and some cool websites
I know some basic html and some perl. My girlfriend and I plan to make a semi large community website running slashcode for news and php code for a forum and content managment, all running off a mysql or postgresSQL database.
The limitations of perl are quite noticable and I want to write the forum code in php or at least use some freely available code to get started. Php is quite popular with lots of code and templates floating around the web.
My question is what websites or books do you all recommend to get started? I need to learn CSS and javascript for some effects as well. I really want to learn and use code freely available. Which sites do you recommend that caters to web developers that has what I am looking for? How did you all get started?
I have written software before so I assume learning php itself wont be too difficult. But programming and creating internet sites are a little different with a special emphasis on gui that I have little experience writting for.
